Wests Tigers appoint two new Assistant Coaches

I read somewhere earlier today that one of the reasons Cayless got the gig was because he was very impressive in the interview explaining how he could improve our player's defensive technique. Can't find the reference now, but sounds promising.

Though if I was interviewing for the role and didn't say that I had ideas on how to improve the defence I'd have rocks in my head

Another thing I learned yesterday was how @WestsTigers
loved what Nathan Cayless had to say about club’s defence and how he could help with simplest things like ‘technique’

Defence belt the bloke with the football harder than he runs would be a start…

As if that would work ...we would have tried that by now if it did ....

So when do the coaches come back to work does anyone know ?
I know the Dog's coaches are back today preparing for next year as Gus advised this.

Good to hear from them and areas they are working on

Shane Flanagan has been appointed coach of the Macedonian NRL side known as the Lions Paul Galen is his assistant

I first thought that was a joke until I saw the picture

Very interested to see who’s backing the Macedonian side.

Must be massive money involved considering Shane Flanagan, Paul Gallen, Keith Galloway, Michelle Bishop from Channel 7 and Mark Levy are already on-board.

Glad to hear Gardiner is looking after the attack. I thought the KOE cup team played a really good style of footy.

Speaks well, the stuff he was saying sounded like what we here about madges feedback.
Sounds likes its clear what his role is hopefully translates on field.

In October 2018, Nathan Cayless resigned as head coach of Wentworthville. The Parramatta Eels also announced that they would be ending their partnership with Wentworthville after the conclusion of the 2019 season. Parramatta CEO Bernie Gurr spoke to the media saying "Out of the review we found if we want to be a successful development club we need to have the Parramatta Eels in the ISP. Then you've got a clear one-club mentality".

Yes, this "one club mentality" is exactly what Coach Sheens advocated all those years ago bringing in the one reserve grade at the Wests Tigers.

It was an argument that he lost. Will he win it this time?

He actually didn’t… since 2007 all Wests Tigers contracted players have played for the one feeder team..

And what is the name of that team?

Should be Wests Tigers

Same team , with different name and different colours, mascot etc. I guess the significance and effectiveness of brand power is in the eyes of the beholder? I can’t help but think though, it would send a very positive message?

Reports saying Bulldogs have signed Willie Mason as an assistant coach WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG THERE😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Just watched Nathan Cayless interview. Impressive, intelligent young man. I liked hearing his thoughts on a number of things. His ideas around mentorship, players having a safe place to voice their opinions, continually trying to improve, being decent human beings, suggests he is of the 'working with' mould of coach. I truly believe that if players feel they have a voice and are respected, they will buy into the whole program.

Absolutely agree with you Krammy. He may be able to address the concerns raised by some players about how Madge allegedly speaks to them and hopefully get the best out of them .

I have met Nathan a few times and he is a great guy (even though he played for Parra) and I believe he will do well with the team and we know defence is very much an attitude thing and if he gets them working with the right attitude, then it can only be good for our results next year.

Farah has stepped up his commitments with the Tigers this year working alongside Nathan Cayless on the team’s defence. He is now at training two to three days a week.

“Nathan has been really good,” Farah said. “He has fresh ideas and clarity with what he expects. I’m working closely with him on developing those systems and making some big improvements.”
