Why has the Magpie Stayed

@Lidcombe_magpie said:
Ok then since it will be here for another 70 years let it go. It was part of the joint venture agreement and no chance it will be changing. **Wests Ashfield are paying the bills** and we have people bringing this up…unbelievable

:roll

As Mr Wizard use to say to Tooter Turtle " Twizzle, Twazzle, Twozzle , Twome time for this one to go home."

not having a magpie on the wests-tigers jersey,
would be the same as **not having the iconic big face at the entrance to Luna park in Sydney.** :unamused:
**wouldn't it be the same as not having a image of a bird for twitter ?
or not having the big capital letter " f" image for face book ?
not having a " i " for use in I pod or I phone ?**

if it ain't broke then don't fix it. :brick:

_The Wests Tigers have been around longer than I have so honestly I couldn't care less whether it is there or not but I would just like to know why it has stayed on the sleeve? The club is named "Wests Tigers" I understand that Wests has come from Wests Magpies and Tigers has come from Balmain Tigers. Seeing there is no Magpie in the name why is it still on the jersey? Balmain Tigers and Wests Magpies are gone, finished, history. We are now the Wests Tigers and I don't think there is any reason that the Magpie should be there._

Copy and paste from the other thread:

-The tiny magpie has been there since WT was created
-Its only an sore point for some because its a "more obvious" symbol of Wests Magpies..

Compared to less publically scrutinised traces of Balmain Tigers legacy in WT (like the main use of of the colour Orange or the Tigers Mascot, black and gold only merchandise and the nostalgic and media focus of Leichhardt Oval being the 'spiritual home' of the Tigers etc).

As long as the Wests Group is a half owner of WT, then the tiny Magpie will always be there on the sleeve to represent the legacy of Western Suburbs Magpies. As continuing legacy was the intention of both 1908 clubs when they formed WT.

It's the Wests Tigers what's the colour of most Tigers?

Not saying WT should not have dominate orange but with that dominance of orange colour and tigers identity, the Western Suburbs Magpies is lost jn translation.

The Magpie was put in place when the agreement was signed in 1999 to ensure it is not lost and forgotten.

WT is not a renamed Balmain Tigers nor is a re-located Balmain Tigers its Wests Tigers, there needs to be some identity to support the Wests component.

Otherwise, its the Wests name that people often omit or is left out from media and print form. In 2014 we have commentators still calling WT Balmain.

Same goes for the White colour that is ignored in licensed merchandise - just plain ignorance.

Or the 'Black & Gold will never fold' catch cry.. James Tedesco staying at Leichhardt, LO - spiritual home of the Tigers etc etc All Balmain Tigers centric. Dozens of other examples.

Had this debate hundreds of times (cue acknowledgement from GNR4LFE) As i said in my previous post, its an issue to some because its less obvious then traces of Balmain Tigers.

If Balmain Tigers was in NRL today, what would be different from WT? Apart from playing four games at Campbelltown and the name Wests on the jersey - Nothing.

- there would be modernised jerseys
- there would be a modernised Tigers emblem
- they would still be called a Black and Gold team
- they would prob be playing half LO half ANZ
- they would still be called Tigers in every form of print, online, radio and TV

When it comes down to it.. All Balmain have really lost is the name Balmain where Western Suburbs Magpies have lost a lot more of their identity.

I'm the same since Wests have copped the pointy end of the pineapple since day one.

The original version of the jersey we are wearing today used to have a Balmain logo on the other sleeve.
I guess you could ask why was that removed, or why won't it be there today.

One of my favourite jerseys

Simple but effective and having the Tiger on the sleeve is truly what the Wests Tigers should be about

Forget the politics and all the crap attached

True 50/50 partnership :sign:

All I'm saying is that this brigade that seem to only care about wanting there being more white on the jersey and having the magpie take up a huge chunk of space seem to forget that Balmain don't have any recognition of them as a club on the jersey. No Balmain logo, no word 'Balmain' etc.
In saying that though and like I've mentioned before I don't think either club should have their old logo on the jersey.

We are done with Magpies and bamain heritage jumpers hopefully….

We only need WTs heritage in future

The future is now

Most Tigers are orange and black with a white chin, white cheeks, white eyebrows, white under neck, white under belly and white inside legs….
