I'm still a little peeved at this whole ticketed/non-ticketed thing. I don't live in Sydney… I don't live in Australia... but I want to be (and am) a paid up member of my club and I want it to count. There is no point me buying tickets, but even when I pay for the Stripes membership (even added the extra to get a ticket for 1 game, as I am often in the country at some stages) it doesn't count as a ticketed member and doesn't count when they show how many members the clubs have. I agree getting members signed up and buying tickets before the season is a positive thing, helps with stats and income... but why doesn't my membership count???

the nrl.com tally includes non-ticketed members.

SO WHAT?

Stu's point remains valid - while yours is purely vapid!

Melbourne membership only went on sale about 2-3 weeks ago.

Two simple questions mm:

WHY?

And - how do you know?

Why? I don't know, I don't work for the Storm

How do I know? LU Storm fans were constantly harping on about how they weren't out yet, and the Storm membership tally was on 0 for most of January (which obviously wasn't a coincidence).

Storm website had stories of when they went on sale, it was also memntioned in membership tally articles that Storm sales begam very late

How are the Tigers tracking here??

I heard on the Radio that Roosters and Sharks are exceeding their expectations for 2011\. (No big deal IMO when you only have 25 supporters per club)

Has there been (or is there usually a ) late flurry on memberships for the Tigers??

the same thing happened last year. i dont know why they dont have their memberships on sale sooner.

I believe the Storm were waiting to secure a major sponsor before sending out literature and package details

2011 - 5356 member as @ Friday 21st Jan according to NRL.COM
2011 - 5540 as @ Tuesday 25th Jan according to weststigers.com.au
2011 - 6386 as @ Wed 16 Feb according to weststigers.com.au

Almost reached 2010 levels with 3 1/2 weeks till the first game.

2010 - 6526 Members

I wonder if we will always have it start to plateau out at this level with the Grand Stand seating at the grounds being limited.

I take the numbers on the NRL site with a grain of salt.
In 2010, Tigers had 3rd highest av. home crowds after Brisbane and Dogs.
'09, 4th best after Brsibane, Dogs, Titans.
We are consistently the 1st or 2nd best drawing Sydney club.
Other's can claim 17,000 - 20,000 members but there actual crowd numbers don't match ours.

Thats true, but it poses the question, why dont our fans want to become a member?
I'm sure the club would love those figures

I think it has alot to do with demographic Ink.

Both ecconomic in terms of outlay but also the high junior participation rate in our junior leagues would affect alot of parents buying ST's as you know. Penrith suffers from a very similar problem.

I feel we are one club who would benefit greatly from a draw completely determined before the season

Yeh good point, kids sports do interfere with attending NRL, jnr players get free passes so that too would inhibit some parents maybe, I guess the home ground situation is another factor, I know quite a few people that only attend games at the one ground, they may make an effort come september if we make it tho.

it has more to do with most of our fans being on the tight mortgage belt of the western suburbs with two young kids e.t.c it is not always easy to commit to a couple of hundred dollars for membership when they are on a tight ship as opposed to individual fees for games.having said that our supporters are the best and never forget our working class roots.

Although their are many of packages, the three ground thing dosnt help. For the people of South west Sydney its a big hike to get to both LO and the SFS, like wise its a big hike for the inner city folk to go out to Cambo four times a year. Also for most young families, they dont know what they are doing this weekend so to commit for a whole season is a big ask. For nutters like myself its the best three hours of the week and worth every cent

So how do Souths crack 17000 members yet can't pull all of them to a game?

God knows. Probably includes ticket sales to Russell Crowe films.
