any reason why all the fringe players ended up in the BRET side of the merger. Im originally from the tigers side of the fence, so im ok with this, but had it went the other way and the maggies had all the reserves I might be disapointed, how do the old magpies feel about that…..
I m sure these guys go well and will do the Black and whites proud, but was wondering if any magpies fans had an issue with a break up.
Maybe next year they will reverse it??
Of course Maggies fans are disappointed, every fan wants their team to be competetive but Sheens doesnt coach Maggies or Bret, he is the coach of the Wests Tigers and has decided that this is what is best for his team.
The difference is if the shoe was the other foot BRET wouldnt be able to field a team in State Cup or Jim Beam without access to NRL contracted players so then he would only have one open age team to develop players in.
This has happened before and the maggies got touched up week after week but still managed to develop NRL standard players eg Lawrence, Dwyer,Gallant,Mataka etc.
I have no doubt before seasons end Sheens will hook one or two more from the Maggies ranks and give them their shot at the big time as well.
It may not be ideal for the fans who solely follow the Pies but as co-owners of the Wests franchise the Magpies are committed to maintaining a direct pathway to the NRL for its junior players.
