Solid performance in defence ......Joey Leilua looks good....no one looked out of place

How will this trial game translate into Rd 1..?

Depends what 17 Madge names .....

Lets say for argument sake it's the starting 17 from today with Doueihi at FB and Thompson on 1 wing and Musgrove on the bench..

#5 Jennings or Nof Geo? Who do u think

Nofoaluma/BJ...Thompson/Mbye for me...

Jennings looks a lot better this year but don't think he gets involved enough..sure when the ball comes his way but you hardly ever see him coming in looking for it which Thompson and Nofoaluma both do to take pressure off the forwards..

Absolutely agree with that on today’s game... but must say he looked solid, bled for the cause, and made as many or more post contact metres as Nof/Corey combined when I saw him carry (1st half admittedly)... Think losing Mbye early who he would’ve been working with on combinations all week and the early mistake where we should’ve kept the ball but ended up in touch caused him to shy away from overplaying too

Could’ve just as easily been two tries today to Jennings - with Momirovski inside him?

Reynolds added alround speed, must be 9.Cheekam is a born centre and should be given a chance in that position because thats where we are weak.Thommo is still best at 1.
Doeihi on wing or bench.Forwards a little green but showed great promise .Worst referee since Gomersoll in State of Origin years ago

You can argue Noffa made a bad read, but he made up for that with two tries, some strong runs and some good offloads. Plus him and BJ playing together is mouth watering. Got a good taste of it today.

How's for years it's looked at times that our centre doesn't trust the winger...

BJ looked like he trusted his man and put him through twice.

Gonna be a great combo much like BJ and Rapana in the past.

Disagree with everything in the post.

Love the tigers but i really Think Warriors Will be close to wooden spoon this year...Musgrove Micaele Garner all looked stronger...Twal is tough,,, make up off bench is a lottery,,,if Walters is 9 I don’t think he can last the 80mins..Bj what a presence , A big human hopefully he can take right option more often then not,

Zane Musgrove

10 runs for 122m
40 post contact metres (team high)
18 tackles (0 missed)

Elijah Taylor to starting 13
Aloiai, bench.

🔥🔥🔥

I do like seeing ET come on later in the game as he can control tired forwards very well with his defence. But am sure he would do a good job either way.

Considering our lack of ball in the first half it was very encouraging.Defensive pattern seemed far more solid than usual and we didnt need to rely upon scrambling as much as we normaly do.
Still its only a trial so i cant get too excited. We defend like that during the season and i will be satisfied

Yeah, it was a trial against the Warriors let's not get carried away.

I would agree on most of this, but the proximity to both touch and try line were used terribly in this instance for mine and there was no need to rush up. I often stand up for Nofo and he is often incorrectly maligned, but he wears the blame from me on this occasion.

This is why it was important to mention the gap created by the immobile defender inside BJ. Regardless of what the outside backs did they could easily have scored on the inside of BJ.

If memory serves correctly Benji often defends at A when close to the line. Because he's marker he obviously couldn't be at A as well. My suspicion is someone behind the ruck was a little lazy when they should have been filling the gap where Benji normally defends. Having Thommo at marker added to the problem - we lost our A defender and cover in one ruck.

I can’t agree with anything in that post. Particularly the use of Reynolds at 9. His passes were soft and late, giving no time or space for our offensive line .

But Nof holding gives us the time to scramble... just compare say what a B Moz would’ve atleast tried to do in that situation, and there’s how Madge would expect him to behave.

He literally moved in as the pass was thrown and didn’t bother to jam the centre as you mentioned quickly enough. It’s what separates good from great but supposed your argument is still valid and he may have an excuse on just this occasion. Needs to be conscious of it all year.

My instructions as coach would be everytime BJ gets the ball I want players inside and out pushing to support him.
This is where we want Tomo supporting back on the inside so BJ has options to get that lethal offload away after he's drawn 3 defenders to him, he's the modern day version of Mal Meninga

Post is nonsense bra.
Not even worth a reply other than to point out how ridiculous it is.

I thought all the new recruits showed plenty of promise. The Leilua brothers outstanding. Zane Muzgrove attracted a lot of interest from warriors defence.

I agree, thought all our new buys looked really good.

Despite the 2 tries we can't have Nofo with his terrible defensive reads on the wing, I've seen it too many times to ignore it now, he obviously hasn't improved that part of his game .

I see this sort of comment a lot and it makes me go and take a second look.

Here's the play the ball, you can see the ruck marked and make note that Thommo has been involved in the tackle so can't be expected to cover if we slide in. Note the lines showing defenders numbered against attacker - we are already a man down - they have an overlap.

Forward a few seconds and see this.
![nofo.jpg](/assets/uploads/files/1583031979161-nofo.jpg)

One of the keys here is the player marking the attacking (decoy) runner is flat-footed (circled). This means he is no chance of shifting out to support. Note also this has created a gap between him and BJ.

This leave Joey and Nofo left to defend three (which they can't do) and a gap inside you could drive a car through. Nofo (I believe correctly) comes in to try and kill the play at the centre but the ball goes wide and they score.

It was a simple overlap right from the ruck - I'm not sure why the winger is blamed for it.

I'm happy to deride players when they do the wrong thing but too often people's personal dislikes for a players get in the way of reasoned analysis.

Outside this, I thought BJ went well but has a tendency to hold the ball too long. Musgrove was impressive and I was very impressed with Luciano - he could turn out to be a great buy.

I thought Grub looked solid in the halves and showed slightly better form at hooker than previous games. Walters service is great but he's a little light in defence. I don't think we had a bad player, everyone went pretty well.

There’s no defending Nofa there mate. Regardless of a 3 on 2 rushing up past the ball and tackling no one is a poor play. He needs to stay in the defensive line and slide across, much bigger chance of defending the try doing that And Joey didn’t look happy with him after it.

it is always the same with Nofo and has been for his entire career he leaves his wing.
Years ago we blame centre A then centre B now J Leiluia sick of it.
The guy scores good tries buts lets a few in.
Please Madge lets start 2020 something different Thomo and Jennings see if they defend better
