Uate?

Uate maybe replacing Rankin ??

I'd rather scout elsewhere.

Someone has to replace Rankin, we are deadest kidding ourselves about making the 8 next year with Rankin as our winger, hell we are probably kidding if we think we can do it this year with him on the wing. :crazy

Uate is off to Manly. Looks like a player swap situation with Buhrer going Newcastle
From NRL.com " Newcastle Knights winger Akuila Uate has left the club to join the Manly Sea Eagles, who have released back-rower Jamie Buhrer to join Newcastle.

Manly fans spewing on other forums. Clearly Buhrer was a fan favourite at Manly.I think most of our fans would have been unhappy if we'd signed Uate

Buhrer is solid. I still cannot fathom that he played origin, yet another beneficiary of the Fulton effect. He'll do well for Newcastle though, 120 odd games, solid player and can help lead their young blokes around the park.

Uate is a player down on confidence and form playing for a team that have been cellar dwellers for a while now. May fare a little better at Manly, but they're never really short for outside backs (especially wingers,) so I'd love to know where he'll play other than NSW Cup.

Trading one expensive loser for another. Who wins depends on how much each is paying.

The last 6 weeks of the year Buhrer was in outstanding form, easily Manly's best forward as Jake Trbojevic was playing injured or off his game, by no means a loser of a signing, he would walk in to our backrow.

Why did they let him go…?

Beats me mate, he was in good form, maybe he was on a back loaded deal or something.

Yeah I agree with 851, he was in very good form. That's partly why Manly fans are up in arms over this trade.

I can only speculate over why they let him go, but that's never stopped me before:
- He got a good offer from Newcastle and they didn't want to stand in his way.
- His contract negotiations in 2014 helped push Glenn Stewart out the door and there are still Manly officials and power brokers that are angry over that (and they are petty and vengeful).
- Barrett is a moron.

They must have a 2nd row signing in the pipeline because they look really thin there with Buhrer gone…or maybe they are signing Sirro and want to slot him straight into first grade.

With Manly signing Uate does this mean that Jorge Taufua is leaving? He might be coming our way.

He wouldn't be the worst of signings. He's got an error in him but he also has plenty of power and can generate some good metres out of his own end and knows his way to the try line. A genuine winger would be a better option than Rankin or Hunt.

2\. Nofo
3\. Simona
4\. Idris
5\. Taufua

…looks like a decent back line with plenty of power and tackle breaking ability.

Yeah I agree, I hope we do sign him.

All I ask of our club is if we look at buying /recruiting a new player from elsewhere to replace one of our current players is that they are definitely an upgrade from who we are replacing

Replacing one fringe player for another fringe player hoping they will grow another leg while playing here is driving me nuts

If they can't fire at a stronger club they sure as hell won't fire here

Buhrer would be getting paid triple what he is worth. Can't see him doing too much at Newcastle TBH. Will be playing in a pretty weak forward pack.

I'd definitely take Taufua if the money was right. Fit and healthy, he's a great winger.

Yep. I'd take Taufua in a heartbeat. He is both a punishing and skillful winger. Manly would be bonkers to let him go.

Now that we have secured Idris, if by some miracle got Taufua I'd be chuffed to say say we now have the missing backline pieces in two excellent signings.
