It's between us and the eels. Id be happy if he joined us but I won't be upset if he doesn't.

@happy_tiger Got a feeling there's something happening behind the scenes causing it.
You don't go from being above average to below ordinary without some reason.
If it's not physical then something else.
Both him and his brother are clean cut family guys ... maybe the goings on over the off season didn't sit well?

@WT2K Is this just your thoughts or do you have connections ?

Just from what I've read from various NRL jurnos

The last game he was playing at fullback he seemed to either running on the wrong side of the ruck in attack or the dummy half had no idea what play they were on. I found it funny watching him stranded nearly every time.

From the mole article today...

THE STORY BEHIND DWZ EXIT

So what was behind Dallin Watene-Zelezniak’s dramatic decision to walk away from Penrith last week?

Watene-Zelezniak was unhappy at losing the fullback spot at the Panthers, but there is more to it than that.

Players and coaching staff tell me they have noticed a change in the talented utility back this year in the wake of his being named captain of the Kiwi team that toured Britain last year.

They described Watene-Zelezniak as being aloof and difficult to get along with, and he has been unhappy and restless.

Several clubs are keen on him, with a player swap on the cards.

Let’s just put a hypothetical up there...

2018 you are bought into your team, you are enjoying your team mates and you are committed to the team. You represent your country and realise just how much of a role model you are... straight laced you are loving your footy.

2019 comes along, you realise the vast majority of your team each have sex tapes being shared around. You sit and listen to the coach say “play for the man next to you”. You hear the club talk about pride in the jersey. You consistently want to wash your hands after shaking hands with team mates with families yet continually behave like scum. People start to wonder why you are aloof.

If the above happened would you say the player has lost his talent or has he has lost respect for his team mates and for his club?

As I have stated he has a bung knee ....already having regenerational knee treatment

He is young & is having his first form dip.

So is everyone else in the side and the Panthers have a bloody talented squad, which most here were wanting us to target last year.

I would take him in an instant. Swap him for ET & Packer. Take a prop off their hands and we will be well infront on the trade.

DWZ has speed, skill & can defend better than anyone else in our backline.

ET is a great workhorse but he gets found out and his discipline doesn’t meet Madge standards

Packer is solid but isn’t reliable. He doesn’t bend the line & his lateral movement and puff factor ... well we aren’t missing him atm says alot for his salary.

Crux here is we have $$$$ tied into players in reggies not taking the step up and forcing their way back in the side = look for ways to upgrade the squad via trades.

I must admit i am always very wary of trying to sign players who have known medical problems especially ones who would be on huge dollars

Adding to that, the coach who had your team purring at 4th spot has been sent to centrelink and the CEO hires his mate who is also the halfback's dad. Your team has a horror start to the year and you're hovering around 15th or 16th spot 11 rounds in. No wonder he's disenfranchised.

@Cultured_Bogan Do not forget the spy the coach has in the playing ranks that reports back every dinner time on who said what and about who... the player group will never be the same at the Panthers due to this fact alone ..

Probably find that 11 rounds in the spy agrees totally with the entire sides complaints

It's interesting that when it's a bloke we want to sign playing for a coach we don't like this is all totally understandable. If it was a Tigers player wanting out we'd all be calling him soft, saying if he was a professional he'd do the job he's being paid for and generally bagging him out left right and centre.

I mean, I hate Mitchell Moses as much as the next Tigers fan but isn't this more or less exactly what he did? The team had just changed coaches, the new guy took a contract offer off the table and Moses spat the dummy and demanded a release. What's different to DWZ?

@2041
But Moses dogged it on the field & then played the mental health card to try & influence his release. He did not act with any honour.
