See trying to turn this into a what about them argument. That is usually done as a form of deflection when you can't argue the point.
No. it really isnt.

I am blatantly arguing the point. The point being, HBG wasnt so dysfunctional that they were there to ensure the survival of the football club. What part of that isnt clear?
The entire ownership group is dysfunctional, Balmain included. This is not Balmain v Magpies, no matter how hard you try to frame it in that manner.
The Balmain board has been dysfunctional for 20 years. I have laughed time and time again at their uselessness. This isnt a "them vs "us" - but you keep saying that clubs rely on pokie revenues.... well, the board at Balmain were even good at that.

When a board has had to remove over 40% of its directors, there are serious issues at a governance level. I don't think that can be denied.

I think HBG have realised that there was an issue. TBH its taken great balls to do what they have done. But at least they did do that before it destroyed the business.....

I don't believe i have ever made the argument that they rely on pokies.

Balmain has been a mess for a long long time, The Magpies and the HBG aren't doing any better.

Once we get truly independent directors appointed I am happy for the ownership groups to do whatever they want.

If the HBG got rid of the debenture system i would be happy with them having full ownership.

The board of HBG has caved to pressure. None of what Romero has just done was about the best thing for anybody but herself. Iv got no doubt they were planning to roll back on the review before everyone rolled on them.

This is the biggest non argument in the history of non arguments.

Until a few folk before xmas started talking about the debenture system, no one outside the leagues club membership had an idea what the debenture system was.

It's just being used as an excuse for a rant against the football club and its owner.

.....and yet the board agreed to follow the review back in 2023. Your opinion doesn't stack up against the facts

It does seem old school though.

I have known about it for years and have discussed it on here and on podcasts for a long time.

So you actually agree with the debenture system and think it represents good governance?

Or are you just upset because HBG are being criticised?

Yours is a pathetic hybrid "ignorance is bliss"/"if it ain't broke - don't fix it" argument!

The legacy debenture holders have bugger all personal capital/financial outlay in the current HBG assets (in particluar Wests Tigers Football Club) - but continue to wield a grossly disproportionate influence on BOTH Boards!

Their performances on the Wests Tigers Board and the decline of the WT franchise under their tenure has clearly deomonstrated that the undemocratic debenture system (where ALL REAL power is held by 16 faceless debenture holders of which I assume you are either one or closely associated) is indeed BROKE and needs fixing!

If their paternal custodianship of the Wests Tigers club had achieved positive results on-field then the debenture structure would not be an issue to the fanbase - but their blindness to the failings of the WT front office and ongoing support of Pascoe and Hagipantelis prior to the independent review is all the evidence anyone needs of their rank incompetence and vested interests!

Grow up!

The accusation is that HBG commissioned the review then didn't like at least some of its conclusions, specifically the ones relating to the idea that the whole joint was being run by a bunch of clowns, and therefore proceeded to selectively implement the review. The pretty clear implication is that HBG are such dum dums that they assumed no review would ever dare suggest they aren't up to it or, worse, that there would be no grounds for such a conclusion.

You don't get points for commissioning a review, you get points for implementing its conclusions without fear or favour. Lots of people talk to the cops because they think they're too smart to get caught out. Doesn't make them innocent.

How in gods name does such a closed shop ensure quality people are running the joint? No chance.

How has it been for you since Richo joined? Have you enjoyed his leadership?

What did you make of the podcast last week and the 'happy family'?

Like I've said before, the leagues club has been incredibly successful over the years.

Compare that with the elected board at Balmain Leagues Club. Look at the mess they made of bankrupting the joint.

It's irrelevant what you and I think of the board setup, unless we are fully paid up members of the leagues club

I have answered this for you on Facebook already, if you want to see the review, you will need to contact the HBG as it is their review and their decision who they share it with.
