We just can't mentally handle being favourites

We just can't handle it as soon as people start picking us winning the comp and top 4, we fold, that was my worry going into the season, where going to have to be playing crap another few more weeks til the media start to say where no chance before we play good again. this is another danger game as we will be odds on again.

We lost the first game of the season, and you're already deathriding them.

You're either a clairvoyant or have little to no faith in the team you support.

I think having 2 good years of success in 21 years has something to do with it, I actually believed we were top 4 until I seen that game last night we can not handle hype

and hey my negative thoughts the players might read this. because they cant handle positive thoughts maybe its me that fires them up!!!

Hahaha, good ol' Golden, I remember the live match threads a couple of seasons back, your comments were more entertaining than the match, good to see you haven't lost it

I said we cant handle mentally being favourites not that we will finish last.. I think where looking at fighting for the 8 based on last night. usually we start the season off great, but most times we are picked for the bottom 4… you see why?? because we cant handle the hype

everytime I do think positive this club lets me down, Im picking them again this week to beat the warriors (oh no thas the kiss of death!!!!)

I wrote us off after the souths game last year.. we need to be flogged by 50 points it seems to fire up

I agree with you golden. The favorite tag has never sat well with us and this year i think there is a great deal of expectation on the team not only from WT fans but general rugby league supporters and the players themselves. Can they handle it?

i think we need to stop reading the newspapers . If what you say Golden is right we should not buy all the big names and hope the players we have can get the job done .To win the premiership we need to be a favourite top 4-5 teams . We aren't going to do an 2005 every year . The real Tigers did not show up last night tried to win without doing hard stuff Too much side to side 2006 -2009 side last night . Grind Grind Grind wins games

I'm inclined to agree with this statement ! We are not good with pressure, but I'm sure this loss against the Bulldogs will shock the team into a bit of reality, and hopefully they can put all the hype and huge expectations on the backburner, and get on with what they are good at - playing some great footy :sign:

I wouldn't be suprised if it takes a few more losses. You could really tell yesterday the dogs wanted it more, it was noticeable.

i don't mean to downplay this, but it doesn't without a decent kicking game.
we have to get better at the basic fundamentals of the game.
especially at the start of the season.
i will always be reserved in our chances until we show more consistency in this area.

but as far as being able to mentally handle being favorites.pfft :unamused:

I know what you mean Golden - there is truth in what you say.

i'm sorry Icon we can't have both . You can't expect not to be favourites in say 60-70% of games and expect to win games every week or premiership

Our form was far better in the Roosters trial with the favorites tag. I just put this down to a bad start. We will get better.

Thats true but a good grinding team has a good kicking game I'm not saying to lose the pizzazz but we still take lots of bad options . Perfect example approximately 6 minutes to go last tackle we decide to run it and you could see dogs had worked out we were going to run it . what happens turnover and dogs score Why not kick deep into corner big defensive set and try and get ball in better field position . we still had at least 2 more sets of 6 left .

"You can't expect not to be favourites in say 60-70% of games"
Does this mean i can expect to be favourite in 60-70% of matches? and then win every week / Premiership?

Firstly i can't expect to win every week regardless of being fav or non fav. But if you were fav 60-70% of the time it would not be out of left field to say you could win the premiership.

Anyway - all Golden is saying is that we are not good with a favourites tag…, and i agree. You're reading too much into it.
