Wests Tigers plan to play Tim Moltzen at halfback

My thinking is this.

Moltzen is probably not the best halfback at our club - that i'm sure we can all agree on

**_BUT,_**

In my opinion, he is undoubtedly the best player in the WHOLE club to be combining with Marshall, due to the combinations they have developed and how well they know each other off the field.

Utai is in witha shot as Lote is having serious dramas with his wrist.

If thats the case, could Reddy be an option to start on the wing and brown at fullback.

Damn I hope Lote gets his wrist sorted, even if he misses a month first up rather then trying to play through it.

Lote should stop over working his wrist and focus on footy!…..

Slightly miffed .I see Miller as the long term half back option for the club and Moltzen after his end of 2011 season form as the fullback option

We do have a few options at either fullback or half back but my first option is Miller at 7 Moltzen at 1

Maybe Sheens sees Tedesco as the future at 1 and Moltzen at 7

We will know for certain in about 6 weeks

Sheensy always keeps kids in NYC if he has other options that are close to the mark. Miller might be more talented, but wasn't going to massively outshine Moltzen's experience, so why not keep the kid in NYC. It's a top grade comp and it's hardly like he missed out. He will get his time and will probably be 1st string backup (along with Chisholm). It will be completely different when Miller is ineligible for NYC next year, he will certainly be the 7 then.

Tedessco won't be in the 1 either for the same reason. I think it's between Humble and Chisholm. I'm surprised Dane's name hasn't been mentioned more at 1\. He seems to have the right skill set for it.

Reddy will make the perfect super-sub at 14, but might sneak in at 1.

Hammer i heard today off a top 25 player Tedesco will get first crack at fullback. Id say if he goes ok in the trials he will get the gig

WOW!! That is a quick rise. I think he will defnately be good enough at some point in the not too distant future, hopefully he is good enough now…..time will tell.

Wow. Good source. That would be something. I honestly haven't seen the kid play too much.

It would be the First time sheensy would have promoted a kid that fast since Lawrence, and he has some decent competition for the spot. He must be an outstanding prospect

Whoever gets the fullback gig will be just keeping it warm for Teddessco for later in the year or next year

I won't be surprised if this turns out to be the case. Tedesco could very well be the next Tiger signed up long term.

Let,s not forget Moltz was our first choice HB way back in 09, and most were fairly happy about it then, untill injury took it,s toll on his career, which then opened the door for Lui. I would be pleased to see him get first crack at the @7, thus making it his own. Let,s see what happens?.

Jesus!

Thats a serious wrap for the kid if true. I hope he goes well.

The kicking game will now be a big worry. Benji is hot and cold, Farah great out of dummy halve but you need other quality options and frankly Moltzen has a poor kicking game. Lui was very effective last year especially at the mid range stuff

I thought moltzens kicking game isn't half bad, he just really hasn't had a chance to show it off.

He certainly has the biggest boot in the club if I'm not mistaken.

If not, Farah might have to take more of an active kicking role. He was pretty absent with that last year (probably due to his groin issues)

If we play Miller at halfback we have no issues with our kicking game and as we saw last season ,when our kicking game is on song the Tigers are on song

Sheens came out a few years ago and gave him a massive rap as the longest kicker in the club, the next weekend he fluffed every attempt at kick. Also if you ever have seen his short kicking game its woefull, but things can change with heaps of practice but at this level i just dont see him as a kicker

I can't see the height of the raps miller is getting, saying I we have miller we won't have kicking problems, I watched 90% of his NYC games in 2011 and he is a long way off playing first grade, not gonna win a comp with him at halfback in 2012.. Very relieved moltz is hb, miller, if he is ever going to be good enough will have to buy his time.. Molts best option and strongest option for 2012

Happy, u day there wouldn't be kicking problems with miller, anything great u have seen him do in NYC will not cut it at nrl, it would have to be a lot better, don't base wot u have seen as good enough in NYC as being good enough for first grade. For most of the second half of the season he couldn't even dominate NYC let alone discuss him for starting first grade hb

Tigerlogic you seem to forget that Miller lost two of his best assets (Groat and Woods) to NRL top side and that although sides will be focussing on him they have far bigger issues to worry with Farah,Marshall,Lawrence Ayshford Moltzen and fully fit Lote hopefully

He will also be playing behind a forward pack that contains Gallaway ,Woods,Ellis ,Blair,Groat, Heighington and Bell

I am slightly concerned about Miller not stepping up but as well as looking at 2012 we must also look at the future

If he doesn't step up we have Moltzen ,Chisholm and Humble to fall back on

But Miller should be given first shot at the 7 jersey

Why should he be given first crack?

I think Miller will make it but I think he needs to be brought along slowly - straight into 7 in an NRL team is a lot of pressure.

I agree regarding the Tigers u/20's last year they did look a little lost upfront especially late in the season and this did impact Jacob's performances.

I dont think Moltzen should be out half. However it is a new year so I will give him the opportunity. We have several people to potentially fill the fullback role this year - which isn't really a luxury the Tigers have had for a while now.

My only real concern with Moltzen is Sheens switching him around every week. Whatever position he's going to play, he needs to stay there permanently.

He will probably need time to find his feet again at halfback, hopefully Sheens gives him some time to do that, but doesn't drag it out for too long if it's not working.
