Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I think Newcastle are going to be the team this year who shows fight and overachieves. They really took it to Penrith, and even down to 12 for the majority of the game, they managed to get back with 6 with about 10 to go.
They have started the season positively. It's a long season though, interesting to see how they handle the long haul, I reckon they'll be lucky to make the 8.

Penrith were missing the alien-looking bloke. They're a 10-12 point better side with that germ in the team.

Totally agree with you regarding Newcastle.they have a team willing to play for each other and believe in their coaching staff. They will put in 100% weather they are leading by 4 or down by 10. Maybe it’s to do with the 1 Town Team as they have a great following and their ground is hands down better than ours?.

Early days. They're playing well but let's see how some of their guys like Clune and Randall handle playing NRL week in week out.

Was crazy when people considered them as wooden spooners. Too many good players there for that

Has the Pom got any info on the Brooks situation? Where there is smoke there is fire.

What about Pele or Nikora?

I think this a long shot but is the offer to Nanai being considered?

Do we have any talent coming through? We used to have heaps now it seems like we have nothing in the lower grades...
We've got more talent than we've had for years.

We still have lost years Flegg roster who were undefeated. Plus the likes of Tupou, Kautoga, Guyan, Matamua, Tofaeno, Hill.

Next year the likes of Fa'agatu joins (one of most wanted schoolboys in Qld), Feledy (scoring 3 tries a game for Manly juniors) and no doubt some others unreported thus far.

And a heap of excellent talent in Wests U16 side. They're still a few years away but a very strong side.

Our culture is single-handedly both the least successful and most toxic within all NRL over a 20 year period. There is absolutely no arguing with it and I’d posit you must be one of the most boring and unintelligent people to watch and talk footy with, ever…

Sorry everyone if that became a bit of boring rant, like every one of @Tiger Tragic 's posts.

Purely petty arguments for the sake of it?

On the Doueihi debate from a few pages back, I think people forget how important he is to the team. The big problem obviously being his durability
Last year we were 8 wins 12 losses when he played - 0 wins 4 losses when he didn't play
So basically we are 0-7 when he hasn't played since the start of 2021

Part of an Nanai article stated the following (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/n...-leaving-Cowboys-despite-rivals-circling.html) :

"Wests Tigers are reportedly chasing the Cowboys star, especially after losing second-rower Luciano Leilua to North Queensland in 2023.

Fox Sports has reported that the Tigers have offered Nanai a deal worth $600,000.

Nanai made his NRL debut against the Tigers in 2021 and made a big impression with a try and several charging runs."

That's a considerable offer (if true) given he has played a handful of NRL games, but he obviously has a lot of upside from what he has already shown.

It had previously been mentioned that we were looking at 650k over two years, which absolutely would not get the job done. 600k per season however could get him down here.

That offer was $600K over 2 seasons he is worth more than that.

They've had a good talent-stacked roster for a fair few years now. Cheating the salary cap certainly hasn't hurt them at all, they even snagged a premiership throughout that time. Their roster is so superior to ours and has been for the best part of a decade.
Having said that, their players always play with a lot more commitment and pride than what our pretenders do.
Just on talking about talented rosters and culture.....when we got Harry Grant on loan,he was considered the 3rd string hooker in Melb....he was a revelation for us and a quality player that was first choice hooker for us during his stay....
Can any of us say, that at the moment and this is only an example, that our third string hooker (if we have one) could step up and do the job in any team not just ours....
So in summation,it is up to recruitment and developing the juniors that are talented,to make sure our depth and particular our top squad has the quality to be able to make it in the NRL arena whenever they are needed....at this point in time if one of our top 17 get ousted due to injury or suspension,in most cases we come on here and say,who is going to replace him,our depth is weak...
Im not bagging anyone but this is whats required if we want to make the finals on a regular basis, not once in a decade or so...

Go higher

Harry was an outlier though. No other club would have third stringer as good, including the Roosters, Souths, Parra etc. Same with Paps - he was a third stringer at the Storm, who got a go due to injuries and didn't look back.
