Good God, are we really having this discussion?

The club is at fault because a bloke in his mid-twenties wasn't told that writing crass material in a school is inappropriate? Give me a break, it's always someone else's fault…

Welcome to 2014 CB

Like my staff who say it isn't their fault that they did not know they were working , even though the worked the night before and knew they had that shift

Accountability in today's days is about how good you can count , not about being responsible

Personally I think the penalty was harsh. Risk management, leave it in the failed corporate boardrooms where it belongs.

Hmmm…well, I hope you're a tradey and come to work on my premises. I won't need to bother ensuring you comply with WHS guidelines or be responsible for your safety. And, given there'd be no need to manage risk to your wellbeing, you'd be willing to forego any claim against me if you inadvertently injured yourself, wouldn't you? Good on you, champ. Have a coffee with Willow and Ink. I'm sure you'll all get along famously.

Coffee was great with a couple of great blokes who are passionate Wests Tigers supporters, thanks.

I just hope Mayer is a little more discerning next time in who he signs and brings to our club. Just because the price is right doesn't mean the signing will be a good one and will be a good representative of the club. The old adage is if you pay peanuts you get monkeys …

wow, this is getting pretty long winded.

if i can put this succinctly, i think there should be literature handed to all players with (what are relatively simple, akin to a company's web usage) conduct protocols and any breach of them has the required penalty.

simple. no complaints if they break them, no complaints that they weren't warned. done.

I'm pleased to read that. And, I don't for one second doubt the passion that anyone on here has for the Wests Tigers, whether I agree with their opinions or not. And, clearly, that is all we have in common …support for the mighty Tigers.

Are the Weststigers players receiving this type of training? I dont know, but if not why not? Are the players given any sort of detailed training on what the club's code of conduct is?

Are they given any training?
OMG Are you serious?

Yeah it's called Kindergarten. that's where you learn to write your name without making a dirty joke. Kindergarten.

The Evasion of personal responsibilty in today's youth, both in the workplace and in the real world never ceases to amaze me.

No my old mate you dont learn this stuff in kindergarten.

What Buddy apparently did was known for the first 40 odd years of my life as a bit of joke or acting the goat - call it what you like. OK things have moved on from there, but you are not born with the social skills which are apparently required in 2014\. That is why companies spend a fortune on training staff on sexual harassment and the rest because there are higher standards being required. You can act as superior as you like, but I repeat my earlier comment, you wouldnt last 5 minutes doing what this guy does for a living so just take that into account.

Yeah you most certainly do learn it in Kindergarten, and life in general.
There's no excuse for acting like a caveman, you're simply ignoring the social skills taught to you.

As for "acting the goat"…. right.
If that's the kind of thing you find funny then I'm probably wasting my time continuing the conversation.

No you are not "born" with the social skills need in life, you LEARN them throughout your life You don't need any special courses not to end up a clown.

Companies run courses like the one's you mentions to mitigate legal liability in a litigious society.

Oh and I'll keep acting superior as long as your posts keep reinforcing the point.

What does whether I would survive as a professional footballer have to do with anything...?
I'm not asking anything of him apart from basic civility and common sense, y'know BASIC LIFE SKILLS

I'll give you the red hot tip that he wouldn't survive anywhere else in the REAL world either. so I have no idea what your point is.... Unless it's to prove mine?

OK, "my old mate?"

it is simply a fact that different upbringings, social groups and individual placings in society dictate lexicons, thought processes and attitudes towards what is acceptable and usual as commonalities amongst peers.

if you work in an office environment with an even mix of men and women, you are conditioned to a certain criteria of what is and is not acceptable in the workplace. yet, still we have many procedures in place to eliminate hazardous situations as well as those deemed inappropriate (harassment, bullying, etc.).

if you were on site or a worksite working with only men you cant tell me that what would be acceptable there would also be acceptable in an office environment.

what gordon has misunderstood, is that what he saw as a "bit of a laugh" in his mind, and being used to a male dominated environment such as a rugby league club is not acceptable in a school.

To a certain extent I agree with the idea of sending players to community obligations that suit the player. A number of years ago the school I work at had a high profile player sent out to the school to promote reading (I won't name the player because he is a great ambassador for the game and he shouldn't be embarrassed in that way). The issue was though that he could not read, he had to speak in front of 500 students about reading and he himself was unable to read. This was unfair on the player, the school and the students in attendance.
