If you look at my past posts you will see I have said a few times we don’t stand for anything. That’s why it’s so hard to build a culture, because nobody knows what to draw on. Hate to sound like a broken record but............1 home ground would be a big start.

What would you like us to stand for?

Well, in an obvious word....success. But its so much more than that. Some issues are being dealt with while others are continuing to just chug along. I want players to look at our club and WANT to come here, not because we have to pay overs but because to play for Wests Tigers means your playing footy for a club that prides itself on turning average players into good/great players, are a regular top 8 club and prepare you for life after football.
I want parents to look at their kids who are talented and be over the moon that among the clubs that are interested in them is ours, because they know the Wests Tigers system will do the right thing by their kids and they will have a great chance to be successful at our club.
I want a club that treats it's departing players much better than ours has in the last few weeks. I heard Madge say "once a Wests Tiger always a Wests Tiger" well believe me, there are a couple of departing players whose lasting memory will be the dreadful way they have been treated by the club in the last couple of weeks. If management wants honesty and accountability from the players then they need to be honest and accountable with the players. Its a 2 way street.( i will not elaborate further)
You know the dread that comes in playing a lot of clubs at their home grounds, how tough they are going to be to beat there, i want our club to have that too. I don't care which ground it is. Our members, supporters and the players deserve to feel like we have a "home" so to speak.

I think the great struggle for our club is when you go back through our history as Wests Tigers, it is mostly one of mediocrity. We have had some dreadful, dreadful people and players through this club. There has obviously been some bloody good ones too, so it's not all doom and gloom. The problem is we kind of need to be successful to build that culture and i think Madge knows that. He also knows that its going to have to come from a new wave of kids with some old heads thrown in.
I have often heard Trent Robinson refer to "the Rooster way" and thought what a wank, but then i think about the "Wests Tigers way" and if you looked at the last decade, it's not a "way" you would want to be associated with.
In the end, ive crapped on and on and i apologise for that, but i want our club to stand for it's people and be known as a professional slick, well run and successful place to play footy. The envy of others.

Mission statements are hollow words issued by people who have no idea apart from a belief that an ideology will fix everything.
I'm not a communist and I'm not having a shot at religious people but do like Marx's words - 'Religion is the opiate of the masses' - mission statements are the same. Hollow, meaningless words.
A better fix is to a put together a team with a goal and the will to work together to achieve it.

When mission statements became popular every organisation had to have one framed on their wall. And because it required a little candid honesty in the wording many MS became bland with obscured meaning. The real opiate of the masses is a common goal. And in reality a true mission statement is (or should be) a goal with a description of the how.

This is an area that I am really interested in, I often wonder if the club sees itself in the same way the supporters do,

I see us as a middle of the road club that doesn't really know what it represents, be that a geographical area or a set of values or identity. What identity do we have? Maybe it is due to our young age as a club but I don't know what we stand for.

What would I like to see as our values?
A professional team that never gives up, is committed, that fights for every inch, every win. A team that values its supporter base and shows this regularly. Players that would bleed for the club, that believes in the club, that fights for the club. A united identity, that respects its past but is not held back by it. A team and club that fights to win every moment on and off the field.

Thats interesting because i see those as the values of the 2 foundation clubs that became the JV. Both clubs were battlers from the hard working classes of inner Sydney. Balmain owned that inner west harbour area. The community backed them. Wests had to change locations 3 times yet each time they were accepted by those communities and still showed the fighting spirit they were renowned for. Even when both clubs were down and out other teams still knew they were in for hard day on the field. I don't see any of these qualities in this team. Maybe its just a sign of the times. The passion has changed from playing football to making money.

Another failed year at the mighty Wests Tigers got me thinking what this Club actually stands for..

What are the core values of Wests Tigers..?

I'm not even sure they know themselves

What does the Club define itself as..?

Why should we bother being a member..?

What is our Mission Statement?

Please outline our Strategic Plan for the next 5 years

What are our core values?

Have you worked at a company with these ideas in place ? I have for years. I think it's pointless.

