Wests Tigers sign James Roberts till 2022

If we have in fact snagged Roberts for 150k, i think its a signing with great potential value. But i question if this figure is accurate - Why would a player forgo an approx 500k just to sign with the tigers for significantly less? Was he forced out of the rabbitohs?

I suspect Rusty topped him up before he resigned, they were clearing cap space

I’m OK with signing Roberts for the right $$$ and hopefully we have some contract conditions for protection. I hope we never need them because I’d love to see Jimmy back to his best and tearing up the paddock for the Tigers!

The fact we are looking at Jimmy shows how desperate Tigers are to sign someone, almost anyone. Total desperation.

Why? There are a number of successful clubs who make similar signings. If we’re paying big $ maybe, but if he’s fit and good value we’d be nuts not to consider it.

You cannot add a bloke like that to a group that on face value hasn’t had a true leader in a while and that reportedly hates training hard. An absolute recipe for disaster. If Wayne gives up on you, there’s a reason.

Whilst I think Mansour would be a colossal mistake, Roberts at min wage is worth the risk. If (and it's a big if) he can get back to 70% of his old form, he'll be one of our best players. If he delivers nothing, no big deal.

There’s more to the Souths story that we don’t know about. And reading the media today Lee/Justin/Adam didn’t bother asking what that was. Another case of WT dropping the ball in my opinion. Read Wayne Bennett’s book, he is famous for getting the best of of troubled young men, he’s given up on Jimmy.

Don't get me wrong, i have zero faith in management, but in my opinion at min wage he's worth the risk. We have a very pedestrian backline, he'd add something (maybe).

Bring Daine Laurie or similar in, give a young guy an opportunity, if we can’t get stars I want guys who want to be pros.

Why not both? 2021 will be painful anyway, trot out a backline of:

1. Laurie
2. Nofo
3. BJ
4. Jet
5. AJ
6. AD
7. Brooks

and see what happens. It might be terrible it might be good. Certainly won't be boring though.

Rather give Momo a try and Tommy is going ok, still young and Storm wanted him, he’s going to get there

Momo is a plodder. I'd rather Roberts or Talau or AJ ahead of Momo.

I'd rather Momo - has a better try strike rate.

Think he’ll be in CC Russ. We’re not buying the Jet to play reserve grade.

What are we going to do Avo when he runs off the rails as usual.

Then we’ll put in Talau. If Talau gets injured we can play AJ there.

IMHO Talau has a high ceiling and next year will be his break out year, Storm wanted him and they simply don’t miss on recruitment, lock him up Tigers.

Agree! Talau is a solid future 6. imo

I think he'd make a great lock he's got size and it allows him to play both sides of the field
But I have this feeling his next contract won't be here because someone will offer him more

You could be right. He certainly has the speed and elusive step his of his dad.

Great news finally... Its a no brainer for me at this price and on our terms..
I do like the fact he said Tigers have a good indigenous program in place and something he can assist with.. Also might help with JAC

Cool, I still think he may be the bait for JAC? But if he can produce whats in the video, fantastic.

I noticed in the presser, that he mentioned how impressed he was with our indigenous work.

“I’m also really impressed with the work Wests Tigers are doing in creating pathways for Aboriginal people and it’s something I’m really passionate about.

JAC has mentioned this type of thing before.

I hope the club can support him with whatever he needs to get in the right headspace for success.

Smells fishy as, waiting for the story, “JTJ to miss pre season with chronic injury”

He will be gone by mid season the guy can’t help himself we were probably the only offer he had I don’t care what this guy signed for he’s a waste of a signing

I seriously hope you are wrong.

What’s JAC’s problem?

I'm still unsure why he parted ways with South's? Obviously wasn't to get away from footy.

He is back in training with a 300k+ haircut?
Something doesn't add up.

No fussed by the signing. Worth the risk I suppose.

Although doesn't Justin look sharp??

I’m sure they will no matter what happens with the man.

so who plays left centre? both BJ and Jimmy have played on the right for as long as I can remember.

With any luck a youngster's form will demand one centre spot and the older boys can fight with the others for the remaining position.

Holy smokes, has anybody looked at this man's family tree??? Not only is he related to Amos Roberts and Tyrone Roberts, but Albert Kelly, Anthony Mundine, and Greg Inglis.

Yeah James did his achilles, I dunno what its like for football players but I know from basketball most cases you never have the movement you used to have. Hope for his sake he can get speed again, anything's possible

Worst injury I ever had. It took me 12 months to recover fully and, as you say, my movements today is not 100%. I also have a large chunk missing from the back of my leg due to one botched surgery.

Wasn’t his Achilles injury back in 2018?

His most recent injury was a pec.

For those who were concerned, looks like Justin combed his hair for you:

That look you get when someone left a TV on the side of the road and it works
