Your Tigers side vs Knights

Happy and Ink you both make good points and I agree, it starts in the ruck for sure. But when we do eventually fix up our rucking, we need something or someone to finish it off and Utai may be the shortest winger in the game but how can we be so quick to write someone off? I am glad that when I signed up for the police that my height didn't bar me from joining. We are a club who puts our senior players first, we look after them and Utai will probably come to his last season this year or next. We are just only now starting to build a team. Switching everything and everyone around last year is what killed us. Having 1 or 2 utilities that fill in gaps won't affect us but when we can't settle on 1 formation then comes the trouble. And For now I am happy to see Moltz have no.1 He's doing the job required and see Teddy come off the bench as 14.

I have read a lot of what you blokes have had to say & i see all sides of opinions, I feel picking a team for the first game will be difficult due to a number of things. Injuries will Lawrence, Big Ben, Ayshford Woods & Sironen play? & what about Moltzen & Tedesco who will get the number one jumper?. Also will Utai be on the wing or not as i cant see Potter moving Lawrence to the wing if he plays, Rory Brien looks good but lacks experience so i dont think he will be in firsts for the first gam,.. I think Potter will go for experience for the first couple of games

kh and ink, Sure switching constantly stuffed us up last season but it's not even round 1 yet. So switching between trial games and nrl games isn't that big a problem. That's why i wanna switch utai out now, so we're not disrupting things half way through the season. that's what the trials are FOR to see how players go and based on that form and cohesion picking a new side. Also helps get a hitout before the nrl, but you don't really need 3 of em. one would suffice if that's all you wanted to do.

We have now reached Potter's biggest test so far. He has been with the players all pre-season and he would have watched them play in a quite a number of trials if you also include Under 20's and State Cup. He should now know which players are carrying injuries and which playrs are out of form. A coach in an any grade of football should have the courage and confidence to rely only on his own decisions. No amount of amount of cajoling from others should persuade him to do other than what what he thinks is best for the team. Make no mistake about it a win in the first round is important for the team. It is not a game to play injured or out of form players. The trials served that purpose. I predict that Tedesco will play fullback in Round 1 and that at least one or two players will make their FG debut.

errr… but i rate utai... he is too good bringing the ball back... maybe we play him at prop

I think Utai is excellent at what he does, he brings the ball back out of our own half with vigour and is effective at that.
IMO he is limited in other areas, he is slow and doesn't have the skill of alot of others around, end his jumping is non exisitent. The jinking wingers runs from dummy half (Beau Ryan) which usually end up with them on their bellies is just as effective as what Utai does, if done well enough, not as spectacular, but good enough.
If Utai is selected Ill be far from disapointed, but Id be also happy to see any of one of the fullbacks or Noffa get a game there.

The starting second row is the other area up for debate, dont thing we can in with Anasta and FUlton, and Thompson dispointed me against the Rooster, but by all reports was very strong against Parramatta. Pettybourne looked good to me against the Rooster and would be my pick.

Ayshford needs to perform better or he will be under pressure.

i think it's important to give ALL incumbents a go unless it's waaayy too obvious that it's not gonna work or that it wasn't working.

lawrence and aysh's form was terrible at the backend of last season, so was moltzen, benji etc. the whole team has been rejuvenated with potter at helm and imo the same team from last year deserves another go before we start sacking them.

in saying that, i have personally been proven wrong by utai all the time. his value in our team is only high because our forwards dont pull their weight. in other teams, he would only be a liability

people have been doubting Utai every pre-season he's been at the club or everytime he comes back from injury but hes been easily one of our best since he got here, probably up there with one of Sheen's best moves pulling him out of reserve grade. arguably the most damaging ball runner at the club, you only have to watch the game against the bulldogs from the backend of last season to see it

well he would be good bringing the ball back if he could catch bombs and not let the ball bounce anywhere!! he's just to much of a liability lacks size lacks speed can't defend.

We can not go into the season with Miller at half if he is not going to attack the line or organise the game better than what what he does. Moltzen has been Ok at half. just Ok
In the modern game a winger like Matt Utai is severely disadvantaged due to his height which makes me think he could be used effectively as an impact player. ( The amount of times the tall roosters wingers jump over him is ridiculous and there is nothing he can do about it)
Anasta and Blair have to switch , potter has them doing the wrong jobs Anasta is a ball player and Blair is a runner/ worker. ( not that we saw that last season)
Pray Aaron Woods is fit to play
I actually Don't mind our team this year but I'm not confident enough to say we can make a run at a title

I can see why you'd put blair in 11 isntead of anasta, but blair at lock forces him to play the ball as well as giving some leadership to the left flank, that way you have koro and braith together there. And, I dunno if Blair is a 'runner/worker' he didn't knock up massive metres in 2011 with storm from memory.

Utai is a player that gives it his all but in my opinion he is too short and slow to play wing in the NRL in 2013\. His lack of height was badly exposed by some sides last year especially the Roosters and the Storm. The Foudation Cup again ahowed that teams will target him this year. We have some quick wingers coming throigh and in my opinion it is time to give one of them the spot in the NRL side.

I don't know if you could carry Utai on the bench so I would drop him to NSW cup.

Gee we have problems, some people dont want Lawrence or Ayshford in the Team, some dont want Utai & Moltzen in the Team & some dont want Miller in the Team. Whoever Potter picks i hope they go well because with the amount of injuries we have we could be struggling to field a team, & we just cant fill the team with new players who havent played first grade before.

I want Moltzen and Utai in the team. Utai is a senior respected member of the team, who leads by example. He revs the team up before and during the game, especially behind the posts when huddled. Sure he has deficiencies - like every player. The opposition would not be doing their job if they targeted player strengths, that would be (idiotic )planning to lose the game. Therefore, the question is, what strategies would you employ to strengthen this\his weaknesses?
When the stump runs the ball back, just watch the expression on the faces of players and supporters from both camps. His runs are worth the price of admission alone. Go Moltz, Utai and Weststigers!

As exciting as it sounds, I don't think we could have the back three of Tedesco, Koro and Nofo that some are wishing for. It's just too much inexeperience all at the same time. I think we could get away with the two young wingers with Moltzen at the back (who is by all reports a good talker) and the experience of Lawrence and Ayshford on their inside shoulder.

Utai may be able to come off the bench but I would struggle to get him there either, as I'd like to see an all-forward bench regularly.
