Time to make the magpie more visible.

I think this thread proves its very easy to be critical of " trivial" matters when you have the lion share of logo, name and colors. I know we would see them same argument but with different sides if wests wore a black and white jersey with a small orange V, a magpie logo/mascot and a small tiger on the right arm. If ex-balmain folk can't see the importance of the pie to some people than this argument can never be settled.

Maybe because it's WESTS TIGERS. If it was Balmain Magpies you could have the biggest magpie of all time at the logo. Does it ever occur to you that Balmain had to give up a big part of their identity?

In any case most people really don't object to having a Magpie. It's the total lack of understanding that Balmain hasn't disappeared coming the other way that a lot of people object to.

This debate never ends!!!

Balmain giving up identity??? Lets see…

- tiger mascot retained along with long established tigers branding
- tiger still walking up and down sideline just like balmain tigers - magpie GONE
- black & gold only merchandise (shirts, jackets, scarves, beanies, wristbands, baby gear, kids gear, dreadlock wigs etc) just like balmain tigers
- Leichahardt oval branded as 'spiritual home of the tigers' - just like balmain tigers
- Ellery Hanley inducted into balmain hall of fame at a WT function despite also playing for western suburbs
- balmain nominated as sole feeder side to WT, leading to demise of wests magpies in nsw cup most notably in 2012
- media personalities like blocker roach who only acknowledge history of balmain (89 gf, tigers this , tigers that) on radio and tv
- wests name removed from WT membership logo on cards and letterheads
- magpie on sleeve reduced in size since year 2000 then dropped to cuff where players taper over arms.
- no reference in WT to 'western suburbs' or 'magpies' in any official manner
- No significant difference between balmain merchandising of the past to WT of now (i.e tigers scarf of balmain identical to tigers scarf of WT) yet a magpies scarf does not associate with WT despite being the other 50% of the JV
- inner west (balmain district) and inner city centric operations of WT. not embracing the south west except for 4 often poorly scheduled campbelltown games
- ex balmain player as CEO
- majority of media (tv,radio, print, online) refer to WT as just 'tigers' = taking away wests identity.
- majority of non WT fans perceive WT as an extension of Balmain with little recognition to wests
- WT jersey designs bare little resemblance to any wests inspired designs (look at current series)
- a lot of ignorant WT fans in outrage when a wests magpies WT heritage jersey is revealed with no orange in it - yet balmain bumble jersey is worn by WT and no body including commentators make zero mention of it (pointing out that no one really distinguishes the two tigers brands - WT & Balmain)

I could go on for hours....

A little magpie on the sleeve means a lot to a lot of WT fans. Please leave it alone. Respect it and ask yourself how you would feel if the tables were turned around.

lol. The lack of understanding is strong in this one.

Like I said, this argument can't be won against arrogance. Best of luck.

And vice versa. Not all ex-Balmain fans want the Maggie gone mate…

You know why we can't win a trick. It because it's US vs US vs MANAGEMENT vs THEM vs REFEREE. The way we treat each other (well your guess is as good as mine) our team will suffer because of it, but in reality they are the ones responsible for this stupidity, they can put an end to it.
It's like the old school yard biff over a ball, teacher gets involved takes the ball , no one gets to play. I can see it coming, we will all get what we deserve, club included.

Sorry if anyone has been offended by any of my posts, you can say what you please.

Firstly I really like the points wtfl1981 made about tigers keeping their "brand" alive, and for a lot of us whining Wests originals, it is just a couple of small things gone that way of the joint venture that has us thinking the reduction of some of our little things gone against us over time isn't coincidental and we get upset, which I hope you can all agree as Wests tigers tragics, we have the right to do.

The magpie logo- I would love if it could go back to the original size and spot. Not the end of the world when it doesn't. Just don't remove it. It's a small token, and it is small, that keeps us on the jersey.

The WT logo- the lack of Wests in many logos is obviously about marketing, which our club at the moment seems more focused on then winning. It's just a small thing Wests fans have to deal with unfortunately.

The name: I wonder what things would be like we were the western suburbs tigers. I wonder of we branded for an area instead of the devoid of meaning Wests would campbelltown people feel as out of touch with the club.

Lower grades: juniors is a non issue, keep them separate. Reserves- I'm not convinced strengthening one club and near killing another is the best idea for a joint venture. Not under the current coach who doesn't seem to use reserve grade players when he should. ( a topic in how sheens has formed this club and utilizes it should be a separate topic)

The colours- the orange it disgusting. It's not a Balmain tigers orange. It's too flouro, the flouro membership year was a kick in the teeth to the Wests side. I have said for a long time. Balmain- gold and BLACK, magpies BLACK and white, therefore the majority colour should be black.

The jersey- if my mail is correct and we get a new alternative jumper next year and it isn't a preseason jumper, black is not on that jersey.
I would love to see Wests tigers keep a jersey for a long time, and by all means change the alternative jersey every year. That's my personal opinion. I would love to see a traditional styled footy jersey with enough colours of both sides to keep happy and stick with that jersey.

We don't use the white jersey anyway, it's always the orange one.

I do buy socks, they are really comfortable work socks the Wests Tigers footy socks.

I don't think there are any other issues I can have my opinion on.

Well i hope to live for another 50-60 years and see the Wests in WT live on. Just like a souths or doggies fan gets to see his team he followed from day one live on for the rest of his life.

The purpose of WT was to ensure that the legacy of balmain & western suburbs 'live on'

My younger brother does not remember much about balmain or magpies pre 99 but he appreciates and respects the wests blood that flows through our family

Ofcourse new generations will not know about pre 99 but other clubs get to thrive on history and tradition - doing it for WT does not hurt anyone. We have more combined history then any other club

Task for WT - get the branding right, get it fair and consistent and respect the history and tradition of both 1908 clubs in the process and presentation.

Simple!

How about making the magpie invisible. No balmain or wests heritage jerseys either. when heritage Round comes wear the wests tigers 2000 Jersey. Don't change the logo we are already associated with. Balmain and Wests are gone okay and if after 12 years you still haven't gotten over that then it's your problem not the clubs

Sorry I don't buy that logic.

Black was the majority colour of Western Suburbs
Orange/gold was the majority colour of Balmain

Black was always a secondary colour for Balmain. Besides the orange part provides a marketing point of difference for the club. Personally I like the black jumper but I'd disagree with removing orange as a majority colour.

That mean we should also stop playing at leichhardt oval and campbelltown (directly associated with balmain & wests)?

Tell WT fans to stop wearing any jersey that is pre 2000 or a philips or victa jersey ?

Cut off any ties to wests leagues clubs or balmain leagues clubs because they are associated with balmain & wests

Not link WT functions and events to any balmain or wests past players i.e balmain hall of fame?

Change out name, colours or emblem because that is also associated with wests and balmain?

I am passionate wests tigers fan yet i am questioned for 'not getting over it' - not getting over what? - i support WT 100%, wt member, ashfield and campbelltown member, go to almost all home games at all 3 venues yet i am been told by fellow WT fans to get over it when it comes wanting fair recognition and respect with WT branding and preservation of balmain & western suburbs history or ensuring that WT serves its purpose as a club - maintaining a LEGACY for balmain & wests

Calm down wtfl, Leichhardt Oval and Campbelltown are still strongly Wests Tigers not just Balmain or Wests.
Your comment about fans wearing jerseys is stupid, people can wear whatever they want.
As is the rest of your post, Balmain and Wests cans till have leagues clubs and there can still be functions for the two sides.

Nobody is saying completely ditch our history altogether but when it comes to today's team we are neither Balmain or Wests we are now Wests Tigers and as a team that's all that should matter.
