Uate?

Kev is a starting centre all day. It's not a stacked position around the league. He's an average NRL centre that offers more in attack but less defensively than plenty of his peers.

He's no better or worse than Takarangi or Whare. He's better than Aubusson and had a better year than Copley. He's miles ahead of John Olive and just as good as Rona, who is surrounded by stars. Souths would love to have him. He's not as fat as Joey Luliea and handles pressure better than Croker.

He's not an Aitken or Morris, most aren't, yet that's what people seem to be expecting.

Wow.

Just, wow.

Speechless.

I'd rather us go after Kerrod Holland from the Bulldogs.
Good centre and a great goalkicker too.

x2

He is also not going to play NRL at the dogs unless they have injuries so we might be able to get him released.

Interesting,

According to Rugby League week we are shopping around Naiqama and Rankin….

_Knights desperate to off-load Uate to Tigers\

THE EMBATTLED Newcastle Knights are looking to shed some dead weight from their salary cap in 2017 with former Kangaroos winger Akuila Uate at the top of the list.\
\
Uate, who is currently playing for the Knights’ NSW Cup team, is one of the competition’s highest paid wingers and is set to earn close to $500,000 next season.\
\
Knights coach Nathan Brown is so desperate to get Uate off the club’s books next season that the club would be willing to subsidise a portion of his salary.\
\
At this stage, the Tigers, who will lose flyer Josh Addo-Carr to the Storm next season, remain the only club who have expressed interest in the 28-year-old. But his monster salary and inconsistent form over the past couple seasons has created some hesitation amongst the Tigers front office.\
\
**Tigers backs Kevin Naiqama and Jordan Rankin have struggled particularly on the defensive end this season and the duo are reportedly being shopped around to other clubs.**\
\
The Tigers’ interest in Uate is genuine but the Knights will likely need to take on more of his salary than was initially discussed.\
\
It has been quite a fall from grace for the Fijian-born wingers who just four years ago represented both the Kangaroos and NSW._

They are 3 centres in the lower grades that are better than Holland. Players just need to be given the opportunity to develop.

Holland fills the hole we have in goal kicking as well. There may be better centres around but you have to look at the squad overall.

Also the Knights can't be too desperate to offload him if they don't want to stump up much cash to get rid of him

Well it would hardly help their negotiating position if they came out and said they were desperate to get rid of him. If we are the only club interested then we should test the absolute limits of their desire to get rid of him and low-ball them hard. That's if we actually are interested…I hope we aren't.

He's probably a good chance of playing first grade at the Bulldogs next year given that Rona looks to be signing with the Western Force. Unless Brad Abbey comes through Holland will be in the backline alongside the Morris twins, Hoppa and Perrett.

I would rather shift Kev to wing and look for a decent centre. Just don't want an unmotivated uate on the books.

A change will do him good
He is a quality player who is in a slump ..
And he is not lazy like T rex .
Im sure you will see better performances by Uate at his new club.

@MacDougall said:
Agreed. I would back Uate in.

He hasn't lost his speed and isn't too old yet. Still other signatures are need before his.
Unless is a nominal fee , same with T-Rex. If it's a for minimum wage at another clubs expense , Why not.

There is a lot of upside to Uate ..for the right money would give it s go

He would have to be cheap, mind you playing out wide for us all you have to do is be able to catch, the inside men create plenty of chances

Uate would be a decent bit of business for us at the right price.
We have a halfback playing wing, a winger who could of been here next season but will play elsewhere and I really struggle to see anyone in the lower grades to make a statement for this position.

Uate is big, strong, fast, good finisher, experienced. Defensively he may have his flaws however he would be no worse than Nofo. I would think this is a really good signing and the chance for Uate to re-establish his career outside of Newcastle.
In saying that we really need to get 2 get a centre who knows how to defend and a edge backrower as I am yet to be convinced about Josh Aloiai (low mintues, no line breaks - actually haven't seen him run decent line all year).

He is past his prime and does not seem interested. People bag Nofa, but Uate is just as bad under the high ball. We need a winger, but he is not the answer
