Wests Tigers name five co-captains

Just sounds like over-kill and over-complicating things to me. It will be interesting to see how it translates on the field.

I just hope having 5 captains doesn't end up like having no captain.
Hopefully they don't just look around not knowing who's supposed to be doing what.

Can’t see the problem with this.
I quite like it and they’re not all going to be on the field at the same time.
Someone will stand out by their actions by seasons end and will be the Captain going forward.

I actually think it is a decent idea Lawrence was the choice of many on here, but to be honest he is not even guaranteed to be in the 17 each week let alone starting.
Personally i would have made Lawrence Club captain and Taylor/Reynolds co captains with Taylor doing the talking to the refs

Who would have though
I think it's a great Idea
It shares the respocibility among 5 of our best and experienced players
They all bring their own traits which we would all love rolled into one superstar player
Well we don't have a superstar
This is shared responcibility and takes the pressure off that one player
When we begin to become the Wests Tigers team we all want then we can look at a sole captain
Look at the number of great players in recent times who have failed as a captain at other club's and the team's have suffered
M Moylan
S Johnson
R Tuiavsa sheck
Great players we would all agree but appointing them as sole captain has affected their game and the clubs performances
Share the love I reckon
I would imagine he who stands out will eventually become captain
This may make the boys try that little bit harder to leed by example
All 5 of them
Can only be good for us
In Ivan I trust

5 Co-Captains?

That's just embarrassing!

How ? Or Why ?

Its not like Captains make that many decisions in a club but they have a lot of jobs. Ive never understood 1 captain in a professional club

I know you like to drink the WT cool-aid but even you must understand why one leader is important in a team sport right?A bus has one driver. Not only do we now need all these new players to gel but we are relying on all 5 skippers to be on the same page??? just stupid.

I was worried when i saw the team list for the trial and it smacked me in the face of how lacking Wests are in many areas. This now has added to my worries. Its embarrassing and completely out of sinc in what we are told that no one player is bigger than the club. The only possible reason to have 5 captains would be to appease someone who feels they should have it. luckily the chances of finals are slim so we wont have to have the embarrassment of 5 WT in the captains of finals team photo.

Yeah on the same page
Winning games
Hail Ivan :master:

Maybe they can divide the duties - one captain for the coin toss, one for dressing room speeches, one to talk to the ref, one for post game pressers, one to decide what to do when we get a penalty. As further duties become apparent more players can be tapped.

Game day will be like a kinder surprise.

Good luck refs, be a great way to annoy them with 5 blokes running up and having a say.

Dumb decision.

:blah

I thought Cleary was waiting for someone to stand up in pre season. Maybe no one did.

Will the 5 co-captains play Rocks /Paper / Scissors on the sideline at full time to determine who attends the post match presser ?

I'd say it's mainly for two reasons.

1) when we went through the Farah debacle or the woods debacle, we couldn't stop the media flow, because they were still expected to be trundled out in front of the media for every press conference. This way if any top players are in the media we trundle out someone else and say the reason we decided on co captains is to reduce the workload of said player.

2) The "leader" of the pack is either a bench player / someone not expected to play every game. If the captain wasn't picked at all or on the bench it would be a sticking point for the media.

On an off note, is there anyway our squad may be very interchangeable next year? I.e. Like the Aus cricket team resting players throughout the year to reduce injury and also we might pick a side better suited to the opposition. For example playing Kevvie against a slower centre who won't be able to get outside him or Fanou if we are up against a centre with weak defence. (Maybe a bad example but you get the idea)

Similar to the cricket laying two spinners on certain pitches and how they rested there quicks for a match each in the series.
