. Wests Tigers is a club with strong convictions and a strong identity, and I have no doubt that Zane’s rugby league journey so far will continue to see him develop into a fine young man.”

Being convicted of sexual assault is now phrased as 'part of your rugby league journey?' to being a fine young man?

They would have been better just saying he made mistakes, acknowledges them and wants a second chance.

This is crap . He kissed a girl he was with in a far more closer way , a week before. He was drunk and totally misread the situation .
That could and probably has happened to any of us .
Consent laws are hectic nowadays. I would hate to be a young male , not out to do wrong , just making the mistake of counting your chickens . He shouldn’t have touched her , but man , that’s a tough one .

Could have happened to any of us?

He aggressively forced himself on her in a public place, continued when she started crying, and bit her lip.

I have had multiple relationships and been married 19 years now...I have never done any of that and I doubt 99% of posters here have not also.

Is that true ? If it’s as you say then fine, that’s rough .
I read he was making out with her , she lost interest , and he kept going not realising.
Am I wrong ? Because if that’s what happened , then yes that could happen to anyone. Especially when alcohol is involved.
As for the forcing himself on her in public . Have you never seen a drunk couple , dry humping on the dance floor? Or been that drunk couple ?

You are close with the club willow...could we not at least have got a few words of remorse?

I am uncomfortable with this one personally. Even during the court case, him and coleman did not take it seriously. Coleman flicked the media with water...players were laughing outside court.

Nothing seems to matter as long as you can play footy.

I would have liked something like "I have learnt from my mistakes, am deeply apologetic and hope that fans will afford me a chance to redeem myself"...rather than "part of his rugby league journey". Who on earth wrote that presser?

I agree.....part of his rugby league journey is a terrible choice of words.

hmmmmm.

I know we need the numbers but unsure of this guy

Very unsure. We need a prop with size, but I have a hard time ethically just ignoring this:

Quote: “In the cold light of day you could observe the distress on her. She was crying and upset. It even affected her here today,” Mr Lyon said.

I'm hearing you....

I felt the same about packer....

This ethically is harder for me as it was a young woman.

Packer, at least, was against a man (albeit an unconscious one and he stomped on his head)

I don't want to bring this thread down, but there is a legit chance next season at times we will have a front row of
Packer
Josh
Musgrove

Not sure what message that sends and what type of club we are trying to be. They were pretty strong only a couple of years back about being a "no ___heads" club. Seems that has been completely thrown out the window.

And, yeah, I get that we need a big prop and Musgrove fits the bill....

Not sure if Josh has been convicted yet... So no reason to be throwing him into that list with the rest of them. Also find it funny that you seem to somehow consider Zane's offense to be more serious than Packers because Packer did it to a man... Packer stomped on and nearly killed a man. Musgrove moved for a woman more aggressively than he should have. Hardly a comparison regardless of whether it was done to a young woman or man.

Fair points, and yes, Packer's was worse.

I just come from the old school where 'nothing' against a woman is justified vs well, blokes will occasionally fight each other. (Not justifying Packer)

So the signing we are announcing this week is someone we signed a year ago....sigh.....

We don't do things right sometimes. Knew I shouldn't be getting my hopes up.

He'll do penance with the club with plenty of community work.

I am outspoken on violence towards women and generally don't want a bar of them being at my club. Had Zane's actions been more serious, no way would I want him here and still don't particularly want him. However, he has had his days in court, been convicted of relatively minor indiscretion and served penance of a year out of the game, so I will accept him to the side.

Fair enough, no sure I would term it minor.
If it was my wife / partner / child he did it to, I certainly would not want to see him playing pro footy each week.

Yeah, I have thought about it for a while and that is why I prefaced it with "relatively". We all have to have a threshold of tolerance for actions or mistakes and a position on suitable punishment for each of them.

As I stated, he was sentenced appropriately to the finding and has already served an employment penalty, so whilst not wanting him, I will accept him on the basis of that punishment. If my personal threshold was any higher, I doubt that I would ever speak to so many males of some generations, as I reckon a damn lot would be guilty of similar to that of Zane.

Imagine supporting a club where you have to discuss the severity of the players sexual assault cases. Not including king hitting forwards or Uber smashing utilities. This club just keep going backwards. You can tell that they’re embarrassed by this signing by the timing of the announcement.

Also, Musgrove's actions were never right but at least we aren't signing Tetevano. His were much worse and should definitely not be in the NRL anymore... but go figure, the Panthers and IC were happy to sign the grub.

If the "insiders" are true, we were happy enough to sign Tetevano...Panthers just offered more.

Madge picked him for NZ.

Not trying to derail the thread, it just seems that we are okay with a player having a record of this stuff.

And, yeah, once again I do get it...we do need a big bopper up front and Musgrove may well be a good signing from a footy perspective.

Sadly true, and I do have an issue. Maybe when I was younger I would not have cared, but now I am a father and see things a little differently.

Good signing 🙂 would be cheap, and he will have something to prove
We have some competition for front rowers next year

whatever takes the emphasis away from stealing from charities.....

hahahaha gotta love your league!!!! Imagine the stuff the older players used to get away with back in the day???

Like the big man said "throw the first stone". I really believe that Zane has learnt his lesson and will be a much better for it.

Agree. I'm sure he will and as he's yet to do a press conference it's a bit early for others to suggest he won't offer some sort of remorse.

I'd clearly prefer there to be no issue but I'm happy enough with the signing. Zane and Lucy will add some starch that we've been missing. Hopefully Packer leads by example - both on and off the field - and this helps young Zane gain some fan redemption.

Given the past 12 months, I'd hope he understands he owes us a bit.

Mate , I have a daughter as well . But I also have a son .
My advice to both will be stay safe, surround yourself with safe people and always be aware of predators.
To my son , if she says no at any point . That’s it , your out.
To my daughter if you feel uncomfortable at any time say no ! And your out .
In spite of all this , I can’t help but remember multiple times in nightclubs having been with a girl previously only for her to tap out . And tapping out myself . The abrupt nature of both really was leaving a lot open for interpretation.

Well don't support the club, simple.

Can't say Ive ever noticed him play so cant really have a crack at us signing him. Lets hope he has the goods.

Most NRL clubs have similar stories.

Never really impressed me at south BUT Young and hungry might mean something i don't know about . Did Madge go to England to find that elusive speedy back that they have hidden at Charles Kingsfords Quarantine section
