Your Most Improved/Best Player of 2019

Its a real when your best player for the year is a 34yo on his last legs...we need a total clean out..

I thought Elijah Taylor was one of our best today ...
Says it all really !

One thing I appreciate is Madge started 2019 with the incumbents and tried to give them a decent shot, guys like Fonua, Packer, Matulino. And when they weren't meeting his expectations, he dropped them for guys who would.

It took a while but eventually Garner, Nofo, Huth, Momo, Clarke hit their straps and finished the season well.

So I appreciate that a good number of players accepted the coach's challenge and performed. Benji turned back the clock. Brooks IMO finished the year better than 2018.

So I'd say ultimately Garner was the most improved, simply because he started the year in reggies but became a legitimate attacking threat in the back half of the season, and got his defence pretty right as well.

Honorable mention to Oliver Clarke who isn't the biggest fellow ever - I stood next to him yesterday - but is a real ruck-controlling machine and I'm impressed by his effort.

Both players can improve again in 2020, so that's exciting.

@WT2K extremely excited to see the development of Mikaele, Madge can turn him into the hulk if the young man is a committed and dedicated worker.

Has consistently been one of our best since being brought back into the side and awesome the past month.

Most improved Garner
Best player Matto

Shout out to Brooks in both categories, most improved defence and our best player in several games.

Best; I'll go with Brooks, but just shading Matterson overall and on the back of a great finish to the season once allowed control again.

Most Improved; got to go with Garner, who started well before the major hiccup with the loss of his father and sorting out some of his defensive issues in the second half of the season.

Special mention to Nofoaluma, who came back from early season injury setback to perform well and be denied the fruits of two great efforts when obstructing nobody this afternoon.

Finally, Benji, who finally seems to have just about removed the crap from his game, being superb in his own game and allowing Luke to shine in recent weeks.

Agree 100%

Whilst I haven't been onboard with a few decisions that the coaches have made this year, following their awards voting tallies it seems that we pretty well agree on evaluation of player performances.

Sure, it would be great if Luke could ice it on every occasion that a game is on the line, as that would make him an absolute stellar player, it is about time that more, as a few have done already, stopped under selling what he brings to our WT.

Over the whole season I think Brooks has probably been our best. In certain areas of his game he has also been the most improved- in particular his kicking game and his D.
As for Matterson, I noticed a drop in his involvement and intensity over the last couple of months - even with that he was still one of our best each week, but there was something missing from his earlier outstanding performances. Perhaps the change in his on field role wasn’t what he wanted and could be what has caused his reported unhappiness.
Others deserving a mention- In the last part of the season the guys that really stepped up in my mind were Noffa, Benji, Taylor and Garner. Most improved players included Mikaele, Momo and Clark.
Disappointments were Marsters, Mbye, Packer, Jennings.
