Leichhardt Oval to receive an upgrade?

If true, this is great news. $60M could build a new modern stand in the north and rebuild the amenities completely. Doubles capacity and brings it into the 21st century. Also, you keep the hill and maybe even spruce up the Latchem Robinson stand and the Keith Barnes stand whilst maintaining heritage listing. Very doable!

Thatc would be pretty good. I'd forget campbo if it's getting nothing.

If the WTs build a COE at Campbelltown, it almost embarrasses the NSW Govt to invest in the ground for the people of Campbelltown/Macarthur.

Love the idea of giving LO a upgrade. Let’s face it, NRL are not the only sport that regularly use it.

In saying the above Cambo is our real future and the area deserves a state of the art ground. So I say Cambo should be the priority, but pork barreling will stop that

V'Landys is the one pushing LO what are you talking about pork barrelling...
Campbletown never worked for Magpies and will not work for wests tigers.
The COE was built at Concord not Cambo

hahaha... they aren't "my mob" mate. It's scary when people are so rusted on that they keep a side no matter what they do. Politics isn't the Tigers mate!!

The federal liberals at the moment are a bunch of muppets - I honestly hope Albo gets in, but he's not a great option either.

I was just pointing out Darcy. He's a seriously bad mudslinger and I know it's most likely caused issues as to why nothing has happened in Rozelle / Leichhardt. I used to live there. Maybe if he was a bit less partisan, there might have been more done over the years.... and that NSW labor govt was seriously corrupt.

Either way, great news about Leichhardt. I hope it keeps standing the test of time. It's a cracking venue.

The COE was built at Concord because that’s where they could get funding partners.
Long term the South West of Sydney has to be our priority

State government reportedly makes call on Leichhardt Oval upgrade

Leichhardt Oval, the spiritual home of the Wests Tigers, is reportedly set to be upgraded by the New South Wales State government.

The ground - which is one of the Tigers' multiple home grounds, but is the spiritual home of the Balmain Tigers - has been long left neglected by the state government.

While dollars have been poured into the Sydney Football Stadium, which is in the final stages of a complete knockdown, rebuild job, the Parramatta Eels have (alongside the Western Sydney Wanderers and city of Parramatta) been granted a new stadium, while the Panthers are about to have a new stadium as well.

Other stadiums have also been speculated to receive upgrade dollars, with Leichhardt being a heavy part of that discussion in an attempt to keep the famous old ground - often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world - in working order.

Now Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne has suggested on Twitter that the council, and venue, are on the verge of victory to receive the funding needed.

No official announcement has yet been made by the NSW state government at this stage, however, the news will come as a much needed shot in the arm for the Tigers, who could hope to play more games at Leichhardt per year on the back of an upgrade.

The club have split their time between multiple grounds over the past couple of years, with this year's fixture seeing four games at CommBank Stadium in Parramatta, three at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, three at Leichhardt Oval, and one at Tamworth and another in Brisbane for Magic Round.

Only six games being played at the club's spiritual venues has been a bugbear of fans, who wanted to see more football played at Leichhardt and Campbelltown.

It's unclear if the upgrade would alter the agreement immediately, however, it has been suggested previously the club could have as many as five of their 12 games at each of the venues.

I'm sorry for my ignorance because I haven't kept up to date with this, but is this the same article that has been bandied around for months? It's a recent article but seen to be old or rehashed?