As for who we are. We a first grade rugby league team that represents a large area based in and around Sydney.

Winning isn't easy. I just think we need to execute better on and off the field. We should try and recruit guys who are good people and who can play disciplined footy. It's up to the club to put in place good processes and people in place to manage the team on a day to day basis as well as recruitment and retention.

I think we are doing that at the moment. I'm optimistic about our future.

Yep. Forget all that nonsense. Just get a team on the park who have the talent, are well coached and disciplined and we will give the comp a shot.

Sure have, I don’t think they are pointless at all or at least they shouldn’t be. If they are then that’s a failure of management for not aligning themselves with business objectives.

WEST TIGERS WHO ARE WE

We are one of the 16 teams in the NRL only one of which can win the competition. We are a team that if the merger hadn't taken place one or even both could have possibly disappeared.
We are a team that for many years were hamstrung by petty jealousy by dinosaur board members
We are team that made some poor decisions in regard to coaching but sometimes who have to take who is available
We are a team that now has a stable board in place and have appointed a GOOD coach who is getting the place back in order.
We are team that is now developing our junior talent.
We are a team that its supporters will be proud of and can support whole heartedly.
WE ARE WESTS TIGERS LOVE US OR LEAVE US

Amazing how there r things are fluff to teams that win more often yhan not

Is this really true ? Like I said I've worked in an environment where all that stuff exists and I've seen it do a lot of harm. You need good processes and you need good people.

I don't believe mission statements or anything like that turn around an organization. I bet most teams follow the same approach. The team that wins has the best players and some luck go their way.

Positive statements :+1:

‘About Penrith Panthers’
Built on a foundation of hard work and determination, Panthers strives to serve its community and deliver excellence on and off the field.

‘About Sydney Roosters’
The Sydney Roosters, affectionately known as Easts, is the only Foundation Club remaining to have completed in every professional season since 1908. The Roosters have won 15 Premierships with the first in 1911 and the most recent with back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019. The Sydney Roosters are also the most successful team in World Club Challenge history, currently holding 5 World Championships.

The Rabbitohs don’t have an ‘about statement’ this however is their corporate message

“Whether it be through our business to business network, attachment to our transformational community programs or association with the most-loved club in the NRL; we want the Rabbitohs to be a vehicle for your business to grow and succeed.”
– Blake Solly

***“Every year we strive and have the single and only aim of winning a competition, and if we don’t do that, it’s been a fail in regards to what our objectives are at the start of the year,” he said.***

Let's cut to the chase.

The current CEO has made absolutely no progress towards this goal in five years.

Forget winning a premiership, during his time we haven't even finished in the top half of the ladder.

The fans are dished up a lot of excuses and self-serving PR about balancing the books and growing membership.

All this says is that we have a CEO who is good on the commercial side but can't build a footy club that can sustain a competitive roster every season through recruitment and development.

In the words of an experienced NRL administrator "winning is good for business".

The board need to bring in someone independent that knows how to run a footy club to do a full assessment on how we can improve.

As it stands, the lack of recruitment or development for 2021 should be ringing alarm bells for anyone who really cares about our club.

I think our core values are failing. No team has failed as much as us in the past 9 years. Since we became a merged entity we've been worse than half the comp for 18 out of 21 years.

I don't know how out of 25 odd teams in the past 30 years, I managed to follow the worst of the lot.

‘About Parramatta Eels’
The Parramatta Eels are proud to be a first class sports organisation integral to the growth and development of Western Sydney. In 2018, we will work with Parramatta Leagues Club to strategically invest over $1 million into the community. I’ve often believed that CFO is a much better position for Justin Pascoe. He can be the string puller as his obviously got the technical nouns but as the face of the club I believe we’d be better served with a less Business type.

‘About Canterbury Bulldogs’
Canterbury has been a pioneer in the new professionalism of rugby league. They were the most successful club of the 1980s, a colossus in the toughest rugby league arena in the world. The club has won eight premierships and entered the competition in the 1935 season.
