Wests Tigers announce leadership group for 2022

I agree it’s definitely not a good example for kids and I don’t want my kids to be influenced by someone else’s actions like that. But as a grown adult amongst their peers they should be able to make their own decisions and if thats having a good time with substances and no one is driving or acting aggressively towards other people then that is their decision. Just like Alcohol. I don’t think it matters too much amongst footy players. Violence in any way shape or form is much more detrimental to society I believe
Yeh good points.
You've probably heard something like in sport you should refrain from talking about 'religion, politics and sexual agenda. Soon drugs will be a household name that you could throw in that list.
Just yesterday a friend of mine said he was driving in a town near Sydney that had 'girls of the night' walking the street in broad daylight, people openly using drugs or dealing.
If we as a society don't try and deal with it by not putting our heads in the sand then I fear for my grand children.
Get on YouTube and Google the street life of Philadelphia, Kensington.
It's frightening!
They say Australia is about 10 years behind the US logistically, is this how we want to end up????

There really is no obvious choice and though he'll make a great future captain Adam Doueihi will miss some significant game time, plus there's an uncertainty of whether he'll regain his previous form.
Also, honestly feel it's much too soon for him to be handed the captaincy and while there's some surprise with a couple named, I feel it makes a lot of sense for the club to name a leadership group.
Talking about AD as a captain and a leader by Forum members amazes me. Yes he tries hard, is likeable etc, but has not been outstanding at 5/8,centre or FB . If Hastings or Peachy perform to expectations, AD as much as most like him , may find it difficult to even make the top side.

I hope we never end up like the states but there are different levels of drug abuse I believe and everyone has had different experiences with them good or bad. I would like a world where they don’t exist but that’s not the case. I think education is the best way to deal with it. Just going back to your original post about it, everyone makes mistakes and being a drug user whether recreational or full blown abuse doesn’t make you a bad person

I disagree. Woods in his last year acted like an absolute tosser and gave the impression he did not give a stuff about the club. Tamou....for all his on-field faults, never spoke badly about the club (in no way am I saying Tamou is a good captain either).

Ideally we have a captain who performs on and off the park, someone who leads by example in everything he does. We just haven't had that for a very very long time. Tamou, Mbye, Woods etc it's an interesting list. None of which have been the leader that drives inspiration or leads from the front in what they do on/off the park. Woods was the only one that you could say did something on the park however.

Tamou hasn't lead on the park and of late his responses to the media haven't been great either.

Woods yeah he was a jerk with how he handled things off the park, if he stayed he would probably still be captain today. Regardless of his off field approach, his performances on the park are miles ahead of Tamou's, could also argue he was our best forward at the time as well.

Of course, I dabbled as an 18yr old but I was lucky I didn't continue. There are a lot of people on 'streets' who intended just to 'dabble' and ended up like the women bent over spewing or hitting up who is or was someones daughter or son.
Your absolutely right, education is paramount and one way to educate is to show and lead by example.
I don't want to start quoting statistics but it is a fact that a person is more likely to grow up a 'model citizen' if when growing up they had good role models and a decent peer group.
Some kids don't have that luxury so they watch read and listen to all types of media, sport etc.
We as a society put sporting identities on a pedestal, that's a reason why the NRL put a huge emphasis on community involvement.
To see a player visit a school one minute then get suspended for drug abuse must be confusing to a child.
The point I'm making is a leader should in everyway possible, have integrity on and off the field.
I should get back on topic 🌝
Hastings to Captain!

I think a lot of people are way over analysing this. We don't have a standout performer who's guaranteed to be playing every week. A couple of new faces in leadership group is good - last year we had zero leadership so keeping what we had would be insane.
Obviously the club is demoting Tamou to an extent but haven't just dropped him as captain entirely which would have been embarrassing for him and us. Adding the pressure of captaincy to Brooks is probably unnecessary given how fragile he can already be. Doueihi will miss the first 1-2 months of the season. Tamou underperforming on field so may play limited mins. Peachey is experienced and likely to play 80 mins. Ken, who knows why he's there, but he's a better option than Nof so that's something.
Will the club rotate captains on a weekly basis all season? No. Will we have a few captains throughout the season? Probably.

Was tongue in cheek. I do hope it boosts his profile so that some other team thinks he is quality and takes him off our hands. 😊
it also means if we are playing well Madge doesn't have to select Douhie if the halves are firing. That would look weird your captain elect back from injury and can't get a run
5 it is

Woods was a good leader in many ways earlier in his career, but he lost part of that when he stopped running into the defensive line with a little footwork and instead strolled in, turned his back and 'danced' with the opposition. Giving them time to set and then dominate the next couple of plays.

Lost me totally when reported that he negotiated with another club/s for a group deal with some fellow team members.

On the basis of the individual captaincy being taken from Tamou, I am expecting Brooks to be named leader to kick off the season, then see what unfolds until Doueihi returns and in the weeks following.

Someone mentioned Woods v Tamou.
Regardless of how Woods played on the park he was still out performing Tamou by a mile.
I find it interesting that considering how we struggled last year that people would prefer a non on the park performing captain in Tamou over Woods.

Also Tamou is apart of the captains group so I expect he will have the C against him for a game during the year otherwise why else put him into the group of 5 captains?

Generally agree, and expect it's largely a respect thing in not wanting to dump Tamou completely. Though certainly not a controversial decision as taking the captaincy of him would be as close to a unanimously forum supported decision as one gets.

Wow Does this underline one of the main issues we have as a club,

No real leaders other than Tamou (final year) and AD (injured).

No one of worth has wanted to com here in the past 15 years

I’m a little surprised that Hastings wasn’t picked. A lot of people have him in the side over Brooks, even before Douehi comes back from injury. Maybe he isn’t the leader or player people are making him out to be

Voted by the Players - Maybe they know something we don't?

Let him establish himself in NRL before we burden with extra duties.

Was more referencing Brooks....
But yeah, I feel Hastings has so much pressure on him this time round - He needs all the simple he can get.
- He's a legends son
- He failed last time
- He's almost pre-ordained as the WT's saviour
- He's talked up a pretty big game....

I hope he kills it...

Both of those played huge roles in the outcomes.
Nope

edit: correction. Both players PLAYED a big role in the outcomes. The fact they were captain had almost nothing to do with it.

Honestly I couldn't even remember for sure who the 2005 GF captain was, I had to look it up. I thought it was Prince but I wasn't convinced it wasn't Buckets or Hodgo.

In my frank opinion, Hodgo and Buckets were the real leaders in 2005. Prince played great but he wasn't the heart and soul of the side, any more than Benji was.

The obvious captain is Doueihi. But I don't think you can assign a captain in the pre-season who is still months away from returning to football.

Luke Brooks is another candidate but doesn't need the added pressure.

After which Tigers have the already known problem - lack of experience and leadership. This happens when you switch to a youth-focused recruitment and retention strategy.

We bought a guy who has clear leadership and experience capabilities and all anyone has done since is moan that he's not awesome enough, doesn't lead enough.
