Tim Simona - Deregistered

What an incredible disappointment.
This guy had talent and speed to burn. What has happened here?
There is a large moral issue to be answered about betting in sport and it is a social evil. I cringe every time I saw someone provide the odds about a game before kick off and during half time. I am not a betting person, but I do not condone it either; horse for course as they say. It has got in too deep into peoples lives.

I think its disgraceful. We wont go anywhere near cigarette companies, but we are happy to promote gambling which to me is a disease and we do it while our young kids are sitting down with their families watching the footy. There is no morals there at all, all about the dollar signs which is disgraceful.

so why is he sack now, I thought u where innocent till proven guilty. yet that knuckle head Lovett gets done and is still here, something stinks in tiger land.

A good step by the NRL would be to get rid of all betting advertising. That's a complete no brainer. It's kind of ironic that a player has an issue with the very product they promote.

I know, I know….there's no issue with things in moderation, but some might say the same about booze, smokes or whatever.

Too much money is tipped into sport from the betting agencies

Look at the EPL , every 2nd team is backed by a betting agency

I think it will be kevy and idris in the centres, with rankin/suli sharing the wing.

You're forgetting someone

Sorry, really really bad wording. Didn't forget nofa. Just expect rankin to start the year on the wing and suli to hopefully take it off him at some point.

Report saying Lovett suspended for opening 2 games of the season. His contract won't be ripped up because first offence and local junior.

I think that is a fair outcome but he should not play first grade this year

Oh well. If he's to be deregistered it's a good outcome as we won't foot a cent for him to play for another club.

Silly boy, last person I'd expect to dab in this…

So without knowing all he facts, you put the boot into the club. It would seem that the NRL has de-registered Simona. So something is not right.

Let's wait and see what the facts are before jumping to judgement.

Tim Simona stood down over betting scandal

By WWOS staff

Wests Tigers back Tim Simona is facing being rubbed out of the game after becoming embroiled in a betting scandal.

The NRL said they had issued Simona with a notice to cancel his registration after he was alleged to have broken rules relating to gambling on the game.

Simona has the right to appeal but has been stood down from training and will not be allowed to play before the matter is finalised.

He will be given a chance to respond to the allegations before a final determination is made.

The NRL will not be commenting further until the matter is resolved.

More to come …

I'm shocked out of all people never would have thought him.

X 2

Stadium's, teams sponsored by gambling agencies who incentivise and promote exotic betting practises to all league followers no matter what age
So where does the NRL moral compass on gambling sit?
Oh, thats right gamble responsibly

Really pissed about this as tim was my favorite players

Top Sydney jockey Mcdonald was recently suspended for a couple of years from riding in races because he had a bet on a horse he was riding in a race.

I have to agree with you BP. for all the fans know Lovett may be a cocaine addict and Simona may have just had a small $30 bet. No justice there.

The NRL are a hypocritical example of the worst kind. They won't ban betting agencies because of cash offshoot and fan interest due to betting.

The NRL will come down big time if these allegations are proven ,this is very serious as this type of behaviour can destroy the sport.. IMO the NRL only have themselves to blame ,once you live on the gambling $$ you open a Pandora's box of human behaviour. No sympathy for the Myth if proven .

Well if we are paying him nrl money he should play first grade, why pay that sort of money to play reggies even though that's where he belongs.

Again I really only have an issue if Simona has bet against the WT's

People since the beginning of time have been getting inside info on sporting events

We should pick our best 17, not our highest paid 17.

The amount of gambling ads and gambling on the NRL is disgraceful really.

People live in fairy land if they think players that are desperate wont get caught up in it.

Very naive to think it only happens in Asia. Australian sport will be riddled with it too if things keep going the way they were going.
