WT have an identity crisis...

Really interesting read about rugba league under Peter V'landys, identity and even Perth (hint - it aint happening).

https://www.themonthly.com.au/issue/2020/august/1596204000/lech-blaine/art-class-war#mtr

Warning - it's about an hour read - worth it though.

Perth, can we just take the opportunity before somebody else does. It's the right move tbh.

Who would run the club? Wests Ashfield still?

Wests Ashfield as owners should have the business nous to understand it's the right decision for the club to take the Perth opportunity. Opening an associated leagues club there isn't required but is an option. Or they could scout out some Perth investors to go in with, or even sell out to.

I'm sick of the mediocrity we need something totally fresh. The support we'd get from Perth, from the NRL, the media. It'd do wonders for us.

Mate, you are talking a load of rubbish.

Perth is an AFL town and our support there would be minimal on a week by week basis.

Our support here in Sydney would drop off so quickly it wouldn't be funny.

Why would Wests Ashfield put money into a club in Perth, Why would a Perth owner
put money into a piddly little NRL effort there, it would take at least 20 years to do
any good if at all.

Sounds like the same thing people said about why the Storm would fail.

What you don't get is that Perth absolutely hates Rugby league. The crowds will not magically appear as you seem to think they will, the money won't either.

They pull as good of crowds as we do when Souths play there and it's not even a real home team.

If we start winning and making the finals consistently we won’t see this sort of opinion being expressed by Freddie and the like.

That sort of puts to bed the theory that the chooks have no fans.

True. The other way to look at it is that this is their fan base at their peak. Ours on the other hand currently at the other end of the spectrum. We win, we dwarf them in numbers.

Absolutely we do. But you do hear people say that they have no fans, its a silly comment if they have outdrawn us over the last 20 years.

Big difference between a one off game and every second week for six months.

This is the laziest crap article ever. Watching their show when it came out on Wednesday, it is not Johns that has an agenda, not much at all I feel.

Fitter on the other hand for the past two weeks has made strong remarks about the club having issues. Weird how he says we don't have fans. Yeah, because the Roosters have tons of them and if we don't have any, what do the Panthers have?

When he's saying things like that it worries me because we all know at least one Sydney team is going to get the chop. We all know if anyone should get cut it's Manly, Sharks or Titans, for performance or financial reason but we don't have the political clout of these teams it seems.

In their 3 seasons they averaged 10,142. The competition average was for those years 11,763. Not bad for a city that hates the game.

Yeah because twice a year they have games and all the kiwis come out to watch. Put a team in that doesn't win and the crowds disappear. Just like Perth glory, just like western force. But the difference is that the vast majority don't just not follow the game of Rigby league. They detest everything to do with it.
