Worst Season in WT History

In the normal scheme of things ,teams are usually judged at the end of the season

Seeing we still have a quarter of a season to go shouldn't we be making judgements then

In my opinion , if we can defend like we did v the Roosters and maintain a 75% completion rate in the next 6 games there is no reason we can't win at least 4 games

9 wins would be on the low side of acceptable based on the fact many thought pre season that 9-11 wins was probably about what our par would be

Well Happy, what your saying is possibly quite correct, the problem I have had is that there were so many judging this team at the beginning of this season after all the hype….now most are disappointed that we could get the spoon...the old saying...."never count your chickens before they hatch"....

However I still think there is much improvement and hope for our team....we just need to stay positive, however much it hurts.....

It's strange TT at the start of the season I was getting hammered for being a negative nelly

Now it's for seeing the positives that are occurring

Lots of young talent have improved and another off season in the gym will give them more size and confidence

I'd say in 2016 we will improve again and will become more consistent but might still struggle to make the 8

As long as the talent continues to improve we will be fine long term

Happy,I still think this team will turn around, when the younger guys mature as NRL players and completely understand how and why structures work, they will go ahead in leaps and bounds. Also I really have to give JT the time to develope this team,it's not as easy as some of the doomsayers think,JT may turn out to be not to bad a coach as some think, remember he has a lot of immaturity and inexperience to mould an NRL standard team out of and not much chance of purchasing quality players for a while…..here's hoping and praying in the mean time.... :sign:

Lots of pats on the back here lol.

Youve said "lots of young talent have improved"

Please tell me who you think these players are that have improved, no bs and changing the subject.

Enough ??

I guess if you say lots and you name 7 well then that is lots.

You know already i dont think any of them have improved to any great degree. Nothing that can be put down to coaching and in some of the names mentioned i think theyve actually gone the other way.

But each to their own.

TITG,I usually try and stay positive and most of the time I see good in most things, the players named by Happy have shown some improvement, however you just keep seeing the negative in everything..give yourself a pat on the back, top of the negativity class!!!

The biggest problem is that in any usual situation would be brought along at maybe three juniors at a time

Then they get on the field and when they look for a player beside them to help in the natural order of an NRl club having players of say even 75 NRl games experience they have more rookies beside them

I can think of at least 3-4 games when we have improved when the older heads are off

A lot of these kids have been thrown into a typhoon and they are slowly starting to hold their own despite the crap this club has put them in

Again point your fingers at the club , not the players or coaching staff

Taylor should be sacked at seasons end this team has NOT progressed in any regard this season it has gone backwards, the younger guys have not improved again gone backwards now they struggle to throw a decent pass.

What I want to know is how do you expect a coach to take a rubbish team and improve remarkably in just one season? He's hardly even had the chance to influence signings yet (and may not for a while given the cap trouble he's apparently been left with).

Do we only sign coaches for 1 season until we make the finals?

We have improved this season - less injuries and better defence. It's not enough yet to make a mark on the win column, but even Terry Lamb got two seasons.

By this point last season, we had conceded 456 points at an average of 25.3 per game. This season, we have conceded 416 points at an average of 23.1 per game. If this rate of "improvement" can be sustained we should be up there with the best defensive sides in the comp by 2019.

FWIW, last year we scored 420 points at an average of 17.5 while this year we've scored 317 at 17.6\. We should be mixing it with the best attacking teams in the NRL by 2051.

well we are a sinking ship but lets take these lot down with us too -

-Raiders
-Canberra
-Cronulla
-WARRIORS
-Dragons

Wouldnt it be good to get some wins, boot them out of top 8 and at the sametime avoid the spoon

But i dont think we know HOW to win at the moment

He's just jealous TT

He had his chance after the cyclone to hook up but he knocked me back

I can't believe how quickly Yeppoon seems to have recovered

Apart from a few fences still down we couldn't see any damage

Well you're easily pleased
Ava - agree
Sue - no different
Teddy - always going to improve if stays injury free
Moses - your pulling a long bow here Hap. The coach admits that he's been reigned in. I've got my fingers crossed but I think he's gone backwards
Lovett - mate your reputation just took a massive hit
Santi - yep most time in seconds so I suppose he is improving against nuffies
Cherrington - again fingers crossed but let's agree about improving when he gets more than limited minutes per game and is not third behind Farah and Halatau

What you have quoted, fair enough cq,but realistically it sure ain't a star studded roster JT has to work with apart from the obvious…

But to think that they would all take massive steps forward with the lack of experience around them is being extremely optimistic

Lovett has improved , who would of thought he was going to be a starter a month out from the season proper

To expect a rookie to maintain his early form when playing basically 80 minutes every week is again drawing a long bow

If he is still playing back row next season lets see how he goes with another off season in the gym and two decent centres defending outside him

There is a story in RLW with Woods saying that he is sick of hearing that we are a young side and need time, Woods says "These players have had over a year in the NRL now, they are grown men ,that is a cop out".
'We need to be mentally tougher, there are games we should have won'.
'That is the difference between being in finals contention and being down the ladder in the position we find ourselves in now".
Taylor needs to listen to Woods and start doing something about it, if our star player says no excuses, then there are no excuses and Taylor needs to do something or join Rick stone in the dole office.

So we've arguably had a handful of players marginally improve - kinda.
I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that's not a great result for a rebuilding year. JT has had them for close to a full season now (and full summer), and that's all we have to show for it?
Lets be honest, it's a bit of a concern.

edit: have just seen 851's post, and I completely agree.
JT's got the rest of the year to work on improvement, but the results need to start coming next season.
