Would you take Todd Carney at the Tigers?

UMMMM Lui and Carney, well one hasnt been charged twice for belting his missus for starters.
Do you really think our boys dont enjoy a drink and a punt away from football. If you look for an excuse to sack a footballer you will find it .Tell me HT was that training session you refer to the next morning after a game ,where half the guys could be under the weather after a good win.
Sport in general is hypocritical. The winners of the afl and nrl will spend the next week on the grog and it is acknowledged as normal.
Sign Carney on a one year ,with an option contract .If he stuffs up then punt him.

I feel that we are in our period were we have a shot at the title. We have some top class players in Benji, Robbie, Keith, Gareth, Adam Blair and Chris Lawrence. We have very good first graders in Liam, Chris Heighintion, Lote and Blake. Also we have some good youngsters in Woods, Groat, BMM and some others I believe will make it this year.

The rest of the squad are good enough in players like Brown, Bell, Reddy and Ryan Etc.

To win the comp we need a good halfback. Sheens things Lui is good enough and if he didn't have off filed issues I think he would have been the right guy for our side moving forward. However I have doubts about him being with our side next year.

As I stated in another thread for mine Miller needs another year in the 20's followed by a full season in the NSW/QLD cup before he will be ready. That pathway worked great for DCE. I think because of Luis off field antics Miller should be groomed as our long term halfback.

I don't think Miller can play 7 for us next year and we win the title.

I would go for Carney because at his best he could help us win the title. A lot of me would hate him at our club but if we win a competition I could overlook that. Carney has the skill and game that would benefit our side, if he could get sorted off the field he would be a bargin buy. As others have stated offer him a small incentive based contract for next year with an better term option if he performs.

Even if Carney was an option surely he wouldn't come cheap which could put him out of reach. The club has gone very quiet on Lui so either they are waiting until after the grand final or waiting until his Court case is over (which will be a long time off) or the intention is to keep him.

I noticed Brett Seymour playing for the Vulcans today maybe he could have been a half back option should Lui go and to give Miller more time to develop, however apparently he's going to ESL.

Brett Seymour has had similar problems to Carney, but the difference is Seymour is just a park footballer at his best .Get Carney right and we will go close to another premiership imo.

Cunno if what the Mole (RLW)was saying in 2009 is true he wanted to come here due to real estate (or something along those lines anyway)he has in the area I think He might take a pay cut to come
Still don't want him though

Not a bad idea 1/4 but can he fit under our salary cap?

with Dwyer & possibly Lui gone then yes

If it's true the Tigers officials were watching the Vulcans then I guess there is a chance he could fill the 7 jersey for a year.

I thought he went ok in the Grand Final yesterday so we could do worse for a season while Miller grows and develops.

In regards to Carney - there is no way that the club will risk our (mostly) very, very good off field reputation with him.

In this economy we need to do all we can to hold on to the Meritons, Hyundai's and Trend Micro's and I dont think its worth taking the risk.

We'd look like total hypocrites if we punted Lui because of his off field behaviour only to replace him with Carney.
Wont happen

Carney"s problems have all been about being a d head on the drink, being a woman beater is a whole different affair,I know who I would take out of a woman basher and a drunken idiot.

I'd still sign him. Two year contract, no alcohol during regular season and zero tolerance. If he stuffs up, he gets sacked and as part of the contract termination, the NRL should agree to de-register him for the remainder of the contract.

Actually I thought the meeting with the sponsors might of been about Carney not Lui ..gauging there reaction just a thought.

excluding off field stuff, carney is no doubt an amazing talent. But it is not worth the risk, we have gone and signed a number of players known for their work ethic and professionalism, Reddy, Blair and Bell. Carney flies in the face of the direction they seem to be going.

Imagine Benji and Carney at the Tigers together, we would have the back page headline every day of the season. The media would be around us 24/7 and of course if they are positive headlines the sponsors would get great value. I would take him, whats to lose, if he stuffs up you flick him quick smart and the odds are he will be on his best behaviour as it would be his very last chance
