How is Jennings in ahead of Corey Thompson...oh

Well done tigers

Yes it would be nice to have Thompson on the wing this weekend but he has gone
With Jennings back on the Wing it shows our depth or lack of for the Wing position
But I have faith
I would be both extremely surprised and disappointed if Madge has let Corey go without a replacement being signed
I am expecting an announcement in another 48 hours ?

I’m thinking the 48 hours thing is sarcasm wrapped in irony right?

Yes mate
But I do believe Madge has a plan here
**Surely he wouldn't let Thompson go without a better replacement lined up**
He would know the backlash he would receive by doing so
The only way to appease everyone is to Sign a better player who can add something more to our team
And in a position of need

Hmmm don’t be so sure.

From the sounds of it Corey was pushing for the release. May not be a replacement for a while, club didn’t want to hold him back

You’d think they’d have someone in mind by the cut off date.

Hopefully don’t promote some no hope junior again.

Had a bit of a chuckle with the thought of those expecting further big and numerous changes as I read through the starting side. Noticing and unsurprisingly at that, that the run on side was even closer to that of a fortnight ago than it was last week.

Eisenhuth, Jennings and Mcintyre. Cowboys have major injuries and average at best but we will struggle. Too many weak links in our side this week.

Not many other options really. Clark and Seyfarth didn’t set the world on fire either. May as well give Eiso and McIntyre a chance to prove themselves

Madge is for sure sussing out which of these off contract forwards to keep and who to boot. Then he can sign some new guys hopefully but that’s a while away

Great system, don't worry about winning games, just try out players.

Obviously he has given up on the 2020 season by the look of it.

Come on Russell no negative thoughts you did say you need patience to be a tigers supporter

What’s Sam Mclntyre like ?

Is he a plodder ?

Jennings....Jesus Christ ...shoot me now !

Benji must be peed off !

Extreme plodder.

Cessnock level player.

Worse than Seyfarth?

Who knows will be interesting viewing.

Please tell me

- what’s the go with Taylor surely gets a run

- should benj be on the benj as the super sub or do we leave him out or we will never change

Thoughts on McIntyre

Are Taylor and McQueen off contract next year?

I’m confident we can win this weekend actually. We normally do well against cowboys and hopefully they boys can play with the same energy as last week minus a few of the silly errors

So happy to see Luciano is fit to play and that Garner is back and Lawrence is out.

It's not Saturday 5:30pm yet...

Yeah because 7.20 pm will be so much better

I have selected them in LMS..expect them to win this week..recon they match up well against the Cowboys...

I'm not saying we won't beat them ...but you mentioned yourself about the constant changes

If we don't complete our sets , Taumalolo and his band of merry men will roll us up the guts like a hot knife through butter

Brooks has to be far ,far better overall as well

2 changes were forced..it's difficult with no Canterbury Cup as all Maguire has to go on is training...Eisenhuth will do a job and Seyfarth hasn't really stepped up ..bit surprised with McIntyre's selection and Taylor hasn't been sited of knobby's since the resumption which is odd..thought he was going OK before it shut down

Brooks does need to be better for sure...he hasn't been a terrible as been made out..recon we will see an improvement again on last week from the team enough to get the job done..

They need to keep it direct like they did in the first half slipped away in the second.

Do we even need Rankin after all we do have Jennings oh

Taylor and McQueen won’t be signed they are both off contract. Twal is playing 80 at lock so ET has no role. McQueen is well off the pace he is not a first grader.

McIntyre was good in NSW Cup solid all round player but relatively slight tall forward will get dominated against NRL sides.

If Twal is moved to prop after 20 minutes and the 1st change we can utilize ET for 30-40 minutes ..especially when teams have taken advantage of our defensive issues from the 20th -40th minute marks

Yeah I don't see why Taylor doesn't get a look in. He can do the same job that Eisenhuth can but offers more ball playing. It may be as someone mentioned earlier that Maguire just doesn't think he will have adjusted yet to the fact that under the new rules you can no longer endlessly molest tackled players on the ground.

Taylor offers less in attack than Eisenhuth, both great defenders but these new rules don’t suit Taylor at all. He’ll get another few games sometime in the year I’m sure but wouldn’t be surprised if he retires at years end.

We are the worst favourites in the NRL

@jirskyr did an analysis of that and found differently

So what we are 14th best worst favourites lol

Well precisely speaking I didn't compare us against any other sides in that analysis, only to point out that we consistently won at >50% when favourites (i.e. more than average and not regularly losing).

However because I love you both I looked at it just now against other teams, between 2009-2017 (1783 matches):
- when favourites at home, Tigers have the fourth-worst (13th) win rate of 59.57%, ahead of Sharks, Raiders and Eels (Eels being worst)
- when favourites away, Tigers have 6th-best win rate in the comp with 62.07%, behind Doggies (best), Storm, Titans, Eels, Bunnies.
- totals for being favourite - Tigers 6th worst in the comp (11th) with 60.53% ahead of Raiders, Eels, Sharks, Warriors, Knights.

So not one of the better sides of winning when favourites but not in the bottom few. Actually we have a very good record for being favourites away. Storm, Panthers and Broncos are the Top 3 for reliability when favourites.

Also there's another thing to consider about the data. The worst 6 teams for "wins as favourites" are also in the bottom 7 teams for win % overall, so there is a very strong correlation between overall win rate and win rate as favourites. In other words, i.e. the teams that struggled to win did so regardless of whether or not they were favourites, despite favourites comfortably winning at > 50% (as you would expect from punting).

Titans are actually the outlier - they have a poor win record overall but are very reliable when favourites, 61% overall and a whopping 67% of the time away (though they've only been away favourites 15 times ever). My analysis from that period was that Titans away was actually reliable money earner if you always took them, because although they didn't win often, their wins were at such large odds you ended up with a 20% return overall.

Been interesting reading the banter. Jennings deservedly has copped the brunt of selection criticism but I do believe that our centre pairing has been less than impressive. BJ for his defensive reads. Even last week, he was the one that raced out of the line and made Wightons made up to cut back in near the line and Mbye offers nothing in attack or taking early set hit ups.

I thought our attack last week lacked direction and variety. The scary bit is that I suspect they are playing to Madge’s game plan. Also the selections are starting to look a tad desperate. I fear we may be in for a very long season of disappointments and an even more controversial off season.

I get the long season of disappointment, but why the controversial off season?

Unfortunately, the prime reason is that we area club that just attracts it. More specifically, if we don’t make the finals, it will be another year of failure coupled with what is likely to be a large player movement. Look at the Mitchell saga. I don’t think he had any serious intention of coming here. If we have cash but don’t attract an appropriate marquee player - the media will ask questions.

Also Madge has a three year deal. This will be the end of the second year and no finals. Questions will be asked regarding extension or expulsion. This will also affect player recruitment.

I hope I am mistaken but the randomness of selection (E.g. Seyfarth , Benji, McIntyre etc) makes me a little nervous that he is running short of ideas.
