A question for those who are closer to the club:

There is still a lot made in the press about how the Board is divided etc but to my understanding this is no longer and issue.

My understanding of Rough History:

At merger there was a divided between Wests Ashfield and Balmain legacy boards. Odd things like the chairman of the board alternating every other year so no continuity. Lots of factionalism and favouritism between the board and the football operation
success during Sheens era papered over the divisions but in the background Balmain was becoming increasingly financially unsound. This boiled over towards the end of the Sheens era with scape goating all round. Relations between the two foundation clubs at an all time low with Wests unwilling to contribute more than their fair share given Balmain couldn’t match the contributions
Balmain financial condition deteriorates further and they need a loan from the NRL to maintain their ownership obligations (providing capital to the JV).
when NRL loans come due Balmain can’t repay and the NRL arranges a restructure whereby Wests repays the debt to the NRL and take a large ownership (not sure the number, maybe 80% or 90%). Wests is quite reasonable with the Balmain side of the JV despite the bad blood and gives them the right to appoint members to the board in return for ultimately folding into part of the Wests Group.
wests MacArthur at this point basically exits the JV and hands back their 5% ownership. Wests Ashfield and Macaurthur had been seperate entities for 20yrs or so. Whilst Wests Macaurthur remains aligned with the Wests Tigers through its contributions/management of the juniors in that area there is no formal role for Wests MacArthur in the NRL team.
In summary:

wests and Balmain factionalism is basically dead at board level. Wests is a more or less benevolent owner of the NRL club and now includes the Balmain catchment as part of its overall mandate to support rugby league
Wests MacArthur isn’t interested in being involved in the NRL club. I’m unsure how this plays out with regard to the team playing at Campbelltown ie does Wests Ashfield (the club owner) still care much about the Campbelltown area given that side of Wests was separated a long time ago?
It seems to me that the whole narrative of Balmain vs Wests is basically a non issue now. Is that correct? What is the relationship between wests MacArthur and wests Ashfield?

Thanks for any info

You missed an important element being the appointment of independent board members which even when Balmain existed disrupted numbers. Very important to the board.

**Removal of CEO Justin Pascoe & the Wests Tigers Board Members**

The members, fans and supporters of this club demand action against the board and CEO that has failed the club entirely, bringing the club to one of its darkest moments since the merge. The supporters demand better from the club and want the clubs senior staff members to be held accountable and all need to stand down immediately. The passing of responsibility stems from the top and all involved at senior level should be finally brought to its fans who want action for its weak performances for years and years. Enough is enough!
These blokes only care about the $$ and don't actually care about what's happening in front of them.
Who agrees ??

Sorry, but I think you are dreaming?

Can anyone explain how no board member has fronted the press to answer questions about the reappointment of Madge! They need to stop the bleeding of this club get out and answer the questions on the process of reappointment where we are heading and how we are getting there. I am so frustrated with the media beating us up and know one there to set the record straight instead of the media just making up rumours. CAN THE BOARD STAND UP AND DO THERE JOB😡😡😡

Worth a listen

Board don't even get paid for their position. If I ain't getting paid I ain't fronting the media.

Ultimately they are decision makers and the work is already done for their decision. Lee goes above and beyond often too his detriment

That is kind of the gist of it all, you skipped a couple of things and have the timeframes all wrong but your end result is just about right.

Wests Magpies Pty Ltd own 90% of the Wests Tigers (Wests Magpies Pty Ltd is 66% Wests Ashfield and 33% Wests Magpies Football club

Balmain Tigers Football club own 10%

The issue to me is not so much between Wests and Balmain anymore, I have concerns around who is on the board, how they are nominated for the board, there being no mechanism for them to be removed from the board and the lack transparency around the board.

Are the board members just lifetime bingo players at West’s Ashfield ?

Well now that they have decided to keep Madge, and are looking at more qualified assistant coaches, I am no longer on board the S.S. SackPascoe.

I am also leaning away from that approach, nice to see the club steer away from past mistakes for once.

There decisions cost the organisation big bucks so paid or not these people do have a responsibility to properly take due diligence in account with there decision making ... I do not know what the reference meant about not getting paid ?
Does that mean they take no responsibility because there not paid !

That’s normally how it works with licensed clubs and footy clubs lol

The board don't get paid, but they do get access to sponsors. It's in their best interest that the Wests Tigers are reputable, as its success affects their business endeavours. WT are used as a business network by the board members. If the media are clowning on us, then those board members' reputations are impacted negatively.

Because they employ a Chairman and CEO to do that job?

The easiest decision would have been sack Madge. Whilst I wanted Madge replaced with someone better, Im glad to see the Club stick to their guns and the long haul. Hope they are right.

He may still fail but not even giving him a chance without the absolute dead weight senior player group he had would have been criminal .

Yep, they've got a plan and they've decided to stick to it.

It also gives them a lot of time to identify his replacement if need be, and give that person time to actually build what they want.
