Good to see that someone has them. Lidcombe oval, the bike track and the very tall goal posts, great memories.View attachment 26131
Hidden in a secret place.
Focused on the big issues…Is this in relation to a name change at the HBG?
I was there …. memorable 👍Les Chanticleers Tour 1968 Series - Game 5 - Western Suburbs Magpies 12 lost to France 13 - RLP
Match info page for the Western Suburbs Magpies vs. France game in Game 5 of the 1968 Les Chanticleers Tour. won 13 to 12 at Lidcombe Oval.www.rugbyleagueproject.org
Who else happened to be at this game - Lidcombe Oval 1968. Place was packed, although official crowd was only 8000 - someone was telling fibs - i remember sitting on the bike track for this one. Wests led 12-5 with a few minutes to go but a couple of dubious penalties and 2 late tries got France home 13 - 12. Mick Alchin and the French winger got sent off. The late great French dual international Jean Capdouze was a standout.

Hidden in a secret place.
Might be wrong … but think that may have been Tony Ford.I believe the goalposts were 73 foot tall and Wests offered a cash prize if a goalkicker could get the ball above the posts. I was told that Barry Glasgow did it at training one night but I could be wrong on that.
You might be right. I started watching Tony in 3rd grade at Pratten Park. He was a brilliant ball runner who could have been anything. He had an unusual running style however that left him susceptible to coat hanger tackles and he copped quite a few. I think that dented his confidence and he never lived up to his early promise. I met him a few times after he retired because his wife worked with mine. He was a lovely unassuming and modest bloke.
Tony Ford had a huge boot on him so it's possible.Might be wrong … but think that may have been Tony Ford.

Ha Ha, no mate, not my secret place just a secret place.Ron you sneaky devil.
At least your kids can’t argue about who missed a goal or not.
You should cut them up into 20c pieces and flog them on eBay as “Get yourself a piece of great Magpie Lidcombe Oval history; the (former) tallest goal posts in the southern hemisphere. $50 a pop and $100 for the Allan Fallah signed keyring version.
I was at the first game of the 1974 season when Wests best Balmain 62 - 5. Dorahy had just arrived at Wests with a big fanfare but started the year in reserves. Ford played firsts and scored 23 points. Dorahy had a shocker. I said to my mate “Dorahy won’t be in first grade any time soon”.Tony Ford had a huge boot on him so it's possible.
He was my hero and I was upset when a young upstart called John Dorahy took his place.
Sometimes I can be wrong.
