Was i the only one who saw Fonua make a total meal of that drop out. he aint no top 17 certainty thats for sure.

Was that the only "meal" you saw from our side against Manly ? We couldn't hold onto the ball in the first half. So why single out Fonua, from memory that was his only mistake and it wasn't an unforced error.

Overall he had a strong game and, in the trial, he was the only one of our backs that wasn't dominated by the Warriors.

Why? They dont have anyone to target with kicks now…

Manly targeted Fonua with high kicks all night and he returned the ball with interest. He ran 167 metres which was comfortably the most of any WT player.

I'm sure the Warriors would love for him to be dropped because no-one returns the ball better than him.

I'd much rather Fonua back there than a safe option who gets monstered every time they return the ball. For an example, watch our kick returns in the trial against the Warriors. It was dismal.

reynolds is an option as a backup hooker. Thompson safer option tha fonua who still needs to work on his catching….he looked uncomfortable under the high ball to me.

we just need to play the warriors the same. hold the ball, work for field position and repeat sets. no one like carrying the ball out of their own 22.

Fonua definitely has his strengths, however I couldn't in good conscience bring in Mbye and leave out the guy who scored the most tries for us last year. God forbid Mbye goes down again it would be super handy to have a guy like Thommo in the run on side to slide into the #1.

Thommo is heaps safer under the high ball and with that hopefully the Warriors look to target Jennings who has a bit more size for kick returns.

I agree. In supporting Fonua, I wasn't suggesting that Thommo should be the one to be dropped.

I still panic when kicks go to Fonua. Not sure Thompson (or anyone else) is much better against those big wingers from the warriors.

Just do what we did against the much vaunted Many pack and attack with our defence don't allow them within the 20 to put up a kick ..problem solved…simples..

I would keep Fonua and Thompson in at the expense of Jennings for this week

At least fonua had good vision to put his foot out of touch when he dropped that ball during the sea eagles game…

Can't completely agree with that - I actually think Thompson is an above-average finisher. Esp because of his size, the quality of his finishes are pretty good. He scored 9 tries in 20 games 2018, which was the most in the side (we only scored 61 tries all year. i.e. he scored 15%).

He is quite an effective scooter as well - fast on the pick up, obviously can dart, good at stepping through the line.

Definitely not as effective in hit-ups, on account of being smaller frame.

I agree he's probably a better FB than winger, but he's not as good a FB as Mbye.

Click the smile icon at the bottom of this or any post box and you should have a half dozen or so colourful icons to choose from, of which the thumbs up is one. Click on your choice and you're away.

Hope that helps.

I like Fonua.

The metres he makes are great. It's his biggest asset on the field by far.

Having hands like feet gets us into trouble at least 1-2 times a game. I question his all round reliability and consistency more than anything else.

Feel a bit sorry for Gamble. I’m not his greatest fan but where does the current predicament leave him? If Reynolds plays reggies does gamble drop to the bench? Doubt it. Maybe he plays halfback? Centre?

Thats a call for Maguire to make. It all depends on his opinion of Gamble. If he is seen as someone he wants to develop and a part of the future he may not even move him from 5/8 but if he is seen as someone in the squad who he has no plans for then theyll just shuffle him around to fill a hole here and there.
