Why Maguire's Tigers will be different

Like with any coach it will all come down to results and all the talk and press releases mean nothing. Not having a go at Madge and like all other new coaches he has inherited a roster that he probably would not have assembled, but it’s results we as fans have been crying out for.
Personally I think it’s another rebuild year and another year where we fall short of the eight, but ina months time we should have a better idea

I hope there’s a just result whatever that might be - if he did it he should face the consequences.

Agree Nelson. If found guilty he must face the consequences, if found not guilty hopefully there are some good heads around him to steer him in the right direction. The kids got talent but clearly not so talented off the field making a lot of poor decisions

Madge is a no nonsense coach that demands hard work and i think we've needed a kick in the pants in that department for while. Im liking the fact he hasnt thrown around rediculous quotes like Ivan did as it got us no where and it was all BS. Regradless of where we finish this season, you can rest assured that the team will be fit, drilled and accountable.

I feel like its a different sort of rebuild year this time though, maybe rebuild is even the wrong word,.

I get the impression that there's a lot more maturity from the club and players then from last year, and that the club is now solidifying in its direction that it wants…

plus our squad IS better then last year, that can only be a positive too in regards to the quality of football being played!

Agree Zach.

Were rebuilding but somehow different.

Few.things

We trusted a leader and were sold out and have learned a very valuable lesson. Ended up.with a btter coach BTW.

We as a club were gaining serious street cred othw MGo and Pascoe. I hope that the politicians recant and allow this continue.

We are being more selective about recruitment. We can no longer buy whats left and about to expire. We are a legitimate club and tjat believe starts from the inside out.

The difference is that the whole system is revolving around an individual that is committed to the job at hand… I do not see this season as a rebuild but more about consolidation and strengthening the whole brand in general. . There certainly has been recruitment in the right areas, and this will only improve under Madge’s tutelage, I am certainty not seeing this season in a negative light but quite a positive one whether or not this turns into making the finals it has to be seen.
The CEO situation is a major concern but that should not impact on what happens on the field .
After enduring another period of disruption due to the unprofessional and less than creditable character of Cleary I am looking forward to what’s our team and club in general can achieve in 2019 .

I know that most feel bitter and twisted by how Cleary left the team mid contract. At the end of the day, he started the job, recruited some reasonable players and put the pieces in place that made the Tigers enticing enough for a coach of McGuire's quality to jump on board. So be angry at how Ivan jumped ship, but don't downgrade the work he did while he was here, putting us in the position we are now….a team with a realistic shot at 4 to 8.

That is the way i see it also.He certainly deserves condemnation on the way he treated the club at the end of the year but that dosent mean he shouldnt get credit for laying the foundations for the future and actually getting a defence to not leak too many points during the season.

A few wins and we will forget easy enough.

For me I'm still abgry about Pascoe situation.

We need a fair outcome with hime being reinstated.

He really won me over in recent times.

Wouldn't be surprised to see more errors than usual early in the year while the kinks are ironed out then it clicking together the back half

@tiger_scott and @jadtiger - well said RE:Cleary

2017 was the start of the rebuild and we’ve built nicely since then. The upcoming season is about further improvement and consolidating the view that the Tigers are on the rise.

# New style set to spark Wests Tigers, as Michael Maguire eyes early premiership

He won a Super League title in his rookie year, and guided the Bunnies to a drought-breaking premiership. Now, Michael Maguire believes success will follow his move to the Tigers.

AAP FEBRUARY 25, 2019 2:48PM

New Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire knows how to build success fast at rugby league clubs.

In his first life as a head coach in 2010, Maguire was victorious in 11 of his first 12 games with Wigan as they won the English Super League title in his rookie year.

Then he became South Sydney’s NRL saviour in 2012.

He returned the Rabbitohs to the preliminary finals for the first time in 23 years in his rookie year in the NRL, before he captured the drought-breaking title two seasons later.

“I just think it takes everyone to have a team working at its highest level,” Maguire said of his coaching philosophy.

“If everyone is doing that you get the rewards. It’s like everything in life, what you put in you get back.

“It’s something that’s helped to get to the level I have been.

“I’ve got my own style that I’ve talked to the players about, and I’ve also got to use and complement the players and skills we’ve got.

“I need to do that (and get those results) again with my new club. I’m extremely hungry to achieve and want what’s best for the players.”

While rebuilding the Rabbitohs presented its own challenges, so too does the Tigers.

They have the longest finals drought in the NRL, having not featured since 2011.

They appeared on the right track when they finished ninth under Ivan Cleary last year, before the summer struck.

Cleary has since left mid-contract for Penrith, while the NRL’s salary cap findings have provisionally cost them chief executive Justin Pascoe and space in the cap.

However, Maguire is adamant his players remain on task, notably hungry to turn things around.

There have been distinct positives too.

Moses Mbye’s ascension to captaincy stands out while Luke Brooks’ new five-year deal leaves last year’s Dally M halfback of the year ready to make the team his own.

“It’s definitely his team, I’m not going to shy away from that,” Maguire said of the 24-year-old.

“There is so much upside in Luke Brooks. He’s growing as a halfback now and has experience.

“He’s in the period of his career now where he has a lot of experience, and it’s about doing that week in week out and utilising the team to be able to build the success we want.”

Adding to the Tigers’ attack will be part of that task regardless of whether Benji Marshall or Josh Reynolds start at five-eighth.

The Tigers had their second-best defensive year in 2018 but their worst season in attack.

Yet Maguire said there’d be changes in both departments.

“We’re looking at changing things up with our attack and the way we’re going to defend is going to be different to in the past,” he said.

“Throughout the last couple of months I’ve really enjoyed being able to work with the spine and come up with how we want to play.

“Obviously it’s known they need improvements in (attack) but I think the game starts with defence, I’ve always been that way. We’ve worked extremely hard in that area.”

I think Cleary laid the foundations in terms of recruitment, but I think his contribution to the overall standing of the club is on par with Jason Taylor

Hopefully, many more will look at the traitor's tenure without the rose coloured glasses, nor those tainted with hate of his predecessor. He took over a team not of his making early into a season, sure, but unlike Taylor who had little say and no money, the traitor had a bucket full of cap money and half a roster to fill to his liking for his first full season.

Even with such luxuries, he still dogged those same players that believed in him, by preparing to bail out on them mid season. I have an extremely low opinion of the man and doubt it will ever change.

Watch the match or at least the highlights of the Warriors scoring tries.

You will see a two guys run in to tackle the Warriors Center. Then our NR2 runs in and makes it a 3 on 1\. Center passes to the winger who is in open space and scores.

I believe Corey wore the NR2\. Seriously if he is doing that he needs to sort it out in park footy. I realise he is playing outside a new center partner but it was woeful to watch
