The reforms undertaken with the Pathways and the retention of our best juniors to an extent is forgotten. It is these initiatives which will ensure the long-term success of the club. If we can replicate the production line of talent which the Panthers have achieved we will be successful. De Silva is one of the first to appear from our Pathways. More will follow.

Daily Telegraph latest:

Wests Tigers coach-in-waiting Benji Marshall presented his vision to the club’s board on Monday night alongside coach Tim Sheens just hours after the club was engulfed in controversy.

It comes as Wests Tigers boss Lee Hagipantelis reinforced his belief that Marshall was well equipped to ensure the Tigers have long-term success.

On the same day club officials vowed Marshall and head of recruitment Scott Fulton would be able to work togetherdespite the growing angst between the two parties, it was Marshall who fronted the club’s top brass on Monday to outline his vision for the club.

Hagipantelis refused to confirm what Marshall presented to the board but said it was hard to not be excited by his plans for the future.

“Benji’s skill is in identifying strengths and weaknesses in the club especially in our playing roster and addressing those challenges,” Hagipantelis said.

“His football IQ continues to impress and he has exceeded all our expectations in terms of his development as a future head coach.

“He has a vision for the club. I could not have been more impressed with his commitment and his passion and his drive to turn this club around.

“I have absolutely no doubt that we have in our midst our long-term NRL head coach.”

It is understood Marshall‘s address included the strengths and weaknesses of the current squad.

The Tigers are likely to forge ahead with plans to entice Super League based halves Brodie Croft and Aidan Sezer to the club next year. The Tigers halves situation is problematic given Luke Brooks’ decision to join Manly and Adam Doueihi not being available until at best the midway point of next year.
Some sort of positive news , hopefully it translates from the Board room to the playing field. Good luck Benji, we all want you to succeed.

He presented a talk on the roster strengths and weaknesses and this impressed the board? Enough that the chairman has “absolutely no doubt that we have in our midst our long-term NRL head coach.”?
That’s just terrific.

We may all have varying opinions on different matters/topics, but don't think any of us want to see him being set up to fail.
He'd have all of us behind him hoping for nothing but the best. Love that Sheens was right there beside him as it's a real full circle moment ❤️

Even though the board will make the final decision.

Good post...

If the flagged kids kick on we've got a lot of positions covered.

Faagutu, the perfect bench option - playing all forward positions and looking a star.

TDS, already oozing superstar calibre traits and will only get better the more he sinks into first grade.

Bula - no need to elaborate.

Then we've got the likes of Jordan Miller, Kit and Luke bros, Will Craig, Feledy, Galvin, Conti, Karbib, etc etc.....

Invest in them and surround them with leaders who inspire and we're looking good for the future.

Was thinking the other day, It's funny how now that we actually have a Fullback that shows a bit of something
- Daine Laurie is seemingly no longer some amazing fullback that many here claimed he was....
What was it Speed, Excellent under the high ball, Try assists?

I honestly can't believe he's starting over Smith, Whatever the opinion of Smith - He has shown as much in 2 NRL games that Laurie has all year (And maybe last).
Agree man.

Laurie had some hype but it disappeared quick and was undeserved imo.

I used to think that receiving the spoon would set about change in the club.
I no longer believe this.
I think the HB Group only see Wests Tigers Football Club as a revenue source and with guaranteed grants each year from the NRL, along with sponsorship funding, they only require the club to be profitable.
They don’t seem concerned with wasting too much energy trying to turn the squad into a premiership force.
I suspect they have done their sums and discovered it will cost too much to achieve this. They’ll do the bare minimum to ensure the money keeps flowing.

I would have thought the board ask Benji for his 5 year plan before signing him to a 5 year contract?

I don't think his presentation at Monday night's board meeting was outlining his vision. I think that was a media misuse of the word 'vision'. Believe it was more of a scheduled update on how he is seeing the roster including holes, who he wishes to release and what type of player he wants to recruit. It also probably gave a chance for the board to reinforce the importance of working in unity with Fulton.

That is not the way our "brains trust" do things,it is all knee jerk and then throw an underling to the wolves when it all falls apart. It has kept them in power since inception so why change it now?
Muppets all of them
Every decision is reactionary because there is no strategic goal for the club.
“Madge is losing too much”
“Sack him”
“Who will coach”?
“Doesn’t matter, we’ll find one”.
“We are struggling to find one”.
“We have Sheens on the books. Make him do it”.
“The bloke is in his 70’s”.
“Use some old boys to help him. Benj and Rob are on the books, use them”.
“Brilliant”.

It's all about the popular decision the fans will like.

Yes, I can understand that Fulton needed to hear the 5 year plan and broad outline of recruitment strategy with board members present to reinforce all singing from the same hymn book, but Hagipantelis spoke as if he had heard for the first time.

Completely untrue regarding the HB group motives.

The HB group was set up to create an inclusive identity for all Wests Tigers fans, with a stable income source.

That much achieved.

Money is flowing for coaches and staff as well as recruits.

They have bagged some missed out on others....that's they way it is.

Their selection of Sheens is rightly debated. It was the view of the club that Flanagan was not to be approached for governance reasons. And with the current dearth of quality established players on the market the club should concentrate on pathways.

Sheens is a risk taker and without an established squad the club thought this the correct path whilst Benji sets up.

Has its pros and cons.
