Who Should Be Our Coach Next Season?

Boys, we desperately need someone with passion. Look at all the good coaches , they are all hard asses. Bennett,Bellamy, toovey, hasler etc nobody messes with them and they get massive respect from the playing group and in most circumstances come up with the goods. We've got a pushover here, if you have ever seen him in a post match I'm sure you will agree, he doesn't even question anything , all he says is "is that all guys" the bloke has no confidence and all he wants to do is get out of there.

This whole situation is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that apparently we have to make the finals for Potter to continue is laughable. Firstly, we have now had 2 years from hell with injuries. How would Storm go without Slater, Chambers, Cronk or Manly without Stewart, Lyons, Foran or Cherry-Evans and so on.

But that is the whole point !
We do something very WRONG. Every year it's injury after injury.

It's more than just bad luck. Something is not right in Wests Tigers town.

What do we put that down to? Poor training facilities, poor training regime? Both?

It has been suggested by forum members who are S&C specialists themselves that our S&C team is not so crash hot…
Lower than standard quals, questionable training routines etc etc

Winning starts at the front office! WT Front office (the Board) has been a mess from day one.
I like Potter but I don't think he firm enough or has the right game plan to win.
Injuries have killed us our the past 2 years. This is because we have a lot of kids playing ATM, their bodies are not ready for the riggers of NRL. Remember Benji in his early years, always injured.

Generally speaking I think the list put forward is pretty pathetic.

If you sack your existing coach without poaching a good coach from elsewhere you're going to be scraping the barrel unfortunately.

Actually there is one I totally forgot and that's Neil Henry. Apparently we're linked with him and he's not actually signed to coach Goldy next year yet (though it's mostly likely he will be).

Guys I don't have a preference but I must say potter must go. On sat night I saw a shot of the roosters dressing room and there coach was laying down the law. Then the camera showed the tigers dressing room and there was pottsy sitting there not saying a word. We were 8 nil down at the time and the coach couldn't think of something to say? Please, this bloke shows no passion or it seems interest at all. No wonder we are playing like we don't care cos it seem the coach doesn't. I've never seen the bloke even raise a sweat let alone show any emotion.

Yep 100% agree. I was a fan of Potter at first, but as time has gone on the thing that got to me was his lack of passion. I like the fact that when the Storm play they always pan over to Craig Bellamy yelling and carrying on, same with Des Hasler. It shows how much they care, and as a player you'd be scared as hell to let a coach like that down… with Potter he doesn't have that effect. He doesn't have that presence that you wouldn't be worried if you let him down because he wouldn't give it to you.

I think moving forward we need a coach that isn't going to let players get away with what they have been getting away with over the years.

I don't have a preference but I would like us to go with either: Jason Taylor, John Cartwright, Anthony Griffin, Kevin Walters or Steve Folkes.

Valid point. I reckon Kevin Walters would know how to throw a tanty. Learned from Bellamy.

I don't know why the guy earlier in the thread was so dismissive of Walters as a coach. He was a classy half that played in a fantastic Queensland team and we have four talented young halves (Moses, Brooks, Martin, Austin) who could use a coach that knows a thing or two about halves play.

Care to fill us in on the successes of Neil Henry after 8 years or so? Talk about a nobody.

I think he'll stay at the Titans. Though he would have been a good candidate.

No. I didn't say that he was a good option. Just that he was one that I forgot to put in the list. As you'll see from the OP I put a few in the list I don't rate.

That was directed at the post on the last page.

Even with a new board, I don't believe a new broom will sweep entirely clean. I still think there will be factions and politics to deal with.

I actually think a similar set-up to Penrith would work with Gus doing his thing and Cleary his. I still think they have a CEO.

In the Director role I would look to Brian Smith or Tim Sheens (howls of derision). This leaves us with more choices in terms of coaches as they don't need to be politicians or diplomats - they just coach.

It's bit left of centre butI have always been a Freddy Fittler fan. Not sure about his interest but a non-traditional coach to bring the best out of our youth may be productive. Would also have Steve Folkes there in a defensive role as well.

Yes yes yes - there is something amiss. The players may think he is a good bloke, but does he inspire them as a coach - doesn't look like it. And what can they do about it -say nothing cause they will be accused of undermining the coach, or play like crap because they are completely frustrated by the situation. Too many ex players in the media these days who cant be objective protecting the ones they like and undermining those they don't. They are the cancer in the game and I don't see what the NRL can do to resolve it.

I have said it before and will say it again. Steve Folkes fits the type of coach we need. Won premierships, doesn't take any crap from the playing group, very very good defensive coach (what we desperately need) knows a lot about strength and conditioning.

IMO a perfect fit. The club should be chasing him hard.

The club should also be chasing an experienced halves coach to be working with Brooks, Moses etc etc to develop these young blokes. A bloke like a Fittler, A Johns I would even go as far as a freshly retired bloke like Scotty Prince.
