Happy does it say how many tackles he makes compared to others because having a high completion rate means little if you are doing less tackles than others.I would rather have someone who has a high tackle count even if it is at a lower completion rate

He missed 8/233 (according to nrl.com) = 96.57%, from 12 starts, averaging 19.42 tackles per game.

I don't have his minutes, but by comparison to other benchies 2015:
Lovett - 663 tackles, 21 missed (96.62%), 21 starts, 31.86 tackles per game
Ava - 443 tackles, 11 missed (97.52%), 23 starts, 19.74 tackles per game
Hammer - 514 tackles, 30 missed (94.16%), 22 starts, 23.32 tackles per game

Thanks for the info jirskyr

Give Buchanan a chance Guys. Watch his game closely on and off the ball.

Not everyone is an out and out star and I hate how elements of this forum just bag out a certain player each season.

What sort of team do expect Taylor to pick? We're one of the weakest teams in the comp. plodders like Buchannon, Lovett and Siro are staples in mediocre teams.

Daniel Alvaro, Joe Ofahengaue, Blake Leary, Adam Elliott, Kurt Baptiste, Suaia Matagi, Jonathan Wright, Scott Bolton, Matt Prior Mitchell Frei, Zane Musgrove, Leivaha Pulu, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Christian Welch, Jake Marketo

all teams have these players….

Congrats to all the newbies, looking forward to seeing them run around in Tigers colours for the first time.

Actually I'll be in Fiji for this so just looking forward to it full stop!

The off-season has been too long. Up the Tigers!!!

Hey Raven,I'm going to Fiji in June,the Naviti on the coral coast,can you let me know if they show the NRL over there please….cheers mate....

Go the Tigers...hoping for very few injuries this year so we don't have to swap and change players into different positions every week....

Pretty sure they do mate. I've already gathered some intell & apparently the Hard Rock Cafe on Denarua Island is the place to be for footy.

Up the Tigers!!

Perhaps just needed to get past this first team list for the reality of our situation to sink in, and our expectations to be lowered accordingly.

No need to be disappointed after a loss now, but every reason to enjoy any successes…

Ink raises a good point..All teams have plodders (what a buzz word)..I think we need to come up with some sort of scale to rate the plodders..ie Our Plodders are better or worse than your Plodders or something like that…Or how many times you can use the word Plodders in a post...who knows we could start a Plodder revolution...

A ball hasn't been kicked in anger yet...Lovett was good in the trials and Buchanan at least has 1st Grade experience..we won't win or loose because they are in the team...it's a team game..we'll loose if we can't control the football and miss a zillion tackles...

edit: my maths was all wrong

Good idea Geo.

I suggest rating plodders at one of 4 levels - A thru E.

Easiest way to accomplish is to rate them out of 5 for the key plodder indicators (KPIs) and grade into which bracket of 5 they fall, out of 25 (Plodder Grade E 0-5, Grade D 6-10, Grade C 11-15, Grade B 16-20, Grade A 21+).
\
\
For example, Buchanan:
explosiveness = 2/5
speed = 1/5
girth = 5/5
wrongness of head = 4/5
games played vs overall ability = 3/5
TOTAL = 15/20 = Plodder Grade C (an "upper C", if you will)

Interesting all us "Keyboard Warriors" are labelling our players as "Plodders".

Buchanan has played 38 NRL games including 12 from last year.

We need experience so happy to go with him and Lovett to prove their worth.

Buchannan is only 23 years old and can defend.

Kee Cham should be in the 17 given he can play a number of positions.

Hope the new players do us proud in the WT colours.

Hope Jessie carves up in State Cup to push for NRL selections.

There should be no expectations really. Had we been making the finals past ten years on a consistent basis and/or been able to recruit top class players this year I could understand having an expectation of improvement or even higher. But given the circumstances I think we need to just to look at each game in the hope that we will win. That's what I do and I tend to find the games much more enjoyable although losing certainly diminishes that enjoyment to a degree.

Let me be an argumentative jerk and say …

I would take all of these players over Lovett and Buchanan with the exception of J Wright and A Elliott but only the latter because he hasn't played first grade yet so how could you criticise the kid, he might be awesome?

Elliott is a St Gregs kid too and was captain of Wests Harold Matts and SG Ball I think?

You can't really add the most highly regarded young prop in the game in Ofahengaue with those others. Far from a plodder, but yes still young and cementing his spot in a highly competitive Broncos pack.

Half of those players would walk onto our bench, the other half i've never even heard of.

There is little argument that this is probably the best 18 man squad we can field this week. Sure Lovett and Buchanan aren't my first choice, however lets face it we don't have better FG options at this point in time. I have not been a big fan of either of them, but I too noticed some intent and hunger in Lovett during the trials - so I am hoping he is lifting his game. As for Jack, I would think that when Edwards comes good he will come in to the side at 13 and Sue will be the 4th prop. MCK looks a good option on the bench but Halatau probably needs a spot to cover dummy half. Maybe Lovett's bench spot could be the one.

My bigger concern for this opener is that Brooks has looked good and really lifted the team in attack when he has come on during the trial period. Whether JLJ can fill that void remains to be seen. Rankin has a tough intro as well. No interchange for Cherrington could hurt us badly as I'm not sure he can handle the Warriors big forwards for 80.

All in all - I think we are going to struggle but as long as the effort is there you never know. The Warriors can be anything on any given day so let's hope it's not one of their magical days!!
