Garbo
Dont sneer….someone has to take away your crap.

Nothing to be ashamed of mate, I don't think any less of people that are cleaners, garbos. Even people that work with people with disabilities.
You guys to an admirable job ink despite those posh people, they don't even know how to clean there own toilet it's above them pff!!!

Why would there be people who think less of people who do this job?

It's an admirable job that is what I'm saying, there is a lot of people that think it's grotty in terms of saliva hanging from there mouths and a lot of nappy changing.

INK, Doesnt matter what your job is,I will still respect and luv ya….

when you say garbo, does it mean all,eg garbage, recycle or greenwaste...why I ask my mate works at the recycle centre and thats all he deals with..steel,glass,cardboard and paper etc...

Good question, GNR, but I think he's probably referring to the general disregard out there for people who work in the care industry (most of whom are usually women). It's pretty much a fact that we are held in less regard than many other industries, evident by our lower pay rates and the reluctance of governments to give their full support to the industry. Ftr, I work in Aged Care.

What's wrong with being a garbo? Probably pays better than most jobs.

Nothing CB….though some people seem to think we are less than them ...I work in an area where what you do, where you live and how much you have is priority to many

Don't worry ink , I think its the same everywhere

My son when he was young was fascinated with the rubbish collection and we used get the same guy every week

He would always give him a wave and a massive smile

One particular year ( we are on the Friday delivery day ) , he hoped out of his truck and gave my young fella an Easter Egg

Our bin is in a enclosed area at work and we have to unlock it for the garbos , so we usually have some small banter and they are always happy ,smiling and wish you a good day

Your job is what you make of it , make it work for you and others around you

Final bit of advice , leave your work problems as you walk out the door

This reminded me of an article I read a few weeks ago:

I'm a front-end web developer.

Some really cool jobs. It's amazing how in school or uni, you seem to think there is only a finite opportunities in the work force but there is such a wide plethora of professions that we know exist and would probably enjoy.

Am currently in the middle of 3 jobs (5 if you count helping parents' business and being a student).

Tutor maths to all ages. Hate kids but love maths, love it when they get something right for the first time- it's a wonderful smile.

Volunteer about 5 hours a week only at a private hospital. Mainly do it to gain experience in the Physio field but find it so rewarding seeing the pts get increasing strength, range of motion of joints, better functionality- just very rewarding in general. Can't wait to graduate and do it on a full time basis.

The only place where I get decent money from is about 10-20 hours at Coles. Good pay, meet new people everyday but crappy bosses and dealing with sleezy customers is a pain.

Everything is part time/casual apart from uni which is on my mind 24/7.

Very happy to read other responses.

Also, if people want to add in how long they've been doing the said work for and what pathways lead to where they are would be great. Best stories are usually the journeys of real people.

To me helping another Human being in need is the most rewarding thing in life to me .

Love working for Anastacia

I run my own property service business, doing a large range of handyman type jobs for real estates, other commercial clients as well as the general public.

I can pick and choose my own hours and the money can be good. Hardest thing is keeping up with the work load on my own.

Director of US listed medical technology business. Love it. Great role, great team and amazing company. We make a difference in lots of people's lives.

I hope to get back into working with children with special needs eventually. I miss it, you learn a lot about a lot of disabilities and get to work in a lot of different environments. I've worked with children who have suffered a lot of disabilities from Down Syndrome, Autism, Global Delay, Muscular Dystrophy. One girl i use to work with had Dwarfism. One of the best jobs i had was working at a school inside a juvenile justice centre for teenage girls. There was a lot of interesting stuff happening, we had Adam Goodes come out and speak one day, plus they did a lot music which is right up my alley.

I would hazard a guess you've used a keyword that gets picked up by the filter Gunners. I would imagine words beginning with "r" and "s" that are considered derogatory towards the handicapped are blocked out by the filter.

I'm in the coal seam gas industry, and thanks to Alan jones the s*** artist I'll probably be out of a job soon.

Nothing personal, but it is an industry which I would prefer did not exist. Jones too.

Care to share your reasons why?

Possibly, though i've seen people use those words on here in the past. My post didn't contain those words though.
