WESTS Tigers have declined to offer Benji Marshall an extens

Hard to believe anything in a Massoud article minus the quotes from Mayer on Brooks/Moses.
Somehow doubt we are paying Todd/McKinnon because they were thinking of playing him last year.

Like what Iam reading, we have a coach and a acting CEO who are on the same wave length and not fighting against one another. Its also a very loud and clear message to Benji, the ball is in his court now and my gut feeling he will want out.

It also explains one of our great mysteries, why our salary cap was under constant pressure.I can only see good things happening over the next few years, with or without Benji

I'm glad the club is starting to finally get its act together. I like their moves at the moment. Sign brooks and Moses up first on long term deals and don't extend benji until he has proven he can be an asset again.

Keep it simple. If in 2 years, he is a better option than brooks. Resign him which will most likely mean we sacrifice brooks. If brooks is better, then we need to let benji go.

I'm all for loyalty, but his brainsnaps and defence are losing us games. We cant carry that for another 5+ years.

Keep up the good work Meyer & potter!

I think Brooks will compliment Benji at 5/8\. The big question is probably around Moses and Benji. Only one can theoretically stay.

I would say with how things are moving along that Potter has been given the job security for 2014 by the board. Signing these two young guys is a win/ win , **I cannot believe some would question this as the money for a few years pales to the huge contracts for many that are not worth feeding.** I would image Marshall should be happy with the upgraded money as promised and with employment for a further 2 seasons on big money, realistically no one would sign any player of that age to a contract after 2015 …2 seasons in the NRL is a very long time

If this is directed at me, then its not so much about the money, its more about the length of the deal and the fact theyve proved nothing yet in NRL - as someone mentioned "Sign brooks and Moses up first on long term deals "
No.
We dont need to be reckless anywhere, wether its with marquee players or promising juniors….we need to be smart in everything we do.
Just because they'll be on lower priced deals doesnt justify long term deals - imo

When do we get rid of "Rolls" Royce Simmons? We need a quality defensive coach.

Like that we are signing Brooks and Moses for the long term.

Benji to the Warriors?

Very sensible and reasoned comments. The club is starting to get its act together now that sheens has gone.i can only hope that Royce Skando and Georgallis are also given the punt at the end of the year and Potter gets the people he wants.

In a disastrous year positive things are staring to happen

I dunno how sensible it is to sign untried kids to long term contracts…..I think this is even more riskier than what weve been doing in the past that got us to where we are now

I think it's a risk we need to take Ink. We have cap pressures, so if you can get these kids locked in for a bit on a cheaper contract before they display their skills in 1st grade (and command much higher coin), it will really pay off if they perform.

Yes, they are untested in the NRL, but hopefully the guys making the decisions can assess how well they are learning at their current age and apply that forward.

Focusing on our talented youngsters is the way we got ourselves out of our mess in 2005\. I think we need to do the same again and just keep the right experienced players with the heart to play 80 minutes. (Farah, Woods, Galloway & Fulton)

Smart is locking down good players at good value. Lower priced deals make a major difference.

The long term deals that have stuffed us now are the pricy deals of Lawrence & Blair as well as paying for players when they move to other clubs - all established players. It was never locking down good juniors that brought us down.

I like the Mayer quote.

Signing Brooks & Moses up now to low base salaries while they develop is key to finding our path going forwards.

Considering they still have NYC elligible time it makes it prudent to look at 2 - 3 years or two years with a club dictated option for 3

You think their agent will agree to a minimal priced/long term deal?

Its takes two to tango

Theres the security of the longterm, but that comes at a cost to the player who sacrifices $$ for years

Theres a big IF in your first reply…long term is 5 years - no.

I love the guy but this is the point. I'd rather win games than watch the dross he dishes up throughout the game.

I also can't see why we can't keep Brooks, Moses and Marshall. Brooks and Moses are young and have plenty of time to develop. One of them could easily play off the bench for a season or two.

If you think we are going to get these kids at a bargain price because we offer them a long term contract now your dreaming. Their manager will have all sorts of clauses in the contract,to ensure they get upgrades along the way.The main advantage is trying to keep the predator clubs away. Their are risks in signing any young kids, but these two are as close as you get to a certainty.

Another smart move coming out of Camp Concord

I think Marshall, Brooks, & Moses will all be here. As someone said Brooks & Moses wont come cheap as your Melbourne, Penrith & other teams will chase them, as for Benji if in 2 years he is playing good Footy sign him again, pretty simple really. The other thing is dont sign players then let them go & we have to pay most of their contract money.

If they are playing firsts and killing it who cares? We can be like Manly…DCE and Foran and our Moses and Brooks.

I like your post hammertime. I'm glad that the club didn't go overboard and bow to Benji's wishes, he has to knuckle down now, and practice what he has been preaching for sooo loong. I'm not sure that he can though, I think he was put on a pedestal too soon in his career, and hasn't been able to reach the heights that have been expected of him.

I like many other posters on this subject do not want to see Benji leave our club, but if he can achieve his goals elsewhere, and if he is unhappy at our club now, well I guess he will leave, but I for one hope this will not be the case 😛ray:

I think the new "top men" in our club are on the right track now, so we will see some changes, and we need to, so that our club can once again achieve greatness, through it's good management and good selection/retention of players :righton:

Will be interesting to see how marshall reacts tonite

Going by how he's reacted to criticism and the need for leadership in the past … I reckon we'll see 3 missed tackles, 2 passes to row 10 and 1 penalty kick not make touch.

Las time he was stung, he played his only decent game of the year. So I expect a fired up, passionate Benji. Anything less and i'll have my doubts regarding his own comments this week and it would only add fuel to the fire. I'm not expecting the world from him tonight but I want to see a positive reaction. I want to see passion, fire and commitment. All I expect is a step towards a better Benji.

I think, he'll have a big part in 3 or more tries tonight, assiting or scoring I'm not sure but he will want to get his value up and prove everyone wrong tonight.

Hope the management doesn't knee jerk and sign him up for 600k+ till 2017.

I'm starting to see blue skies in Tiger Town , for to long he's been protected under Sheens and it's about time the club get's serious .
Loyalty exist as long as form warrants it , if we don't perform in our every day jobs then we would be fired same applies to these guys . We can't keep living in the past, yeah he helped us win the "05" premiership but at the same time we stayed loyal to him when he had a terrible run of injuries , let's not forget he also played bullying tactics " if you don't resign Sheens i'm out of here" that he only wanted to play under Sheens.
You sign Benji till 2017 and you will loose Brooks and Moses or run the risk of that happening.
So many other players have had it too good for too long.
