Wests Tigers announce leadership group for 2022

I have never heard of teammates choosing their captain/s. Doesn't the coaching staff usually choose? Did they just do a poll and 5 people tied for 1st? Was it a 3,2,1 system?

Disappointed for Twal, maybe he's not interested in leadership, or maybe his teammates don't see him as a leader. I was really hoping he could be the Finucane/Jackson type leader for us. Not being one of the 5 options at this stage of his career effectively means he won't be a captain IMO.

Kenny and Peachy are big surprises. No offense to either of them but them having a (C) really diminishes what it means to be the captain of this club. Tamou did nothing for us last year but his CV was too good to ignore whereas Ken and Peach don't have the same CV. Brooks and Douehi I can understand as they are almost WT through and through (minus Douehis Rabbitohs stint)

It all just seems like a joke. Sort of like "we don't know where we are going, we don't have any good answers but let's keep all our options and maybe we will stumble on to something".

Really surprised by the whole thing.
“What we have now is Teddy and Luke and Jared as our captains. But we have a group coming through in Victor Radley, Nat Butcher, Lindsay Collins, Joey Manu and Angus Crichton.

“They are the next wave that need to step up and support those other leaders. We just had a vote the other day and those guys came in so we are looking forward to bringing on the next generation of leaders as well.”

“And just quietly, we’re paying them all Patrick Mahomes type money”

I’m my opinion the club and Madge is in a no win situation here with Douehi’s injury and the choice for captain. I think if fit he was the obvious choice to captain the team and when he comes back from injury I think he steps straight into the role.

Now he is out injured Madge needed an interim solution until Douehi is back, so what were his choices?

Sticking with Tamou would have seen him roasted and picking an interim captain until Douehi’s return creates instability.

The leadership group (which has Douehi front and centre in the photo) is a chance to have leadership until our long term captain returns.
My thoughts too

Six pages ….. wow!
Well gotta tell you I don’t care
- how many in leadership group,
- who is in leadership group.
- how many captains we have thought the season.
- how many captains we have in a team with different roles.
- who is the preferred captain at any one time.

I do care when the WT play well, archive success and get us to the finals. So I’m pretty sure everyone at the club strives for that …. and for me some of the schoolyard criticism on here is just unhelpful dribble.

We have definitely archived success

All 5 captains will approach the ref at the same time to question his integrity

I don't give a rat's either. But it just shows we are a club clutching at straws TBH.

Fair assessment 😆

Congrats on not caring.
Which would you prefer first?…The medal or the chest to pin it to?

I just came to say, like the previous 2 posters, I don't care. I don't think we won in 2005 because Scott Prince was captain during the GF, nor did we fail because Aaron Woods was the captain for several years.
Both of those played huge roles in the outcomes.

Re-read your comment and think back to what the feel was like at the club in the years these players were captain. Woods is the worst captain the joint venture has ever had. It played it own part in the poor fortunes of this club. His attitude was terrible.

Leadership at all levels do matter.

Tamou would have to be our worst captain so far. At least Woods was effective as far as his on-field performances went.

Having a captain in this sport let alone a leadership group completely unnecessary, what kind of decisions are you making that can significantly impact your team? Compare it to being the captain of a cricket side for example, you'll see the (C) in rugby league is just a token.. anyone with passion in the team can and will rev up the team, don't need a C

I disagree. Woods in his last year acted like an absolute tosser and gave the impression he did not give a stuff about the club. Tamou....for all his on-field faults, never spoke badly about the club (in no way am I saying Tamou is a good captain either).

Yeah the Storm Leadership group of Smith Cronk Slater Bromwich and Munster did alright..
At least Munster could tell his players where to get the white powder from, great leader there Geo

The white powder is just a part of life for many people these days. Especially Footballers, he was just dumb enough to get caught
Maybe so Kearnsy, still not a good emample for kids and you can throw in Bromwich and Proctor.
I agree that if you looked hard enough you would find heaps of players, trainers, officials and maybe coaches who dabble in party drugs but it's not acceptable to label them as leaders, not a good look IMO.

I agree it’s definitely not a good example for kids and I don’t want my kids to be influenced by someone else’s actions like that. But as a grown adult amongst their peers they should be able to make their own decisions and if thats having a good time with substances and no one is driving or acting aggressively towards other people then that is their decision. Just like Alcohol. I don’t think it matters too much amongst footy players. Violence in any way shape or form is much more detrimental to society I believe
