Trial Match v Cronulla Sharks *LIVE Thread

Maybe he just wants to give Thompson an extended run at fullback to get an idea of who Tui’s backup will be?

Cleary was the one who sought to get Tui last year so you’d be surprised to see him playing reserves to begin the year.

But Russell said Lolohea is a lock for fullback

Well I was also talking about real games not trials :roll

It will take a miracle for Tui to be named fullback for round one mate. You dont play the first choice spine member in reserve grade to give the back up a run. Believe me, barring injury, Thompson will start round one as our fullback.

For what its worth i think its crazy Tui isn't in the team. Evan if Thompson is now regarded a better fullback, surely we need Lolohea's strike power and goal kicking somehere.

Twal injured?

Im not sure. its just a trial. However Naiqama at centre two weeks in a row makes be nervous 😞

Whoever gets the centre spot will have deserved it and if Kev is best suited to that position and he has been training the best in the pre-season, then I will trust Ivan's judgement - he has been watching and observing him every day so he would know better than anyone.

One thing is for certain, Ivan prefers experience over potential.
His also proving that a competitive team can be bought on a modest budget and development of stars isn't all the rage.
I give it 3 weeks before Brooks is playing ISP alongside gamble and Marshall is in instead.
Liddle, Gamble, Brooks, Tui spine. One things for sure we are shoes in premiers for the state cup league.

I suspect players like Gamble , Lolohea , McQueen , JJF will be playing long mins in NSW Cup so Ivan can see how they go over 80 mins.
And give others like Thompson a good go in the 1sts

Surely if they want Lolohea to play big minutes it makes more sense to do it in first grade?
Hard to imagine Thompson is higher in the pecking order at fullback on talent.

Milne is a funny one.
Named 18th man in firsts but not in centres in reserves…

This is my take on the Milne situation. He and Kev are fighting it out and will get 40 minutes each. Marsters will swicth to left centre at half time with Milne coming on at right. Or, the other possible scenerio is Milne will take MWZ spot on the wing at half time, but Fonua is named to back up on the bench, so im thinking its centre Milne is fighting for.

Anyone who thinks Lolohea being named in reserve grade isnt a sign he wont start round one is off their head. You do not play a member of the spine in reserve grade when you are trying to bring a new spine together amd create combinations. Simply put, Lolo has dropped in the pecking order at this stage. Hopefully he can fight his way in.

Agree totally.

But maybe IC still sees him as the main fullback but just needs time in reserve grade 1st to lift his fitness for NRL.

Than when the time comes Tui to 1st grade fullback Thompson to wing MWZ to reserve grade.

I do believe Thompson at least deserves wing and will fill admirably for Tui if this is the case.

It's how I see it anyway as i believe Tui has the talent

I agree on both counts, he's unlikely to be in firsts round 1 and it's going to be to our detriment because we need his strike power and goal kicking. Thompson, Reynolds, Brooks, McIlwrick is a dire spine to be running out against Tedesco, Keary, Cronk, Friend…

I dont think Lolo makes that much diff tbh

Ivan has sent out a very clear message …. "you must earn your spot"

I'm all for it, because it should raise the intensity and he will see who desires a position most. Welcome to 1st Grade under Ivan.

Well he's one of those players that always seems to put himself in a position to score points and we don't have many of those, so leaving one of the few we do have out seems pretty unhelpful to me…

Thompson
Nofo
Marsters
Kev
MZW
Lolo
Brooks
ET
Lawrence
McQueen
Matulino
Reynolds
Packer

Aloia
Eisenhuth
Twal
Gamble

I like Gamble

As far as a goal kicker in the name on side, doesn’t Brooks, & Lawrence kick for us at times. If Gamble gets a start some where he was a goal kicker for Redcliffe last season.
