Tim Johannssen #291

Yeah the boys confirmed this on the WTF podcast this week. Sad to see Tim move on. I was a big fan, but it just didn't seem to kick on for him this year. Good luck to him in whatever his future holds. Noah Johannssen is still with the club and was 18th man in KOE Cup last weekend.

I know a player that was up and coming in sheen’s first stint. Left to go back home and sattler rang the local club wanting him back
He told the president that he was over the 24/7 aspect as even on your days off you have to rehab (niggles mainly I believe) so it’s like you’re always working
I believe he could of easily made it but understand that he just wanted to play without any of the pressures
Its my understanding he was always at peace with the decision to not have gone on with it
Haven’t seen him for a few years but I doubt he’s changed his view

Has he retired or taken up a deal elsewhere?

Very disappointing after the progress Tim J showed last year & training fulltime in the pre-season. No idea what has gone on.

Jeez how many gun young middles have departed in the last 6-12 months … Tim J, Chris Faagutu, Jordan Miller, Maddax Fui, Cooper Clarke (and Jekope Sovau has been unsighted since trials), and Herman Tof languishing in Sydney Shield.

It has left us short in the really promising prop stakes, those 18-22yos. Kit L, Vaka Aho, Christian Taupau-Moors, Noah J, none others really stand out.

It begs the question why can’t we identify, develop & progress multiple big, powerful, athletic, impactful props?

Yeah hard to tell why.

The one who I thought was developing nicely was Jordan Miller...but we know how that ended. Kit has made some good strides forward this year as he seemed lost last year.

Having watched some Flegg middles this year, I don't see much coming through there either.

Richo always speaks about developing within and then recruiting the gaps. I think prop is a position we will need to continue being active in the player market (even for Cup/Development deals). As you said, the 4 players above are about it coming through the ranks at the moment.

Name any position we develop well at consistently?

Yeah I thought about that but we’ve had Robbie and which other hooker we’ve developed into consistent good NRL player?
And I know all the names.
I think we’ve produced NRL-calibre hookers through every generation from Farah and De Gois all the way thru to Da Silva. lost our way a bit in the mid 2010s but the production line is well and truly back in full swing now.

Haywood spearheads the next batch.

Well that's silly. Of course you have to rehab when it's your day off. Just cause you're not working doesn't mean your body stops doing its thing.

Yeah it’s probably the closest we have, but consistent? Maybe if young fella with the injury’s that went to dragons had kicked on a bit, but then Simpleton was terrible. If TDS and Haywood kick on, that’d be development.
