What if the Magpies were the sole NSw Cup side?

Wests Campbelltown Leagues, Campbelltown Council and 99.9% of the Macarthur Community who support the joint venture only care about the Wests Tigers as a entity on it's own.

Yes the Wests Tigers need a bigger presence in the area but that can only be achieved by playing more games at Campbelltown.

Hopefully the new commission brings in a national reserve grade competition to replace the U20s as the structure of the game at the moment is totally wrong.

I would like to see -

National Comps
Wests Tigers NRL
Wests Tigers Reserve Grade
been fed by -
State Comps
Wests Magpies & Balmain Tigers - Jersey Flegg U20s or U23s
Wests Magpies & Balmain Tigers - SG Ball u18s
Wests Magpies & Balmain Tigers - Harold Mathews u16s

i doubt they would split up the wt under 20s team into wests and balmain

Hmmmm…..yes and no.

Yes, they want the Wests Tigers playing at Campbelltown.

No because I am pretty sure Wests Leagues Campbelltown wants an NRL team playing at Campbelltown permanently and preferably named "Macarthur". Essentially a clean break from Wests Tigers and Western Suburbs and an NRL tea, from the area with its own identity.

Wests Tigers wouldn't have a Under 20s team if it wasn't a national competition.

yeah i know. i thought they would keep the under 20s as a national comp though

Can you see that ever happening though???

Of course not, but it is one of the issues that drives a wedge within the wests group. Wests campbelltown looks after its best interests which do not always align to those of ashfield and the football club.

Not sure if you know or remember, but they wanted the team renamed the Macarthur magpies in the early and mid 90's but wests would not let go.

I do remember the name debate. I also remember when wests campbelltown was owned and run by wests ashfield. It may deserve its owb forum thread, but keeping everything in mind - what is a realistic solution for the campbelltown area for rugby league? Keep in mind that bulldogs and roosters are knocking on the door..

Every club pinches players from every area it cant be helped you cant keep them all when they progress through the juniors…..I agree with staks on this one.

Yes true. I mean as in games and a presence in the area. Perhaps 6 games at campbelltown with 2 at sfs and 4 at leichahardt

Roosters were going to build a club out at Camden or something? There was no talk about them taking over the juniors (in Group 6 I guess) was there?

Hold on a second. While WT probably need to do more in Campbelltown, how does it work out that Wests Campbelltown contribute 1/6 of the funds to the joint venture, yet gain 1/2 of the games/exposure?

This is getting off topic again, as the issue here is that Wests (Football Club, which is aligned to Wests Ashfield) have now gone about actions deliberately hurting WT, and need to provide an acceptable explanation as to why they have done this, and if they truly want to be in the joint venture? If Campbelltown (who control the juniors BTW - the junior league has a significantly fractured relationship with Ashfield and the football club, with the junior reps basically being held together by WT) could buy out Ashfield and the Football Club's share, then we should have half the games/exposure to Campbelltown.

The wests internal debacles dont help the cause. It needs a revamp to sort it all out. For both WT, campbelltown junior league and the legacy of the magpies.

I can't understand how Wests would contemplate a joint-venture with Canberra or St George as if it were second nature, yet when asked by their joint-venture partners in the first grade competition it is an attempt to kill off their club?

If this is the case, and Wests have gone off by themselves and negotiated a deal with a competitor behind the backs of Wests Tigers and Balmain Tigers, they have acted disgracefully in my opinion. There is no logic in helping strengthen the competition in St George, allowing them to use their extra money on FG, giving them a competitive advantage over the Wests Tigers club. To be honest, it says to me that they have no respect for the joint venture and their joint venture partners.

Looks like that Canberra will be using Mounties and St George will be using either Illawarra Steelers or Wests Wollongong in 2012.

No idea why people keep bringing up that Wests will look at other clubs for NRL players. Good bait though… keep up the good work :nerd:

Staks are they revamping the nsw cup comp?

In my opinion if you have a nrl team they should also make you field a nsw cup team.

Dunno what the latest is but the NSWRL always wanted each NSW based NRL team to have a State Cup team. Some clubs don't see this as important though.

I guess it depends what the new IC wants and what they decide to do with the NYC.

I'd rather see a national reserve grade or a national U23s competition as the tier below the NRL.

Do you include Queensland teams in that?

Would be nice yoss but probably not cost effective but then again the nz team do so why not.

Lets hope they do something with this comp.
