Where do we go now?

One thing we could do if anyone needs end of season surgery (almost half the team has heavy strapping on). Get it done now.

Perhaps we can send a couple of others, find a favourable Dr who will amputate and then seek medical retirement.

It all comes back to the scruffy guy who signed off on these ridiculous player contracts, he has a lot to answer for

This endless fascination with the CEO's involvement in player recruitment, I don't get it. You don't hook a CEO because of player recruitment and performance, that's not his job.

CEO is just the bloke who signs off the contracts, he's not personally recruiting players and personally deciding who stays and who goes. At most he is part of a committee that makes those decisions.

You look at Joe Kelly, he has been Roosters CEO since April 2017. I bet 99% of you couldn't even point to him in a lineup. Is he making the recruitment decisions over at Easts? Is he responsible for getting Tedesco across the line?

Joe Kelly was previously CEO of Manly 2015-2016 and they missed the finals both seasons, after finishing 2nd the season before he started. He was suspended for 12 months for being involved in Manly's salary cap breach.

Prior to being Manly CEO he was CFO of Souths for 7 years and before that he was at Chelsea in the EPL.

So as CEO, what precisely is Joe Kelly's involvement in the player recruitment and does he get the chop if Roosters have a bad signing? Did he get the chop for Manly's bad run of seasons? No actually he ended up getting a gig with one of the competition heavyweights.

Need new halves, its as simple as that.

Our forwards have improved so much since last year. The forwards get us down the field then there is NO attack. NOTHING. It is set up with field position then brooks gets the ball and has no idea what to do.

Ive said it before and i'll say it again (broken record) The club doesn't stand for anything! We are Rugby Leagues nomads and until we change that we will keep getting the same culture over and over and over......

I just see that as another excuse for players not performing well enough. You can can blame culture, accepting mediocrity etc but the roster is not good enough to compete consistently against better ones - and there are arguably at least eight of those.
No team with Packer, Reynolds, Mybe - and have to add Brooks in his current form - as their biggest money earners could considered top eight standard in 2020.
Under the same home ground circumstances in 2005/10/11 We had a team of players that competed and achieved a level of success - then we we entered the aftermath of salary cap stuff up orchestrated by Humphries/Sheens, board division, and series of unfortunate events all too well discussed over and over again.
We are now financially sound, we havnt had any stability since Sheens to build a decent roster and Cleary left us with another road block to overcome hence our current predicament - that's how I see it.

Its not an excuse at all. This club needed (and i believe Madge knows it and is trying to achieve it) gutting. The teams you speak of had some great juniors come through and for some reason those junior systems were allowed to fade away which in the end has resulted in mediocre signings and a constant desire to change the coach when things haven't gone well. Its taken until the last 18 months for recognition that our junior system had gone to poo and Madge and Hartigan are setting about changing it, hence the reason for constant signings of highly thought of young recruits. We have a junior system as alluded to by another forum member that is the 3rd biggest in NSW, yet so many of those kids go elsewhere. They don't want to play for Wests Tigers. Now why would that be? Maybe it is because the club is owned by Ashfield which i have no issue with, is based at Concord, plays some games at Leichhardt, some at Campbelltown and some in Parramatta.
If you're a young kid coming through in say Parra or Penrith juniors, then what is the attraction to leave those clubs and play for Wests Tigers? It could only be opportunity or money, because there is absolutely nothing in our recent history with our reputation as a perennial basket case that is attractive. So ive asked the question, what do we as a club stand for? If i'm a 20 year old kid the answer to that is not about a club steeped in the tradition and culture of two once proud clubs standing together, because at 20, i couldn't give a flying you know what about Wests or Balmain and ive only ever known Wests Tigers and let me tell you, that tradition, history and culture doesn't look so good.

Yes! No doubt that we need to turn around the poor junior recruiting for the mid to long term.
For the short term, nothing less than signing a couple of influential players - 'winners' - from successful clubs will turn anything much around in a hurry.
I know we don't have the coin right now but the club must keep in the forefront our need to sign resilient winning players that can help the staff give all our young blokes the mindset required for mental toughness on the field. It MUST be a priority to identify these players and work on getting them over here in the next couple of seasons.
It's far more important than trying to lure a single player like JAC back on top money... which will generate plenty of fluff pieces off the field but how much influence on it?

Our forwards are the softest in the Nrl , our halves suck , we have no speed , no goalkicker and no ticker .the only way is up from here ?

You've summed it up perfectly. But Madge still thinks we're a top 8 side? Do you think he knows the truth now?

How do you know he thinks we are a top 8 side?

He says it repeatedly at press conferences and other media spots. Are you suggesting he is being dishonest in his comments?

What coach is going to come out and say that they are not a top 8 side?

You asked how I know what Maguire thinks and I told you it's because I listen to what he says repeatedly.

I guess in your world 50% of coaches are liars

very concise, but accurate description....
what gets me is we have no kick chase on our bombs....whether they are on the line, or 20m short...we need to pressure kicks.....

Don't tell @Tiger-Tragic lol. I don't know what coach would come out and say in a press conference or media session that their side isn't a top 8 side. Sure fire way to lose support.

Man, you keep missing the point. You asked me how "I know" and I told you .... I assume you have bothered to look at his media releases and press conferences etc??

So, if it's not on the basis of publicly available and regular media comments by the Coach, how do you "know" what he is really thinking?

All I am saying is if he doesn't think they are a top 8 team, he is not going to say that in a press conference, no coach would. He may have believed that at the start of the year but it goes against everything a coach is to come out and say that.

Surley now we blood Madden and Simpkin and start looking towards next year

I would be reluctant to do that when they haven't played any football for pretty much 12 months.

Not both at once ....Liddle needs lots of footy and with the news Harry think's he is back next week maybe Madden off the bench for the last 5 weeks

I think its hard to drop a young player into a side, that is performing poorly, to debut when he hasn't played in 12 months.

If things are going crap you leave him on the bench and let the 16 muddleheads suffer by themselves

Great plan.

See paws you cause your own angst when it comes to Brooks...in that post the fault lies clearly in the players mentioned and Brooks was not mentioned,he had a good game from all reports ,however it comes back to my arguement once again as I have said many times before....Benji stifles Lukes game and it was on show again against the Rorters....I wont change my opinion in that regard no matter how many people tell me I have it in for Brooks and Marshall....until we have a roster cleanout and the aged legend finally retires ,then we are a chance of progressing to finals football...
