It's the club's image that is to blame for recruitment, nothing else. Look at how it all began.
We get rid of Sheens - who's legacy is still strong in the current game - and go through a merry-go-round of coaches, then with the constant media circus(plus ineptitude from club management) this was probably the final straw for certain players.
We need to be targeting players who not only wish to build their profile but also want to take "us" out of this hole or whatever it is, and make us competitive again.
But it's hard when we seem to be the least desirable club.

Like someone else said, we are the Susan Boyle of the NRL and everyone only wants to be with the Margot Robbies etc.,

All valid points.

I think Madge is a coach who will get the very best from the Garners and Aloais of the world, his work ethic will max out those guys who want a chance and want to work.

But elite blokes who have already won comps and played Origin are unlikely to want to sign up to be flogged by Madge.

Madge is known for having one way only...his way.

Bennet and Robinson are known for adjusting to each player's personality.

Robinson’s not known for that at all ! Go ask Lattrell. He’s exactly like Madge . He’s just been given so much autonomy over the team now , and won a couple of premierships that, it’s blinded . One thing he does have , is , despite his training style , the players universally like him , whereas madge tends to be disliked by the soft , Prima donnas . Ie . He doesn’t stroke thier ego for better or worse .

Well matterson did not get along with both of them.

Big fat loser. Good riddance. Went to play for a good losing team!

I think that points to Matterson rubbish character than anything else. I don’t see it getting any better back at Parra either. Apparently Arthur is more of the same

This thread is silly.

We don't need any "win". Madge can still build a good team the old-fashioned way, with smart buys, juniors and upskilling the blokes we have.

Not against signing big-name players but it's not the be-all of NRL.

Also, being linked with players is meaningless. You don't know how hard Tigers chased any of the named players, and arguably the list of "players Tigers looked at" is far far larger, because Tigers would be doing their due diligence on any potential player movement in the market. That's the silly part, to be concerned about being linked with Moyland or Tetevano or something as unlikely, left-field and totally speculative as Milford.

As much as many do not want to admit it ..there is a perception problem about our club this is a concern .
The problem with your analogy is it takes years to build a successful footy team around prospective young talent and plodders then keeping them when they have matured into NRL level players .
Our club is on the nose with the general playing fraternity of the NRL and the club needs to adress this problem immediately, if the CEO is not capable in his due diligence in this matter he needs to be replaced with someone that can !
I would never think that players being linked with our club is meaningless but quite the opposite in fact ! the more that are linked the better Imo... whether they sign or not is immaterial , it keeps the club in the headlines and one day a big fish will be caught.
Signing around 3 big fish is the be-all as it transcends into a winning culture and hopefully major success on the paddock ! Something that is very difficult with young prospects and plodders ...

Even Roosters players have said Robinson treated LM 'differently' on many occasions. Robinson knows how to adjust to different personalities very well.

Haha that would help 🙂

All jokes aside, I honestly feel like we just need one big win.

Even someone like JAC could do it...current Kangaroo, high profile. If he came and got a ton of good media, others would likely follow.

We just need to remove that perception of being a club you only join if you don't have much choice.

I am old enough to remember when the Rorters were known as transit lounge, journeymen only, no culture etc etc.

So, it can change.

Land LM and JAC and it will change overnight.

If we end up with AJ and another cast off.....not so much.

Haha 🙂

MCK is a classic case of who we currently are ...unwanted at two clubs (both made the finals), wanted a chance, not really a starter, plays good once a month. Gets contract extension...

Fringe, inconsistent, first grader....gets a key role with us.

But wait our club is not on the nose the list of top quality players wanting to join our club Is long ! The list of elite players approached by the club is also long opps no thanks they say ! you do not have to be a player or work with the NRL to realise that there is a issue regarding our club and the signing of class players !

To be clear, I don't mind MCK.

Every club needs 2-3 Chee Kam and Cory Thompson types...

Our big issue is we have a dozen of them.

There really hasn’t been any top quality players leave or join any Club. Good players maybe but top quality not so much.. Dogs picking up Stimson is akin to us picking up Leilua ...as an example

That list of elite players haven’t come here sure but they haven’t gone anywhere else either

That’s your opinion.. is that official ..isn’t he at the Titans next year...?

So 1 player out of how many big list

Yeah, but we are pretty much the only club with a ton of cap room.

If most clubs had 1.7 mill (2020) and well over 2 million (2021) they'd have landed a couple. Remember we CAN sign for 2021 now....Arrow, LM, Fifita, JAC, multiple others also all were available for 2021.

That is the real issue at the moment...we actually have the money, but no one appears to be coming.

In modern pro sports worldwide, cap space is like gold. Even the worst of teams can rebuild if they have it. Essentially that is the whole point of a salary cap system.

So, this is not the norm. We have tons of room for 2020 and a ton more for 2021...yet not a single marquee signing to date.

What about that Matterson bloke to the Eels

Arrow is mid tier at best.

If you look at the article where they rank spines none of em are truly elite.

Roosters were #1 which makes sense but their halfback is Flanagan, who isn't really tested.

Even storm... Papz isn't an elite fullback yet and Jahrome Hughes is average to me. B Smith looks the goods but is a benchie.
