Interesting how everyone notes his time at the cowboys also as a failure. Has anyone since Sheens had any success with them? They have made a qualifying final and a grand final and got pipped at the post by our Sheens-led Tigers. Hurst/Murray/Millward/Henry have all done slim to bugger all also and that is with the worlds best halfback in the side (not to mention players like Paul Bowman, Josh Hannay, Matt Bowen, LOD, Ty Williams, Matt Sing and Carl Webb in his heyday…) which Sheens didn't have at his disposal. Not to mention the club was run like a brothel in its early years (much like the us,) and Sheens was ultimately the scapegoat for the clubs failings off the field just as much as on it...

A brilliant statement.

A long term coach secures a long term future. We already are showing signs of success, and locking up sheens long term on big money, will SAVE money down the track trying to re-sign quality homemade players, as has been documented, want to stay loyal to Sheens.

Lock him up ala John Cartwright. Let him write his own cheque. This isn't Crazy Brian Smith we are dealing with here. This is the Holden to Wayne Benetts Ford….
 
Sheens can certainly coach.

The best way I can sum up my problems with him are to campare him to Kevin Sheedy in the Boggerball. Both excellent coaches who revolutionised aspects of the code they coached. But both got a little full of themselves in their latter careers in terms of coaching and kept trying to revolutionise the game even when they lack the cattle to do it and it is to the detriment of the side they are coaching whilst failing to recognise the fundamental changes in the way the game is played. It is easy to do this when you have a virtually guaranteed tenure

We had our one run at glory in 2005 and made the most of it but interpretations changed almost immediatley because of the fact that only one or two sides in the comp could ever succeed at that style.

It looks like Sheens turned a corner last year, playing a less imposed, more restrained hand with the side. I really think the Longmuir debarcle and the appointment of Humphries as CEO snapped him out of his run of baffling decisions because his job was over if he didn't succeed in 2010
 
bug i like Ryan and rate him about the same as daniela and his obvious enthusiasim for the game gets him across the line in front of daniela. Mate i just cant understand your hatred of Sheens. if he had not come along when he did we would probably still be the rabble of a club we were when he took over.

CB, I think you were a little hard on Murray! He had them quite strong for a few seasons there just like he did at the Chooks before they shafted him! "Coach Sheens" probably helped by securing the kids in the lower grades ready for Murray to take over. I don't think Murray got the respect he deserved - the man can obviously coach.

Smeg I would put Sheens ahead of Sheedy, as the latter had a team of champions for about 5 seasons. Makes it a lot easier. Sheens took over a basket case of a club and was the third string choice. But he wasn't offended, he won the job, rolled his sleeves up and turned us into a competitive club. Would like another premiership - for him and me!!

He also doesn't give a stuff about Wests. That's why I used to not like him.
But I like him now. If that's what everyone wants.

Completely agree! I mean just look at the players he didn't pick! How can he justify picking blokes like Lawrence and Ayshford ahead of Prichard for all those years! Or Moltzen over Gallant?! Marshall over Hereotukutuku?! Farah over Corby?! Ellis over Davis?!

I would be signing him for 2 years with option for extra year a lot of people gave him a hard time about 2006 to 2009 but the game changed a lot so that mobility was not key again but controlling ruck \wrestle was key And we did not have size or experience to handle that . We lost some big names Prince ,Richards Laffranchi etc and had massive injury issues also Now he has players to do the job and got us to 1 win from a grand final which we would have won if we had made he has earned at least 2 more years No good performances in next 2 years might change things . and before you replace him who do we get Is there any better options on the table to replace him??? I don't think so personally

1 of the biggest disgraces was how Matthew Head was treated…when he signed he hadn't been injured in 12 months n Sheens refuzed 2 start him coz he said he wasn't ready...then when he came back he was MOM...i remember he carved the Rabbatohs up the SCG n Sheens refuzed 2 give him any credit instead critisized 4 his poor defence...Sheens is an arrogant pig n he has his little pets thats a fact...Ryan O'Hara is another player who was shafted
 
i can name quite a few players who have been shafted over the yrs 4 not being 1 of Sheens faves….Head,O'Hara,Gallant n even a player like John Wilson...if Fitzy was a better player than Wilson then i'll eat my hat
