TV series that you couldn't miss...(not Netflix)

Shintaro LT, one of my all time faves.
Plus Minder and many others. Good to remember a lot of those old shows, many of which I watched on the old black and white telly.
With most of the family gathered around.
We were one of the first homes in our street to own a colour TV. Before the actual broadcast on Caulfield Cup Day they broadcast the Test Pattern and all the neighbours came over to sit and watch it for hours! Pre COVID of course.

Going a little back in time here, folks, before Netflix was a thing...

Hard for me to go past The Wonder Years.
"The greatest Boomer nostalgia project of them all, before Boomer nostalgia threatened to overwhelm the entire world."
and "Hill St Blues" - the cop show that started it all, IMHO.

But the least could go on and on, for sure!
Omg. I was in a shop today and Joe Cocker's cover of With a little help... Was playing and I thought of the Wonder Years! 🤣

Really liked that show. It was strangely very 'nice' but great... Hard to do. Great cover too - better than the original.

My parents were avid Hill Street Blues watchers. Still remember the theme song and "stay safe out there" every episode start.

Wow... Trying to think now!

Going back I remember Tour of Duty being so different and engrossing. Probably the first real drama I ever liked. Amazing soundtrack too - my parents would still have the LP.

Okay, pre Netflix I'd have to say The Simpsons.

The Wonder Years was a mad show.
Interesting thread.
The streaming service has essentially killed the anticipation of watching a show each week and everyone talking about it, looking forward to what happens in the next episode the following week.

I find myself not even bothering with new shows and waiting until they're complete to just watch them all at once.

Back in the days though....
As @Moh said, Prisonbreak was great.
Re watched it when they did a new season for Netflix and it's aged well, good nostalgia for me.

SBS Monday nights had a wild line up including a cracker show, HBO's Oz. That show was dark.

Also liked shows like Law and Order SVU, Cold Case and CSI.

Going back even further, Degassi the next Generation, original Heartbreak High and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
It's a shame the old "water cooler talk" is long gone. Who even has water coolers any more either?!

But I've often spoken about how we miss that connection you made with people who are into the same show.

Seriously, you could talk about watching something and someone you never thought you'd have anything to talk about outside of work might hear and join in. It was cool...

Not pre Netflix, but FWIW - best ever imo

Breaking Bad

Game of Thrones (not the last season)

Dexter (see GOT. The end of the penultimate season was the perfect ending. Last season was horrible - aka a "Wests Tigers season" 😜)

Ozark

Mad Men for a few seasons

* I have to say when I was a kid I used to really like a tv show that - given certain interpretations - had a name you could NEVER call it today...

BJ and the Bear! 🤣

I must admit, before Daryl killed it, Hey Hey It's Saturday was as good (and clever) show as you could watch...

Acts like the Music Men and the bobsled team were incredibly funny!! (YouTube won't allow me to post clips) but here it is to cut and paste..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm9RpSsUZaY
