Trent Merrin - RUMOUR !

If Blair was worth 500g a few years ago than I would imagine Merrin's asking price to be around that mark for the 2016 season and beyond. A player is worth what the market will pay and I am sure their are plenty of clubs that will fork out that sort of money.

I think he is probably the sort of player we need, big engine, strong defensively, work horse and plenty of experience. We just have to be careful we do not direct to much of our cap towards a few players

lol Trent Merrins ego must have seriously shot up after dating Sally if he thinks hes worth 800k

He'd be worth every cent.

Reckon you could get Guerra and FPN for the same price Geo

You have to keep in mind the increase in the salary cap Happy. Players who used to be worth $450-500k are now asking for $700-800k.

Whether Merrin is worth that sort of money is a different thing. I wouldn't mind paying $600k for Merrin as the marquee second rower we're after, especially with Blair's contract expiring next year.

Merrin is one of the top 5 forwards in the comp, maybe even top 3\. If you want the best, you have to pay what they're worth.

**Apparently we are in the running to sign him with Manly and the Roosters.** If the rumour is correct were trying to sign him for next year but it isn't looking likely and we're more confident of getting him for 2016.

Again i stress this is just a rumour from what I think to be a credible source, you guys can take of it what you want. Just passing on what I've heard.

And there's the end of our chances right there in the first sentence! When was the last time we actually snared a marquee player's signature when we were in the running against other clubs? Especially against the Roosters, who always seem to get whomever they want.

Would love him and he deserves the top dollar tbh. However, with woods and Blair I don't think we should be spending so much money on a forward.

I doubt 800k is anywhere close to his demand though.

They get them because they give the player the money they want. Loaded with TPA's the Roosters would only pay part of the full amount.

That's what kills us

Flip, plus the amount of money…something we don't have a lot of....

Yes that too, TT, though we are in the process of freeing up a lot of cap space at present.

The Roosters will somehow find that sort of coin though I'm sure, despite fielding a near SOO/International strength side week after week - it's such a fair comp :unamused:

Why can't, or don't, we do this too, CQ?

Channel 7 news reported earlier that he is likely to stay with the Dragons, who look like they've signed Russel Packer as well as George Rose. They're losing Morris though.

Adam Blair , the Roosters dropped out of the race last

Oh well, there you go - I didn't know that, thanks Happy. Blair has to be the only one we've beaten another team to sign in a long, long while though.

I don't know Flip as we are supposed to be well regarded "sponsor wise". But somehow we don't have the very high profile personnel to attract these neutral Third Party people. Souths have Crowe and now possibly Packer, Roosters have Nick, Broncos have the Thoroughbreds - us? The blue wiggle

Yeah i agree Cqtiger , this is when Triguboff should step in and help with some TPA's , not that he has to of Course but would be awesome .

Hey the Blue Wiggle is the most high profile person in Australia, Cq - just ask the kids

Seriously though, I agree with forevereatiger, old Harry has the ammo to raise our profile, but seems reluctant to do so for some reason.

Would be nice if the new board members could get some of their mates involved.

Aaron Woods sponsored by Cosmopolitan for example…

Flip, didn't Harry just kick in 700k in a new sponsor deal,he may also have something up his sleeve and could be waiting to see how the club goes with the new board and coach etc, before making a further commitment …

He may not want to throw good money after bad... :sign:

Lol Woodsy can be the new centrefold! Does Cosmo still have those?
