Tim Sheens Must be Retained

I've always thought and said that 2010 should be his last year. I was surprised at the extension. I love Sheens, but I do believe he should move on, for everyone's benefit. Players need to have more than one coach over their careers (unless the coach is a freak like Bennett). It helps them develop as players. The players and team and club will all be better for it.
I don't care if we win this year, and look like doing it next, but I want 2011 to be his last with us.

I think knuckle is turning into a rebel….(last week a LO // CSG home semi thread - this week sheens should be retained thread) someone else may be needed to be the face of the WOM's.

I expect a ''too much orange'' thread next week.

lol

Very observant of you Ink !!!! Because I am an optimist, I am having my day in the sun while it lasts !!! When we start to lose a few again, the sky will become very dark and the pessimists will be back with a vengeance !!! Also, I'm a bit of a devil you know rather than the devil you don't sort of person …... if you get the wrong coach, they can wreck the joint in no time at all then it takes years to repair the damage. Remember Laurie Frierer and Steve Ghoshn in the old days and Alan Jones for Balmain ....... those blokes just left a trail of destruction.

Must admit I'm surprised there are actually WT fans who are happy to keep Tim. I didn't think there'd be much support for him at all ....... maybe the ones who like him stay silent for fear of being ridiculed by the ones who are much more outspoken in their opinion.

I suppose the other thing is does Tim want to continue coaching. He's no spring chicken any more and he's achieved just about everything there is to achieve. He must love it to stay on so long but maybe he will decide in his own time that he's had enough.

It scares me though as to who we're going to get as a replacement. I hope its not an NRL washed up has been like Brownie or Stuart. Can't see them giving the job to Folkes so its a lottery as to who the heir apparent will ultimately be.

i doubt it is fear knuckles, more like they know there isn't much point.
as we have seen sheens could win a premiership this year and people would still want him gone next year.
you are not going to get a real quality discussion, but you will get plenty of arguments.
and just a guess, but i think the majority of readers here are sick of the petty arguments on here at times.

Thats true ….. but I don't want someone else signing him up in the meantime.
If he does go to another club, there is always the chance some of the players will follow him.

Do you see the naming of Skando this week as a step forward for the club, team squad….or a step back?

As far as Im concerned two years of making the top 8 out of eight is just not good enough.
*I think that if we do make the 8 this year (likely) he should then have the chance to coach next year. If not, a new coach should come in for next year as theres no point him coaching if not going to be retained.
*If we do make the finals this year he should not have his contract extended until he can show next year that we can consistently make the top 8.

Maybe it wasn't directed at me but I see it as more or the same. By that it is a bad decision made by Sheens regarding team selections.

I have no problems with Sheens with anything apart from team selections but he gets it wrong a lot of times. Now Skando may prove me wrong this week however Morris in the 7 for 2-3 years is a good argument to support my opinion.

I'll never forget two things from Tim.

1\. 2005 Premiership.

2\. JMo at 7 for 2 1/2 years.

As great as 2005 was, the gloss was slowly worn off by reading that name at 7 week after week when it was quite obvious that he was a terrible 7.

In all honesty though, if we win the comp this year, that'll be 2 in not many years. I'd be happy for Sheens to stay till he's 90\. If we win the comp again…

Let's face it, given the choice would anyone here prefer our club to be Saints like (Semis most years but no prize) or us (win 2 out of 11 without semi final footy in-between).

I'll take the comps. Most Saints fans have never known what its like to win one.

I do.

Absolutely. The arguments have been done to death.

They most certainly have been so unless he delivers a premiership this year I wont change my mind…..he has to go.

Yeah ….what happened to the Dynasty....

Grand Final then retire.....

Sheens isn't even trying yet....have you seen who he picks...Farah, Marshall, Lawrence, Heiginghton, Lortay, Ellis, Gibbs, Galloway, Payten, Fulton, Flanagan and SKANDALIS...Throw in some average youngsters who played in a Grand Final last Year and few rejects from other Clubs....

Then has a gameplan to use just 16 players or have interchanges left over....

The guys a visionary.....

I do**

So do I, and I take great pleasure in reminding those cocky beggars what it feels like

To be brutally honest at any other NRL side he would have been punted either last year or the year before.

Not making the 8 at most clubs is not acceptable.

Look he won us 2005 by adapting to the interpretation of the rules better than any other coach. He is a smart coach, I just fell that he has been in the one place too long. He has helped re-build our club from the moment he arrived. I am thankful for what he has done for our club.

Going forward I fell we need new ideas and a new coach. We have talented juniors and a strong NRL squad, we will be a force over the next 5 years.

I for one fell that whilst we will make the finals this year, 2 out of 8 is not acceptable for a coach, especially with the squad he has had over the last 5 years.

Hey Sunshine,

Fell is being pushed off a cliff….

Feel is the regret when you push someone else off the cliff - LOL

I certainly don't see it as a step backward …... I'll put it to you that way. At least we know Skando will play with heart, mind and soul ........... he went Ok last year when he was called up when things were getting desperate. I'll back him to go ok again this time ....... thats if he gets a game.

I'd rather the tried and tested than an unknown factor.
