Ivan Cleary will be the Wests Tigers’ new head coach, according to Fox Sports chief NRL reporter James Hooper.

And he could be in charge as early as this week.

“Negotiations are ongoing, it’s just wrapped up in a little bit of red tape at the moment,” Hooper told NRL Tonight.

“**They’ve got a football committee appointed, they’ll then make a recommendation to the board.**

“It could happen as early as this week, if not, then absolutely Ivan Cleary will be in the seat at Concord next week.”

Meanwhile, the club has signed ex-Queensland Origin forward Chris McQueen.

“It’s a three-year contract, worth around the $1.2 million mark,” Hooper said.http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/teams/tigers/canterbury-bulldogs-make-massive-play-to-poach-wests-tigers-skipper-aaron-woods-nrl-media-watch/news-story/374f2b4d8180b3c2a49b260b09a9f51a

And yet earlier today a journo somewhere said the board had already given the green light to sign him…...the truth is out there somewhere

We need a proven coach, not another rookie, someone who can man manage, Cleary fits the bill and has previous work experience with Pascoe. We would have had the inside run and the perfect opportunity to get the deal done, if we miss out it will be another poor managerial mistake from the club.

If we miss Cleary it will be because of our clubs history

In our short history we have learnt absolutely nothing , and everyone can see that from a mile away

When you take off the tangerine , black and white shades off for a moment you wonder why Cleary would be considering it when there are some far stronger clubs with far better histories looking for coaches

And even if we do manage to sign Cleary then how many seasons will it take for us to get a roster that is competitive ??

I'm not confident , if I was in Cleary's shoes you'd have to be desperate to want to come here

I think if we move fast it can be achievable for 2018, but only if we get him ASAP.

Too late 851 … we should have done this 6 months ago if this was the plan

Come on Hap,we both have been through tough times in different teams in different States,we both know if everything aligns then all is possible…by that I mean for the first time in years we could be on the right path to success and we both know it doesn't happen overnight...don't worry I want to tell the club to go and get you know what, but I want to give the club and its admin one more chance, and I have given them plenty before...and to be honest,if you have read my posts through the years I can be one of the most forgiving blokes God ever put breath into, but there comes a time, and that time has come...,

We'll see where the cards land TT , but I'm not expecting a mind blowing hand that scoops the pot

Again I won't be surprised if we are bluffing … just like Lovett , just like Simona ....the truth becomes cloudy as usual

Its a pity we don't have a no DH policy on the board , we might be better off

Come on ladies! True to form we have posters sticking the boot into the club on the basis of…..well, nothing really. This forum is becoming nothing more than an hysterical bunch of school girls. Get a grip.

I don't know why we continually have to insult girls - they are better than that!

Only an opinion Flip, but probably because they are better than our team at the moment ….hahaha

What that will be:

Board approved Cleary

Cleary wants cyz for his coaching & additional staff + other cost based activities to be supported before agreeing = board approval needed.

Given our state of lower grades performance wouldn't surprise me if their is a larger overhaul of our ranks.

Get the feeling that this could be the last straw for many WT's fans if we don't sign Cleary

It will be for me. Not because i think he is the be all and end all, but because i believe he is the best available for this club . Certainly better than what we have had and management has had every opportunity to have all this in place and get the deal done. It will just show me, that incompetence is so deep in this club i can't see a way out and ill be buggered if im going to keep paying for me and the boy to be members and parting with hard earned money for the same old crap.

Ive never threatened to walk away before, but ive supported Balmain and now Wests Tigers for 35+ years. All through those times, there were bottom feeding years, but always hope, but i feel if this all falls apart, finally the hope is gone. Ill just be disappointed 3 times a year at Origin instead, although i think change is coming there Happy

Like you Furious,I was a Balmain boy all my footy life, now Iam a Wests Tigers Tragic and love the club, however I can't understand the love for Brooks and Moses as long as it has been, clearly to me,and only in my opinion they are overated and overhyped kids who did really well in NYC,they are not NRL standard playmakers yet demand big dollars….that is what will lose me if they get the big money they want for very little performances in the last three seasons....

Yep -we could have had a turbo charged AustinMartin instead we got a putt putt Broses.

The desperate times were when JT signed on as coach. No money available under the cap, huge back-ended contracts etc.

Right now is the best ever time for any coach to sign on. They will have the majority of the full cap to spend on who they want. They decide to keep all or part of the 'big 4', they get to clear out the lower tier to their delight.

The Farah thing is history, the Simona thing is history.
This is the absolute best time for a coach to come in.

Sadly JT had his hands tied for most of of his time but his biggest failure was to fix our god-awful defense.

Football committee makes a recommendation to WT Board etc etc. For God's sake, just give Cleary the job! Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth!

I am hearing you, maybe they just dont want to hire another JT, although the chances of that are very very slim. But yep he is proven at NRL level, unlike their previous choices.

They are taking their time to "show" they are going through a diligent selection process…and want to show they don't make panicked decisions....from all reports its a done deal with Cleary joining us next week,

Cleary to sign in next 24 hours on nrl tonight.

Another coach about to bring his career to a halt

C'mon champ let's be a little more positive! I like it, I think he's the right fit for us.
We just need to flick Go, and appoint a smarter rugby league knowledgeable board member and we are on our way!
We have a clean slate, new cap and space for Ivan to pick who he wants, which is great for a new coach. Pick up bird sign Moses Tedesco and woods.
Good luck Ivan, all the best. I will be supporting u more than the scarecrow!
Someone finally burned the scarecrow, about time…
