Wests Tigers need quick $1m to survive

I am with Abe on this one! The games we had allocated to LO and CS this year were either crap games, or were scheduled on Friday or Monday nights. The club complained about this before the season even kicked off in 2013.

Add to this our ongoing poor form over the season and Benji Marshalls inability to compete and I think it is probably pretty fair to rule out our crowd numbers for this season.

We always here how theres no better place to be than LO, but now all of a sudden its only the place to be on a sunny Sunday afternoon. If people loved it like they say they do they'd pack the place rain, hail or shine even if they played games at 3 in the morning. There's only 4 games played there a yr, with the love that people declare for it there should be no excuses.

Bondi beach is rated one of the best in the world. People rave about it and pack it out most days in summer. But if its p*ssing down rain and the wind is blowing sand everywhere, the place turns into a ghost town pretty quickly.

Not because its suddenly turned into a sh*t house beach, but because no one wants to sit on wet sand and be cold and miserable when they can be doing other things.

Kinda get where this is going … ?

There is a bit of a difference between going to the beach in crap weather and going to the footy. Bit hard to swim and soak up the sun when its raining. Its not hard to still enjoy a game of footy and appreciate the ground in the rain.

I don't know that LO ever got great crowds at night, irrespective of whether it was hot or cold or raining. Even in the Panasonic Cup nights.

Not as many people attend night time footy, and that is why the league have introduces a Saturday avo game for the last month of the comp. Problem is Saturday sport gets in the way so this may not be the answer either. I remember in the late 80's early 90's when most games were played on Sunday avo with no TV coverage bar a try or two on the Sunday night news.

i don't follow this crap closely,so maybe someone can educate me.
the money being put up by wests is a loan or cash injection.
all i see is loan.is that with interest as well.
if the loan is paid back, then what.
do we go through another round of crap trying to go back to 50/50.

nothing makes sense to me.
thank god for the american football season coming up.

thank god the **association football season is here**.

Fixed

yeah,true.
i started filming football here last week.
about to produce 16 games every saturday for the next 3 months.
love it.

Sounds great. Do you get to move around to the games, or are you stuck in the office?

i should clarify this is pee wee football.and it's become my passion.
i film 4 games at 1 ground and send 3 cameramen to the other 3 grounds.
then i edit all 16 games and have all games online in full 1080p 25meg bitrate in 48 hours.which means no sleep.
right now i'm setting up film rooms for each team so they can review film with the players more efficiently.
superbowl will have 4 camera setup with commentary.

junior football is an amazing operation over here if you are in the right league.
certainly puts the wests tigers to shame.

might actually help if the board went back to the grass roots of the game and seriously ask themselves why they are there.

sorry to hijack the thread.

When a ground's main attraction is the walk to the ground with a hot dog in each hand, and the atmosphere on the grass hill on a sunny afternoon, then yeah it is comparable I'd say.

Huddled under a wet blanket with mud up to your ankles isn't most people's idea of a good night out.

Same goes for all outdoor activities, the enjoyment factor is largely dependent on the weather.

What a cop out. They play 4 games a yr there, and considering in all likely hood the ground doesn't have too long left, you'd think games there would be treated like gold dust.

Also, theres a sense of great tribalism cheering on your team in the pouring rain

Interesting subject maybe you could post more in the off season about the Football league.

If I was a mad keen surfer and could only get to the beach 4 days a year a bit of rain wouldnt keep me away.

Obviously your in the small minority there, judging by the crowd figures in good weather (17k v parra), compared to the crowds in the pouring rain and thunder storms (5k & 7k vs melbourne and NZ).

No, its just you Abe…as it stands

Youve 'done the work' but wont provide the links.

Why?

As promised… Taken from different years and different sources to avoid any claims of bias or fudging the figures. As i said not bad for a club with a shambolic front office, shambolic dressing room, and a bank account going backwards.
