Wests Tigers trying to lure $400m car baron Neville Crichton to Concord

@Tiger_Steve if he’s on the board can’t help with TPA’s - which is where we need help. Shouldn’t sell board seats to a dogs sponsor anyway

What ever happened to the Tigers relationship with the $10 billion Mr Harry "Meriton" Triguboff? We had at one stage a top 5 wealthiest person in Australia in our corner. He is currently Australia's 2nd wealthiest. I always wondered why the Tigers never amounted to anything out of that.

@mike Are you feeling ok? If its legit and essentially a stable cash injection to the club, its an absolute no brainer and could be an absolute game changer for the Tigers over the next decade....

I am feeling fine, thanks for asking. Once fooled shame on them, twice fooled shame on me. Personally anything todo with BE I would steer clear of by a very long way. Game changer, maybe but I wouldn’t be so quick to give it the thumbs up. I’d want to know a lot more of the details before I would even begin to feel comfortable and even then I would still have doubts. It will take a very long time and some solid, meaning large with no strings attached, cash injections before earning my trust.

@WT2019 I totally agree.
The current Board have served their time.
Now time to introduce new blood, in particular those with a proven commercial background.
There are capable candidates ready to step up if given the chance and have ideas consistent with today, and not stuck still in the 80's.

didn't he get fed up with all the squabbling? He offered to buy the club and run it but the powerbrokers and their factions didn't want to give up their piece of the empire...
From memory harry said something along the lines of "If I own the club then I run the club and don't need anybody else's input" or something like that

Absolutley, but are they willing to do it?
I dont mind old backoor brokering the deal but dont give him any stake in the club or position of power. This could be something big, well done to Pascoe.

Sponsoring dogs was his 2nd option

100% mate. I don’t know about Harry T but I know Jaycar wanted board influence. It may be that our board have twice rejected incredible money and business experience to keep control.
Let’s hope we don’t get the trifecta!

@Tiger_Steve May also be that they don’t think someone should buy their way in, or the deal wasn’t good enough. Brydens sponsored us and many other clubs...where was Jaycar? A shorts sponsor, a tpa provider? Even Mr T sponsored us for a few years. At the roosters Cronk has at least one tpa I know of for 300k and they didn’t even want a say

All valid points mate. I’m not pretending to know the whole story. All I know (maybe a bit more) is there was an opportunity for a tremendous injection of cash. I suppose that when successful people offer involvement there is always an upside for them. For Jaycar that might have been influence to correct the wrongs of poor business management in the past.

@Tiger_Steve fair play mate. I’d hazard a guess that it wasn’t enough cash. We need ground upgrades and a coe. Hundreds of millions, need govt support for us to get on the right track. The grange guy got us half way I reckon.

My biggest bug bear is that Mr T could sort out the players with some property investment “advice” to some big name players. Odds on Politis gives investment advice for free when his venture capitol business sees something interesting. Advice is free, not taxable and probably goes hand in hand with a golf game or 2.

Hopefully benny’s boy has a terrible golf game as well

@TYGA no joke . What happened to Harry?

Quoting him he won’t deal with losers. These people won’t get involved without a say. It’s simple.

Pretty sure he is still putting money in, he paid for some work at Concord not so long ago. The problem is the NRL won’t allow him to provide TPA’s.

He said from the start he would sponsor the club until they found a better deal as he never got anything from it. Most of his buyers are in China and never heard of Wests Tigers. We got a better off from Brydens so he moved aside.

I wouldnt feed our current board including Fatty O'Barrell.Wests Ashfield top up our NRL grant but its time they looked out of the square and allowed external business accumen to turn this club into what we all hope and want it to be.There are business men who want us to be the amongst the biggest powerhouses in Sydney.
The future of our club lies without and not within and it is my hope that our club realises this and acts accordingly.Every club in every sport which is a success in the world has strong backing. We could be far more powerful than than the rorters if we get it right but that means giving control to people who know how to succeed.
Yes i am inebriated a good bottle of red does that but we need change at the admin level to get to the top. With our supporter base we should be the number 1 club in Sydney

Also don't forget that Wests Leagues and the ghost of Balmain Leagues own the Wests Tigers, and have a mandate to fund and run the club. They don't actually have to sell or submit to any particular business people for the club to operate.

The club is sufficiently funded by the Leagues clubs and the NRL grants, and we operate under a salary cap. To that extent, we don't really need nbew ownership and there is a big question mark whether we want large influence from specific businesspersons.

The Leagues Clubs are organisations, not individuals.

For whatever success this car bloke or Uncle Harry have in their personal fields, that does not necessarily translate to rugby league smarts. E.g. for all Rusty Crowe's passion, it's his star power and not his footy smarts that are a drawcard for Souths.

I'm not saying "don't do it", but I can understand the reluctance of giving significant control over to a business person. For every success story there is more than one Nathan Tinkler. And what if the business person gets bored, or radical, or the club becomes their plaything?

I fully understand what you are saying but is the status quo working for us at the moment? Or has it been a success in the past? The answer in not a positive one in my mind and we need to shake it up.Before our JV neither club was a massive success and we need to turn it around, imo drastic measures are called for. There is no doubt someone like Tinkler would be a total disaster for us (Clive Palmer would be even worse) but a new direction is required
