Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The common quote is that culture is what you do when nobody is looking. Colloquially culture to me has been the values and beliefs held by the collective. The standards that are set without a whiteboard, its a simple as making sure you get to the line during a fitness session or as complex as the level of belonging a team member feels under times of personal distress. But the evidence of culture is in the expectations the group has of themselves. Ours has been awful for years Nofa cracking the shits for being held accountable for rocking up to training hungover, players lamenting training intensity at sponsor events earlier this year, Moses Suli thinking its appropriate to sleep in his car during sessions, even Roberts and Laurie not understanding the optics of visiting licensed venues before a game (these are just obvious things off the top of my head).

Culture is everything you do, are you engaged in the directive of the community you belong to? Do you hold yourself to higher standards or to the bare minimum? Do you display alignment to the process your community is undertaking? Do you feel valued by your community? Do you care about how your community views you as a collective or only in terms of you as an individual?

Its been a long time since I've felt that the office, football team, fans and community was willing to do the extras required to be successful at the higher level. For me the values and beliefs I see is selfish and self serving, when Joel Caine came out and said two players had complained publicly about how hard training was, my first thought was Brooks and Noffa. My guess could be way off but my perception was of two people that had existed in a culture of self interest and minimal accountability for a long time. Our culture will improve when people are doing things for more than opportunity and a dollar.
You have focussed primarily on the playing group. I feel the root of the problem is higher up than that. The sponsors we attract aren’t big name companies that high flying clubs get, when something goes against us, our powerbrokers aren’t seen on the front foot making loud noise, the CEO has a whinge when fans expect the ground to be set up professionally, the club goes out and signs James Roberts, when 4 clubs had moved off him mainly for attitude issues, add Joey Leilua as another example. We choose to do a documentary in the middle of an important season for our head coach. We are the pioneers because it’s a distraction no club needs. We let good players walk out on team friendly contracts. You hear stories of players paying for their own hotel rooms and recovery products. These are organisational issues that can all be grouped in the category of, “less than the best”. The standards of the organisation unfortunately make their way out onto the playing surface.

I know he's playing behind a fantastic pack, but I've thought Sean O'Sullivan has been good to start the year at Penrith. Perhaps could be an option next year after developing some cohesion with Api this year
I think he’s the best available if we set Brooks free. Will keep an eye on their combo if they play more footy together.
